Here we go with the 2017 season. A new regime, a team that has very few holdovers from the last season, a new coaching staff, and a surprisingly quiet front office. A front office I sure hope has learned their lesson in how to run a team and stay in the background and let the coaches coach and the players play while they shut the fuck up and write the checks.
Anyhow, our 6 game opening day win streak is on the line against the Carolina Panthers. A team Colin Kaepernick beat in their house in the distant past of of the 2013 season. 23-10 on our way to a disappointing loss to Seattle. Eons ago. Cam Newton after that loss, fell out of the playoffs before their 15-1 season and subsequent Super Bowl L loss. Last year of course they cratered again and Newton seems to be at a crossroads yet again in his career. Their defense went south, even with Luke Kuechly. Without him, they got worse.
Now? Shit, I don’t know. I’m fairly optimistic and I’m thinking we keep the streak alive. And I think we go 9-7. Expectations are small and I think if we stay relatively healthy, we could make a playoff run.
27-17 Niners.
6-10 for me Chuck.
I’ll be happy to see us LOOK competitive at this point.
Happier yet, not to see, or HEAR, a thing about Jed, or Paraag.
Let Shanny and Lynch do what they’re being paid to do.
Play football. Manage football matters and, do it without expectations.
I would love to see 1 win against Seattle, if that’s not too much to ask?
9 wins? Wow, I’d like to know the route you took to get to that number. But I am definitely excited to watch the game today and excitement can go a long way. Apparently it goes all the way to 9 wins. 🙂 ! I was gonna say 3 wins but I’m drinking the koolaide this morn so I’ll take a flyer on 4 wins. Let’s go!
I think the Niners win this one too. No clue on the score though. But here it is anyway. 23-20
THe NFL is all about parity. The diff between wins and losses is thin. And yeah, I’m unreasonably optimistic. Why not?
The first game of the year is always full of hope and optimism. I honestly thought the Giants had a chance to win the division this spring. Nothing wrong with the 9-7 pick but that is gonna be real difficult with a total rebuild going.
Just to add to that. I have 86 FF teams and the 49ers defense is starting on all of them. That is all about hope and being a fan. All I got to say is they better play good. I got way to much time on my hands. Lol
I think Kittle is gonna play today even though he’s on the injured list. Really looking to see what this kid can offer. He and Taylor just might be the best picks we made not named Foster.
I agree, Winder. I’m looking forward to both those guys playing.
A lot of rooks on this squad……..a journeyman QB and not much of a running game …… winning this first game will be a challenge. The coaches have to be better this season. So there is hope. Go team!
so far out of the 8 teams playing this morning the visiting team scored first. The only exception is the jets game and there is no score. Kinda hard to believe that one.
I’m going with 7-9 and hoping for more. This team may be more susceptible to injuries than most, due to their lack of depth. Today will be a good test against a good team. The D will be challenged to stop all the weapons the Panthers have. Christian McCaffrey’s first game.
GO NINERS!
You’d think McCaffrey’s the 2nd coming of Jim Thorpe.
Yeah, we are thin. My hope is that the back end of the schedule is fairly weak and we can make some hay then.
He’s a pretty exciting talent. Watching him at the Combine was impressive, as if his Pac 12 career wasn’t enough. We’ll see how he holds up. I’m more concerned with Greg Olsen than anyone else [and Newton]. We’re going to need a pass rush. The Panthers figure to bounce back after a mediocre 2016.
Go 9ers
Go Lions
Go Pack
Go Indy
Raiders defeat the Titans, and rather handily. Rumors of the demise of their defense was premature evidently. They looked good and gave Mariota all kinds of problems. Lions with a chance to knock off the Cardinals.
Of all the great athletes in all the sports in the world, I’ve always felt like NFL wideouts are among the best out there. The body control, speed, hands and leaping ability is amazing. Kenny Golladay just made a spectacular diving catch for a TD to pad the Lions’ lead. 28-17 Lions with 4:13 to go.
Pick 6! Bye, bye Cardinals!
Palmer looking like Palmer. 3 picks. AZ down big.
Supposedly, the NFL is easing up on penalizing endzone celebrations this year, which they should. Stupid penalties and anything they can do to reduce the number of flags is OK by me.
Scott Tolzein flails a duck for a Ram pick 6.
Scott Tolzien. lol
Panthers are all over the place. Hard to gauge what they do this year. Even with Kuekly their defense was mediocre last year.
So Tolzien bounces back and looks like the second coming of Johnny Unitas.
Well, nice start by the D. Set the edge and didn’t let Cam run.
