Game 3 Loometh-eth-eth . . .

Here we are at the penultimate game of the preseason. Usually reserved for the starters making one last effort at looking like they are ready for the regular season to get rolling. As of now, and even with the impending departure of Ahmad Brooks, the defense looks like it is in decent shape. No we aren’t nearly as deep as we once were, but with Bowman back, Dockett ready to go, and a up-and-coming set of young linebackers, I think the D can play close to the level of last year. A feat in itself when you look at the injuries suffered by last year’s squad. Dontae Johnson has done well at CB, and rookie safety Tartt has done well. The hitting is there. The coverage remains to be tested in a strident manner.

The offense? Well, that’s a different kettle of fish. Near as I can guess, and I’m guessing I’m seeing what think I see, the zone blocking scheme we’ve been using has opened some big holes for Hyde, Davis, and even Hayne. Pass pro? Well. That’s where the kettle is. The protection has been spotty at best as the coaching staff moves the various pieces around. The WRs haven’t really gotten too involved as a result, and the 1st team offense has had a grand total of 3 drives, so it is time to let fly.

Cutdown to 75 in four days. Any candidates?

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Lets see what happens tomorrow. Pears could very well hit the skids. I doubt it, but he’s not doing very well.

Tell ya though, if they put Jarryd Hayne on the PS I’ll be pissed. Craig Dahl? Bye bye.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I haven’t paid much attention to the roster. I suspect it’s the guys playing now in the 4th qtr who are on the bubble. They’ve got too much invested in Pears and the line is thin enough as it is.

  3. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I heard Eric Davis is saying Harbaugh was the reason we had so many player legal problems. I’m just catching wind of this but I haven’t seen any details. Anybody know what is going on?

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Somehow not ragging on players for leaving dirty laundry on the floor of the locker room and leaving cafeteria trays for others to pick up equates to condoning rape. Eric Davis is full of horse manure. If Harbs did enforce that etiquette (which I would approve, BTW) Eric would be all over his case for being a disciplinarian.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Do you know the details of what is going on?

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Yeah, that was what Eric Davis said. Harbs “let” players leave dirty laundry on the locker room and leave cafeteria trays for others to pick up. Ergo, he condones rape.

  4. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

    *locker room floor

  5. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Dirty laundry on the floor is now a gateway to rape. You heard it from Eric Davis first. Wonder what he thinks of MJ use? Does it start with not washing your hands after #1?

  6. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Not sure how dirty laundry makes for rape. I know it makes for a good song.

  7. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I don’t know if the Niners have a counselor on the payroll. Harry Edwards was a professor at Cal. He was black and related well with the young thugs who often came into the league. The Walsh years were relatively incident free because of the winning culture, with vocal leaders like Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice, and because of the hard behind the scenes work of Harry Edwards.

  8. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I just read what Eric Davis said. He said the laundry and cafeteria trays were metaphors for how they were being coddled off the field. IOW, it didn’t lead to rape, he was saying their lack of discipline and respect for facility workers is how they treated others in the community. I find it an interesting comment from a player who played on a championship team and has experience in that situation.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Oh, I fully understood the metaphor, Reno. It’s horsepucky. Abandoned cafeteria trays are not rape, and neither is assholish behavior, of which there is plenty in the NFL.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

He did not say it was or led to rape. To read between the lines and assert that shows bias. What I read from that is he thinks there was a general lack of control by the coach. The fact that Kawakami says Harby wanted a written code of conduct means nothing. I would think the 49ers already have a written code of conduct. Any company that size always does and I know it is written into their contracts.

  9. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Really tired of a suckage offense since Harbaugh came along. Get this squad in gear to get yardage and get productive in the red zone….

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

It certainly fits in with the entitlement aspect of the shit Harbaugh slings. Since all things lead to Walsh around here, he wouldn’t condone that type of behavior. As evidenced by his take as a bellhop for Super Bowl XVI.

Snarkk, the offense has been shit since Mariucci left. All I want to see is actual situational football. Taking what the defense gives you. Exploiting matchups. Not our head coaches telling the world we’re running Gore. We’re telling Kappy not to run. We’re going to model him after Peyton Manning.

    Duh.

Sir Spit is flying two white flags in case one gets shot down the other can carry on at Geneoushire. Sir Spit is always prepared.

  11. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The dumb ass North Korean, Bullit (sic), just keeps showing how stupid he is every time he writes. Now he is showing some numbers to try and prove that Harbaugh is as good or better at offense than Bill Walsh. One of the funniest posts I have ever seen. The North Korean court jester loves to be laughed at.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

He can make that argument with a straight face? A universally renowned O innovater and master tactician was somehow equaled or surpassed by Harbaugh/Roman’s stone age and ineffective O? The best one can say about their O was it was productive from the run game perspective until it faced a stiff D, then there were no answers.

That my friend is a joke of the highest order.

  12. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The North Korean court jester, Bullit (sic), is also holding Jed accountable! LMAOROTF. Jed must be quaking in his shoes!

  13. Berger's avatar Berger says:

One of the main things to look for today is, IMO, can Lemoneir shed blocks. He hasn’t been able to so far. If Brooks is cut he’ll need to get better at that ASAP. He’s been getting some push forward, which is a huge improvement over last year, but he needs to be able to make the play when he is next to it. I’ve been very down on Lemoneir, I would love to have positive things to say.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

As it stands right now and from the limited reps we have seen I would start Harold over Lemonier. Hope they split the role depending on down and distance.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

IMO, I would move Tank to the position. He did it often in college. I even saw him drop into coverage. I can’t imagine anybody setting the edge better than him. With how well Armstead is progressing we can move him up a spot at DE.

I have to see more to know if I agree with putting Harold over Lemoneir. I am leaning that way. Lemoneir is starting to get a decent push but he’ll never be as quick as Harold. Like I was saying before the Brooks situation, we might need to consider a 4-3 but I would stay in 3-4 and move Tank to Elephant.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

I suppose they could mix and match depending on the opposition and game factors. Facing a heavy run game Tank could probably hold the edge better than the other 2 but as in all these things, a strength in one area is a weakness in another. Mangini has a lot on his plate.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Yeah, I should call him give him some advice! LOL!

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Give him Bullit’s number, he has stats for Mangini that prove Harbaugh is an O genius on par with Walsh, that would be invaluable.

  14. Winder's avatar Winder says:

At least bullit is still a 49ers fan. I get the impression that he’s obsessed with being right, there are lots of people like that. Anyway, I think you guys are on the right track with making sure we put our best D out there. It is probably going to take some time for our offense to start clicking, we just have to much inexperience on our OL to expect to much to soon. Todays should give us a glimps of what we will see.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Bullit has OCD for being “right”, which in point of fact is still only his opinion he would like everyone else to accept as fact. He doesn’t see the distinction.

Looking forward to todays game Winder. I know they will not reveal much of the O scheme but I hope to see it look organized. A few drives would be good to boost fans confidence and get Skeebs and his merry band of dimwits to step back off the ledge.

      How bout that Roman offense?

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

This was truly a garbage backups game. But the Bills took it to them early but only had a 13-8 lead with the real players (how do you like those scores? get used to them with 2 pts and failed 2 pts).

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

        13-11 I mean.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I won’t read anything into it in preseason but if the Bills offense does great in the regular season I can surmise that it was Harbaugh who was the problem. Go Bills! Rooting for the Bills has nothing to do with Harbaugh, I’ve like the Bills for a while now.

  19. rob's avatar rob says:

Okay guys the game is tonight . This is a big test. I hope our O-line can hold up and we can generate some pass rush. Barrows made a good point. He suggested the newly bulked up Lemonier starting with Harold in on passing downs.

Jesus. Blocking is flat terrible. Pears is a revolving door.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

  40. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

They aren’t even blitzing and we can’t block 4.

  41. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

2nd down and 4 I’d like to see a pass off play action.

  42. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Wow, can’t lose Johnson now.

  43. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Well, thank God this is preseason. If they can’t figure out how to pass block this’ll be a long season.

  44. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

I turned it off with 2 min to go in first half. That was nearly unwatchable, at least the offense.

  45. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, this is a problem. The D can’t get enough props. They’ve played the entire half.

  46. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Good to see Dontae Johnson back in.

All this and we are only down 1 score.

  50. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wouldn’t it be funny to see us score before the half and tie it?

  51. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Peyton took a real shot on that one. Who’s 29?

  52. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Oops – the dreaded DELAY OF GAME

  59. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Torrey blew that. Boldin didn’t help. WTF? Blocking is verboten? There’s your new NFL.

  60. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

For all this bullshit, they had a chance to score a TD and tie the game.

  61. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

8-3 in Denver is a moral victory, if saved only by Peyton being off target. The second half will be garbage time.

  62. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yup. Blocking is a BIG worry at this point.

  63. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I can’t believe how bad Eli Harold is at open field tackling.

  64. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I would say something bad about our O-line but that would be a good thing for them. They suck.

  65. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Bush put offense in a bad spot when he did not catch that punt. I he wasn’t already, that punt play just put Hayne n the 53.

  66. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Carlos Hyde looks good, so does Bowman, Johnson and Acker. Lots of guys look good on defense. OLBs, not so much.

  67. Berger's avatar Berger says:

    Jerod-Eddy having a tough game.

  68. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Preseason games should be played under darkness without lights. Just use infrared lights on the helmets and go at it. People have to pay for this type of game? Ouch!

  69. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Armstead was said to get pushed back on a double team, looked more like a triple team.

  70. Berger's avatar Berger says:

A very nice play by Marcus Rush.

  71. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Our defense looks all around except OLB.

  72. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Tomsula looked a bit steamed when we got the delay of game.

  73. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The fact Hayne isn’t playing in the first half tells me he has made the 53. They are looking at other to compare. So far, no comparison. He’ll probably get some action in the 2nd half.

  74. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Acosta might beat out Dawson. Not for salary cap but because if they are about the same Acosta is young and this is probably Dawson’s last year with us.

    • Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Yeah may as well go young. I have feeling this going to be a transition year at best.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

it most certainly is a transition year. We lost too many bodies for it to be anything else. However we have enough good players that it isn’t a rebuild…yet. And, we can still be very competitive and win some games. The ol needs to be fixed.

  75. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Figures NoFear would act like he won the lottery when the Niners got a delay of game. What a pussy. Game 3 and we haven’t wasted any timeouts and he acts like Kappy played like Manning. What a pussy, I can’t say enough what a fucking weasel he is.

He thought he was a man but he was a muffin (this is epic btw).

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I don’t even have to look, when we got a delay of game I figured the cancer blog was popping party poppers. I doubt they noticed we didn’t waste a time outs stopping a delay of game penalty. You know that won’t be mentioned. Those people are just fucking stupid.

  78. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

2nd string base D doesn’t mean that much to move on.

All I can think is we aren’t using these drag plays with Celek and Kappy so we don’t show it?

But these would suit the line problems as well as take advantage of what Kappy can do.

  79. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

When Adrian Belew was playing with Zappa, it was incredible. All the stuff I’ve seen and heard is off the charts, Saw ’em both but never together.

  80. Berger's avatar Berger says:

The biggest good news was our defense kept Manning out of the end zone. Manning torched Harbaugh last year like we had only 8 on the field.

      • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Okay, missed that. Let me know if anybody over at Skeebs points out that he held onto the ball too long and hung his receiver out to get killed, or that he overthrew the open receiver for the TD with plenty of time to throw on the next pass..

  85. Berger's avatar Berger says:

Armstead didn’t look as good today. He sure gets double teamed a lot. He doesn’t lose one on ones.

  87. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I can’t say I’m not worried about the offensive line but one thing that is true is the coaches are looking for players combos right now more than locking in on who starts. The run blocking looks good. The pass pro looks like Swiss cheese. Let’s hope we get a lot of man coverage so Kap can run!

When we ran the power I in the first game we had time to throw. I wonder if there is any connection? I hope they figure it out.

NJ- Your boy Harold can’t make an open field tackle. One juke and he is toast. I’ve seen it on his college video and all three games this preseason. Would you please tell him to bend his knees, sink his butt and quit being in such an hurry. If he would learn to be a one man triangulation he is so quick I don’t think anybody could get around him. Have him watch some Patrick Willis video!

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

      Eli will learn Berger.
Had him on my Draft List for a reason.
He’s got potential. If he’s coachable, he’ll come around.
Great motor and, he comes to play.

Tarver Coached Patrick as a pup too.
Can’t expect too much from these guys out of the gate.
The Pro game moves too fast for the majority of Rookies.

Moody is still learning to tackle too, which didn’t look too good last time I saw him.
We’re young, these things are expected.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Most of the plays I saw Harold make in College came as a pass rusher.
If he’s going to transition to OLB, he’s gonna be forced to learn what open field tackling is about soon enough.

      • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Moody can sit the bench. I’m not worried about him. We need a playmaking OLB. I’m thinking Marcus Rush is a better option than Harold if he can’t put some smarts in his tackling. I’m reluctantly having to root for Lemoneir.

I had a sense we showcased Lemoneir today for a trade. He played ahead of Lynch. I can’t imagine anybody taking the bait. When Aldon went down it looked bleak. If Brooks goes down we’re fucked. If we open with Lemoneir and Harold the cancer blog is going to be happy with our big hole on defense.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Lemonier bulked up a bit since last year.
He too was more of a pass rusher in College.
Big transition learning to play OLB as a Pro.
        All about ‘wanting it’.
I give the edge to Eli on that point but, he’s a pup right now.

Dontae Johnson got beat like a drum last night, repeatedly. If that’s the level of play we can expect from that dude this year, opposing QB’s are going to have a field day.

Navorro was a whirling dervish! Wow. And his speed looks phenomenal. If he can stay healthy, he’s going to have a big year. Really pleased to see him back to his old self.

You guys have already talked about this, but the OL line was horrible. Pears doesn’t look like he even belongs in the league. Kap barely had time to set his feet on a lot of those plays, and no QB in the NFL will have success under that kind of duress. Let’s hope this one game is an abberation, because there’s no way he’s going to survive otherwise.

Tartt got a serious lick on Manning at the end of the first half. Finally hit that bitch before he could puss out. Folded that fucker up like a 49¢ taco.

First of all I must say if any of you need to watch the season to figure out what’s going to happen you obviously have no brain. Tomsula is worst than Singletary and him patting Veron on the back after a 15 yard penalty shows he’s not a winner, there’s no fear in the players eyes and we’re doomed for failure thanks to Jed’s true colors coming out. They got the stadium thanks to you fools with no brains and Harbaugh now it’s back to business as usual, get a puppet in there to do what he’s told to do. I must say you got what you deserve when you back anyone who simply wears our colors. Your old self from back in the 1980’s would’ve kicked you ass for backing a QB like Kaepernick now your spineless new self rolls out a red carpet for him. When you lose your standards and dignity and you no longer stand up for what’s right you’re not even human. When you watch our football team who once was the standard of class throughout the league now thanks to Jed we’re worst than the Raiders and you say nothing there’s a real problem with you.
