Game Day 9 – The Stupor Bowl ! ! !

You thought the Bay of Pigs was bad?!? Well, just wait for the Stupor Bowl! The 1-7 49ers battle the 1-6 soon-to-be-the-I-210 Raiders in Stupor Bowl II! Last week was pretty stupor-inducing as the 49ers yet again found a great way to lose. Give up 15 points in the 4th quarter to the worst offense in the league, and then hike the ball over the Beater’s head to seal the deal.

This Thursday Night extravaganza should be a frightful event as the 1-9 Beathard takes on the suddenly free-falling Raiders. Wh of course are in the process of dismantling a decent team at the cost of stoking Jon Gruden’s ego, I suppose. Gone was their best player, Khalil Mack, and more recently Amari Cooper, their best offensive weapon, for 1st round picks. So they have at least something to look forward to.

We on the other hand are down to (apparently) our 3rd string QB in Nick Mullens. He of the 0 experience and 0 passes in a meaningful game.  Should be a punt fest. Although the Raiders did put up points against Indy. We on the other hand, play like we are just learning the game and don’t quite get the nuances of how to pressure, how to defend,  and how to tackle.

Bet the under.

15-13 Niners.

A little surprised there wasn’t a Carr trade. Gruden is not a Carr guy and he has 3 first round picks next year, I’d imagine a trade this offseason for something like a 2nd round pick.

  2. rtfirefly says:

I expect CJ will start even if he has to throw leftie (now that’d be funny). I haven’t heard anything one way or another.

  3. Winder says:

chuck- I wonder if Gruden will let Mckenzi(sp) have a shot at one of those picks.

  4. rtfirefly says:

Foster, Tartt and Exum are out. Malcolm Smith and Tyvis Powell will start.

    • NJ49er says:

      Foster out too.
      The Draft Bowl.
Neither GM wants this one I’d think.
Gruden lost out on McGlinchey due to a coin toss last year. Now he holds 3 RD1 Picks. He couldn’t care less about winning now.
      Should be a hoot.

    • Winder says:

Don’t think it really matters who’s playing for us or not. By all rights Carr and the Raiders should eat us up but they probably won’t. It should be a humiliating experience for both Niner and Raider fans.

  5. unca_chuck says:

This one may end up a 2-2 tie.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Shout out to the great Willie McCovey, who passed away about an hour ago. Great player and a greater man. RIP.

  7. Winder says:

McCovey was one of my heroes, he owned Don fucking Drysdale and I will never forget the joy he brought to me over the years. If I could pick an all time team Willie Mac would be my 1st baseman RIP.

  8. rtfirefly says:

RIP Stretch – you gave my family great moments for many years.

  9. NJ49er says:

LMAO Chuck. Said the same thing to my Son this AM. 2 Teams trying like hell to get the better Draft position, running out of the back of the End Zone, just to surrender. 😀

  10. unca_chuck says:

Wow, I had forgotten that Larry Czonka played for the Giants.

  11. unca_chuck says:

Flipper Anderson. There’s a name I haven’t heard in ages. He was pretty fucking good.

    • NJ49er says:

My late Brother was a die-hard NYG Fan.
Literally sat on the couch next to him, when Flipper took the ball into the tunnel that day.
      Broke his heart.
Much like Leonard Marshall destroying Joe’s elbow broke mine.
Our history vs Parcells has been a long, ugly nightmare.
I’ve got a healthy respect for him because of it.

      • NJ49er says:

        That said…..
        Go OHHHHH-lone tonight 😀
        Jed deserves it.
Leave the Jimsonweed home tonight if you’re in attendance.
We need the Draft position. 😀
        Fuck Chucky. He’s got 3 1’s already.
        Bastard.

  12. NJ49er says:

    I’m going with the over.
    Raiduhs 27-20

  13. NJ49er says:

Set the DVR for a Football Life on DC on NFLN tomorrow night too.
    RIP 87…

  14. NJ49er says:

So it looks like we waived Savage.
Suiting up the water boy tonight?
Mullins remains the backup or, is CJ going to start?
    Bobby Buchette come on down…

  15. rtfirefly says:

NJ, that “He’s running the WRONG WAY” clip was on gift tape I got a lifetime ago. Lon Simmons did the call. George Mira was the Niners QB on that play, I believe, with Billy Kilmer as the HB. Yes, that Billy Kilmer, who hit his stride as a QB with George Allen’s Redskins. Brodie played, but I don’t know if he was benched or injured.

Jim Marshall went on to set records for most consecutive games started (270) and played (282), in 14 game seasons!

  16. 12th Man says:

Try again. Nick Mullins is starting.

  17. unca_chuck says:

RT, back in the early 60s, they often would rotate George Mira (the runner) and Brodie (the passer) in and out of the same game.

    Yep, darling Nicky it is.

  18. Winder says:

With Mullens starting Gruden is gonna be hard pressed to lose this one. I just hope we can somehow shove the ball down their throats. SeeYa Raiders Vegas is waiting for ya.

  19. DieHardNinerFaithfulSince2011 says:

Gruden’s Oakland Grinders are a full blown powerhouse but they are no match for the dynasty that we are building here in Silicon Valley. We are about to see the reincarnation of Steve Young in Nick Mullens tonight and any of the few fans in Great America Stadium not rooting for the Raiders will scream in ecstasy at our beloved 49ers putting up 80 points on the mighty Raiders D.

  20. Irish Kevin says:

    Niners all the way!

  21. alleykat69 says:

    It’s Mullen’s time!
Great drive 3-3 passing, good running, good start

  22. Winder says:

Gotta be happy for the kid, he can certainly move in the pocket

  23. Irish Kevin says:

I sorry but clock management is still a problem to me, this team is not good enough sit back and try to use up the clock, Kyle needs to score and score often. 2 mins and they are moving like they got all day to score. The Cardinal game a prime example. Playing conservative so you don’t make mistakes, and not to loose is not the way to play.

  24. alleykat69 says:

Must of idolized Bret Farve wears #4 went to his school and broke all his records and got a tweet from the gunslinger wishing him the best!
And now his 2nd touchdown pass!
The Beater take your time getting healthy..

  25. Winder says:

This is the first time in awhile it looks like we are having some fun. That loosens everything up.

  26. Flavor says:

i know the Raiders have basically given up this year but this kid is throwing balls on the money. How is it that Shanny was so wed to Beathard and his toughness? Mullens looks to have some skills and should have been looked at before being forced to look at due to Beat Hard’s injury.

  27. Irish Kevin says:

Don’t go all conservative with the lead

  28. DieHardNinerFaithfulSince2011 says:

We’re winning our Super Bowl tonight! And we have the next Aaron Rodgers at QB! Pay this man! We’ll be broke but we’ll have two STAR quarterbacks with porn star love.

  29. Irish Kevin says:

Saleh job is saved thanks to the Raiders

  30. Irish Kevin says:

Winning will put smiles on everyone’s face

  31. unca_chuck says:

  32. barleyfreak says:

Well, that was fun. Is it just me, or did that feel like a preseason game? Seemed like we were playing against a bunch of scrubs.

I bet BeatHard’s wrist is going to continue to be hurt for a while.

    • NJ49er says:

I thought much the same BF.
Gruden has no desire to win. He’s all about deconstruction and Draft position IMO.
Players in his Secondary going through the motions. Flat out tanking while avoiding contact.
Happy for Mullens though. He likely took the reigns from CJ unless Shanny has some reason other than improving production.

  33. Berger says:

I hear many say what the most important factor for rating a QB is and there are no wrong answers, just opinions. I look for the ‘IT’ factor first. Accuracy is next. Processing info is way up there but you can’t usually know that until you put a QB in a regular season game.
It is only one game but Nick Mullens checked all the boxes today. If Coach Shanahan starts Beathard in the next game there will be many unhappy 49er fans. Beathard lacks the all important ‘IT’ factor in my opinion. Part of that is he doesn’t process info nearly as fast as Mullens. I’d like to see more to verify what I saw from Mullens is real.

    • Winder says:

I agree, his quick release and knowing where to throw the ball was refreshing. Something we haven’t seen for awhile. I am still a CJ fan but it looks like he’s gonna take more time to get it.

    • NJ49er says:

      Agree Berger.
The throw into traffic to Kittle was good enough for me.
Sheer confidence. Play Nick until he shows he can’t handle it.
My guess, CJ lost his job last night, unless Shanny doesn’t allow it.

  34. unca_chuck says:

We threw slants, for God’s sake. And they worked! CJ cannot process info that fast to throw a slant. Mullens may be a bit undersized, but he had no balls batted down at the line like CJ does 4x a game.

Again, we were playing a team that has bailed on their head coach and is going through the motions, but the team seemed fast and loose.

And we get another creampuff next weekend.

    • NJ49er says:

My barometer vs NYG is whether we can take away OBJ.
Eli is equally sackable due to an inferior OL too.
Nick may have stolen CJs job now.

  35. rtfirefly says:

We had more sacks last night than the 2018 Raiders.

  36. unca_chuck says:

New thread is up. 7 sacks?!? And the Raiders spent a ton on that O line.
