Game Day X – Road Warriors

These are the times that try men’s souls. Or some shit. The season comes down to these two upcoming road games. The Big Easy and the Big Sleazy. Come out of this with a split, and there’s a possibility that we are still hanging on to that 6th playoff spot. N’Alwins has never been an easy team to play with their firepower and all, and its even more daunting playing them in their dome. Offensively, they are pretty damn good. Their offense is scoring better than anyone not named Denver. Drew Brees is lighting things up per usual, but the new wrinkle is the running game behind 29 year old journeyman Pierre Thomas and young Mark Ingram. NO Dropped a 245 yard rushing performance on the Cowboys last week. They have weathered the Gregg Williams/Sean Payton deal and are now thriving under Rob Ryan’s newly installed 3-4 defense.

The Niners? Well, we’ve (and everyone under the sun) has dissected, detailed, and debated the current failings of this offense. No need to flog the equine any more than previously done.

This is a huge game for the morale of this team and this young QB. A win would right the ship and hopefully propel them into the playoffs as the WC team no one wants to play. Lose this game, and it may start a slide right out of the playoffs.

Yeh it’s a tough place to play Chuck but….They don’t have the Defense that we have and, we don’t have the Offense they have.

I’ve never been scared of a Rob Ryan Defense either.
Agree that this game is big for us in the standings.
We’ve basically kissed the Division title good bye, unless something monumental occurs.

I’ll be fine with getting in as a WCard.
I’m also hoping in a strange sort of way that Carolina wins the NFC South.

Too early to predict but, it’s possible, if we can steal the win today and, Carolina can sweep them in their upcoming matchups.

For now, we just have to get our house in order and make the Playoffs.
It’ll mean playing on the road but, playing is all that matters.
    Ain’t over yet.

  2. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Best way to win this game is takeaways. Take care of the ball and the penalties while forcing and taking advantage of their mistakes. Provided our takeaways result in TDs and the defense keeps their points down around 24. Best formula for any road game but critical here I’d say.

I don’t care if the Saints put up over a hundred yards on the ground as long as it’s not in big chunks or 3rd down conversions. I don’t know how healthy Jimmy Graham is but I don’t think we can cover him without help if he’s healthy. That’s how they get you in five and six back defenses and run on you.

How can you cover three wides and a Jimmy Graham TE and Thomas out of the backfield with two safeties deep? Puts a lot on the backers especially if they’re keying on the backfield. Change a d-lineman for a nickelback and a linebacker for a dimeback? Makes getting pressure and playing the run tough. Need to beat them at the LOS, and all day long.

This is the sort of game that proves the worth of the effort they make all year. Contenders or pretenders?

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

      Hey NoFear49er-
Our ILBs are probably the best in the League.
We’ll need pressure on Brees to force him into the shorter routes for sure.

Lemonier and Skuta should be helpful too.
Not sure what to expect from Wright if he gets the playing time.

We could be catching them at a good time, getting Malcom Jenkins in place of Vacarro.
We’ll see which 9er Team shows up.
Our D has been solid. No reason to lose a game when you hold an opponent to 10 pts.
This one is on the Offense to control TOP and get into the endzone.

Takeaways for points would be outstanding as well.
Have to get something going in the short passing game too.
Ryan is a blitz happy sort. Just don’t think they’ve got the LB speed to stop Kendall or LMJ on the short screen game.
Hope Roman finds a way to utilize it.

Need to take some shots deep also.
I think they give up alot without Vacarro.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

        Sproles is a terror too.
Again, I think our ILBs can handle that challenge.

        Pivotal game for us.
        Hope it’s not another letdown.

Sure would be nice to find a passing game.

  3. No Typhoons, hurricanes or arrest warrants this week but its early. Winning this one would go a long way towards cleaning out the bad taste from last week. Typhoon Yolanda missed and so did the officer LOL but those Panters… ugh.

Send Roman back to the WAC 10 or whatever its called. Gravity seems to have pulled us back into the sardine can no thanks to him.

  4. According to Advanced NFL Stats, the Niners have a 4% chance of still winning the west, and a 68% chance of making the playoffs overall. I can’t imagine those numbers improving after we lose today…

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yea, this one comes down to the d line play. We beat them last year by constantly harassing Bree’s and making him real uncomfortable when he went back to pass.

Aldon Smith having a breakout game will be key.

  6. barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

Despite all the hand wringing about our passing game, or lack thereof, I think this game comes down to our running game, keeping Brees on the bench and control of the LOS. Apparently MM is hobbled (already?) and so in the WR dept we’re supposed to see added production from…Baldwin? Osgood? Bueller?

Maybe the new good hands TE Carrier will get a pass thrown his way.

  7. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Yeah I predict a loss but who cares? Even I don’t give a damn about what I think. Of course I’m always ready to be surprised.

  8. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

I’m really trying to get excited by the Jets @ Bills, or Eagles @ Redskins, but fortunately I found the Jack Benny uberclassic “To Be or not To Be” on TCM.

I’ll still be laughing during the game. Hopefully, I can transfer some of that mirth to the Saints.

  9. I may have to amend our opening WC weekend opponent — PHI making a strong push, especially today, in quest for the NFC East. They’ve already lost to DAL, at home no less, so the tie-breaks aren’t in their favor — yet. Final game of the yr — Eagles @ Cowboys.

Who would you rather play? I know which QB and team would have more history and garner more interest and evoke the most hatred…

    How bout dem Cowboys!

  10. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Worthlessberger looks oooh so appropriate in his prison stripe uni.

  11. In his last 20 HG, Drew Brees has thrown 70 TDs. That averages out to a tidy 3.5 TDs/gm.

O/U 3 1/2 TD passes for Brees today? Drew is on my fantasy team(s), so I’ll recuse myself.

  12. WTF didn’t Joe Flacco throw any passes to us in the SB like he just did to that Bears’ DE?
I still don’t know how we lost to Ravens in the SB last year.

HOW THE FUCK DID WE LOSE TO JOE FLACCO AND THE RAVENS IN THE SB?

  13. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

In a few minutes, Jerry’s Toys are going to be in 2nd. The moon and stars are truly aligned today!

  14. JT's avatar JT says:

    Nice fucking start

  15. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

    Could be along worse Jr.
Their winning the field advantage position, while shutting down Brees for now.

  16. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

How do you throw in to triple coverage to Boldin??

  17. JT's avatar JT says:

Kapernick looks like shit. No way they win this game without the D scoring

  18. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Total fucking penalty grabbing Baldwin’s jersey.Fuck these refs on the Saints payroll!!!

  19. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

They should not give up on the passing down the field. Missed holding call!!!

  20. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

That leg buckled like it was made of rubber! Ouch!!!

  21. Chico's avatar Chico says:

Grabbing a jersey in coverage is no longer a flag.

  22. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Now were talking, great punt by Lee.
Field postion huge right now.Pinning Brees at the goaline is big.Fuck lets get a turnover now.

  23. Donte “Hitner” with the whiff on that play. Fuck him and his name.

  24. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

So frustrating watch WR’s that know how to run routes and get open!!

  25. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Atleast were winning the battle of carts on the field.Sproles out would be huge.
Way to fuck up the challenge Jimbo!!!
Get your fucking coaches new binoculars.

  26. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    Another terrible call

  27. JT's avatar JT says:

    Game over

  28. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Okay this is where the HC and the OC had better have a plan, and a better on than they had last week!! They had better starr spreading that field, early and often,

  29. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

So what do we see on the first play two backs and a run!! And then a sorry pass that is not even close to a first down marker. PASS the FU**ING BALL DOWN THE FIELD!!! Roman is an idiot!!!

  30. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Barely passed the first down marker!!

  31. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Getting first downs on a wing and a prayer.

  32. JT's avatar JT says:

What the fuck was that on 3rd down? Mother fucker.

  33. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

WTF DUMBASS CALL WAS THAT ROMAN.!!!

  34. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Holy scheist that rule HAS to be scrapped.

  35. I don’t fucking believe it. We’re going to lose a second challenge.
I want whoever is in charge of that up in the booth, DEAD.

  36. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

OH Fuck I’m sure we will lose this challenge as well and won’t have another one.

  37. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

The OC has no guts to call a big play,

  38. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Terrible decision to challenge when it was obvious that it was incomplete.Someone needs to lose their job upstairs over that one.

  39. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Nice back shoulder throw to Boldin.

  40. JT's avatar JT says:

SF got completely bent over and dry-fucked on that challenge

  41. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Coaches better pull their head out of their asses on the play calling and game managenment or the division is over today.

  42. JT's avatar JT says:

A lucky TD thanks to special teams. This offense is sucking horse dick otherwise

  43. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

So Roman is going to continue to run and run and run. And they can’t even get a play off

  44. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

OH WHAT A FUCKIN CHRISTMAS GIFT IF We GET THE TOUCHBACK.

  45. Seriously. Who is in charge of our replays up in the booth? I need a straight answer.
    thanks.

  46. Chico's avatar Chico says:

    That was bizarre.

  47. We have NO BUSINESS being tied 7-7 at this time.
Seriously. We need to be taught a fucking lesson.

  48. JT's avatar JT says:

Roman has no clue what to do with Kap. Call in Chip Kelley

  49. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

    Wow way to go Dawson!
That baby would of been good from 60.

  50. JT's avatar JT says:

    And the ST fuck up.

  51. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

    Fucking ST play.

  52. JT's avatar JT says:

    Son of a fucking cunt.

  53. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Well were even in Cart use today.
    Hard fought game.

  54. JT's avatar JT says:

    Kap looking stupid

    • DieHardNinerFaithfulSince2011's avatar shaman138 says:

      Where is Peyton Manning?

      • He’ll be on at 5:30 tonight on NBC. You’ll be watching. I’ll be watching. The entire NFL world will be watching. Peyton Manning has returned from his neck injury to continue his future HOF career. Peyton, even at his advanced age and recent injury has been, the best QB and best player — by far — in the NFL since his return. That’s a fact. It’s a shame, though. Because if the Niners would have just listened to my one simple request…

Did we sign Peyton Manning yet? We would have won the SB last year, and be well on our way for a repeat…

        *sigh*

  55. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

    Finally a well designed play.
Kap rolling out plenty of blockers.
Saints bite for a run,And VD slides past the DB for 6.

  56. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Way to step up big Defense.
Smith and Willis come up huge with pressure.

  57. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Nothing better then sticking it to Fat Fuck Rex Ryan uhh Jerry Garcia hippie.
Guy has always bugged me going back to the Raiders, and the Cowpokes as well.Eat Shit Rex!!!!

  58. Back shoulder fade…it’s basically indefensible if executed correctly.
    Kap to Boldin was perfect.

  59. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

OMG Gore just dropped a TD play.
Fucking A that would of sealed it.
And if course we throw a useless no one looking for the ball play, and have to punt.
And now its on the D again.

  60. Chico's avatar Chico says:

    Lets get a hold here. C’mon D.

  61. Chico's avatar Chico says:

What the fuck was wrong with that sack???? Wtf?

  62. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

THAT’S THE MOST FUCKIN BULLSHIT PENALTY I’ve EVER SEEN.FUCK THESE REFS THEY NEED TO ALL BE SHOT ON SIGHT!!!!! FUCKING TERRIBLE FUCKING CALL FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK THIS CREW THEY SUCK DONKEY DICKS!!!

  63. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

This is a huge test for Kaep and the Niner coaching staff, they should win this game in regulation

  64. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    -7 yards??? WTF

  65. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Anyone have any doubt at all what is coming here?

  66. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

NO offense, no composure, no chance.

  67. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    Oh hell, hey stupid!!

  68. 15 ys PF on K. Os”no”good” Fuck him and his mother.

  69. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

So, we just saw how Kaep has no composure in the last 2 mins. And whoever drew up those plays for him is an idiot!!

  70. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Nice work Osgood. This game is over after another stupid penalty.
BS call on Brooks will cost us this game.
Fuck this crew of incompetent refs.

  71. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Key sequence of the game: two ineffective Gore runs, followed by failure on third and long forcing us to take the FG on our last scoring possession rather than trying to get a TD. Total bullshit.

  72. Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

We deserved to lose today. End of story.

And the division race is over. Seattle has an insurmountable lead – for this team.

  73. Did we fire Jim Harbaugh tonight?

  74. Chico's avatar Chico says:

    Fuck the world right now.

  75. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

You are seeing a huge difference in play calling and execution of those plays. Drew B and his WR’s know what they needed to do. It’s going to get ugly if Alex and the Chiefs win.

    • Chico's avatar Chico says:

Fuck Alex. Water under the bridge months ago.

      • Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Say what you want about Alex he is at least passing for over 200 yards a game. How many diff WRs did Bree’s connect with??? We are awful in the passing game if the person is not named VD or Boldin. Even Gore can’t catch passes that are thrown right to him!!

      • Grumpy Guy's avatar Grumpy Guy says:

Alex is doing well, but this team would be struggling today with him, just as with Kap. People would be bitching about how Alex never goes downfield.

FACT IS, THIS OFFENSE DOES NOT SCARE ANYONE; AND ONLY BEATS TEAMS WE *SHOULD* BEAT – under .500 teams.

Kap is not playing well – but most of the problems are coming from the sideline. We cannot even figure out when to throw the challenge flag.

We’re not going to beat ANYONE in January the way we’re going right now.

    • Chico's avatar Chico says:

When I dump a chick, it’s over. Keep on hanging on brother.

  76. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Can’t wait for the latest “Excuses” out of Harbaugh’s mouth after this one.

    • Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Yeah, when is he going to admitt they have no WRs, the back ups need to be gone next year, they are awful!!

  77. DieHardNinerFaithfulSince2011's avatar shaman138 says:

Did we sign Peyton Manning yet?

  78. Alleykat's avatar Alleykat says:

Well atleast Howie Long saw Ahmad Brooks play like all of us except those jackass refs.
    Clearly not helmet to helmet.
He was disappointed on the call, and said so, which would have sealed the victory .

  79. barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

And so another full week of “who’s fault is it” is launched. Roman? Kaep? The WRs? I don’t f*cking know. But what is beyond doubt, is our offense really sucks right now. Pathetic.

  80. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Well, closer than I thought. Defense is playing well, with the occasional hiccup. Offense is the problem. And, I’m not sure why Brad Seely is considered a great special teams guy. You can’t win a playoff game, or even get there, with no passing offense. How many years do we have to say that same thing. This defense gives SF a window to win championships. If it had even a mediocre offense, the team is in the hunt for a SB birth again…

  81. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Damn. The game turns on some random plays. Gore drops the pass with 40 yards of clear sailing. Bowman called for the most asinine penalty in the history of football. Taking a sack on 1st down on the 20, thus killing the last drive. Osgood committing the most stupid penalty in the history of the NFL. Galling to me was seeing the first pass play where Baldwin and VD are running the same route, thus dragging 4 DBs into the picture. These passing plays make no sense. They took away the run, and we had a little success passing. But once again the defense was forced to make all the plays

  82. 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

A horse designed by committee is a camel. The offense is a bits and pieces offense, it’s not cohesive. I think it may be a simple as they don’t have a single vision OC. They have the running plays guy, the wide receivers guy, the QB guy and Harbs all creating the O plays Roman, Chryst, Morton and Harbaugh.

  83. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Every team has position coaches. The problem is the OC. He cannot adjust to different looks. Kappy plays a part in this by not getting through his progressions, but ha can learn and he can also be put in better situations to succeed. Again though, they make enough plays to win this game

    • 12th man's avatar 12th man says:

True every team has position coaches Chuck, but they contribute under an overarching OC and his scheme. By all accounts the Niners operate as a collective.

  84. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Personally, I thought the running game was more terrible. Stop running Gore outside and stop sticking in Hunter or James and handing them the ball for that one play and expecting them to break the game open. An established run game would have helped CK7 today.

We went into the Saints’ stadium and held Drew Brees to a single TD and the team to less than 24 points. “Hitner” controlled Graham very well, too. The thing we didn’t do was finish. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. So simple even Singletary saw it. (Cheap shot. I like Singletary, only not as a head coach)

  85. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Dennis, you act like we had a shot at signing Manning. I wish you would shut the fuck up about it.

It was Manning’s choice. Get it? Manning’s call. Manning. Peyton Manning picked where he went. Not Harbaugh. Not Wizzenhut. Not anyone else in the running. Manning made the call to go to Denver.

What part of this won’t get through your head?

    • Are you fucking dense? Yes we DID have a great chance of signing Peyton Manning. IF, IF, IF Jimbo would have made Manning the Top Dog. Jimbo would not acquiesce to Manning. Bo Schembechler Jr. had to retain his 3 yds. and a cloud of dust mentality.

Jim Harbaugh is a goddamn stubborn fool. HE, Jim Harbaugh, would not relinquish the reigns to Manning. Our loss. The results speak for themselves…

  86. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Its hard to run against 9 in the box. Which is what we faced all day. Their DBs did not honor our WRs all day. As usual. We didn’t throw one deep pass. If you never show it, no one has to defend it. Elementary. Everything is pinched in toward the middle and clogged up.

The Niners one good drive, I counted 4 1st down runs to the right with Gore. They got a total of 4 yards. Play action is a myth. I think I saw one in the 4th quarter.

  87. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Right. I saw at least 15 plays where NO had 9 in the box. And we ran into it.

  88. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

If the Denver refs had been in N’awlins, the Niners would have won. The Saints secondary was pulling lots of crap all game that is being called tonight (on both sides).
No matter. Insert foot, shoot it off. Again. Two weeks in a row.
Watch out for the Giants vis a vis slot #6. They’re playing superior ball right now.

  89. Peyton Manning has been the best player, let alone QB, in the NFL since his return.
Of that, there can be no question.
    Period. End. Of. Sentence.

  90. dirtnrocksnomo's avatar dirtnrocksnomo says:

With the Aints fumbled punt and the Breese touch pass INT, SF was lucky the score was as close as it was allowing them to have a chance at the end. I saw this game as the Aints nearly beating themselves rather than SF stepping up and beating them.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The problem with that was the Niners had a 6 point lead and had forced the fumble on Brees. Shoulda woulda coulda but really, you can’t hit the QB in the head, or below the knees. The chest is off limits now?

Fuck it. Ludicrous call that lost the game. They might as well outlaw sacking the QB.

      • Chico's avatar Chico says:

My feelings exactly.. There was NO *NO FUCKING REASON* to call that textbook sack a penalty. For shame, NFL..

  91. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Got to giver Kappy props for chasing down the DB on the pick and somewhat forcing the fumble out of the end zone.

  92. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Timeout called in the first minute of the game.
Two (two!) clearly failing challenges shortly thereafter.
With the ball under 2 minutes to go in the first half, Kap had no timeouts! Who’da thunk it?
Kap had a poor game, but a fish rots from blunders like this.

  93. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I heard after the game that Mangina called those red flag plays.

Horrible. Yeah, we had a chance to at least kick an FG at the half with a couple TOs.

  94. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Let’s face it the Niners need better backup WRs than what they have, just because your starter goes down does not mean the drop off should be this bad!! And it is clear that we do not have a pass catching back. Other wise they would be using him better. Gore may be a great RB, but he is no Rodger Craig, or emmit Smith for that matter.

  95. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

    ITSET, NFC wildcard round:
    Panthers @ Eagles
    Niners @ Lions

Who would’ve even dreamed of that scenario at season’s start?

  96. Again, I’m taking liberties, but we’re fucked…
    Houston Hello!

We’re going to have our ass handed to us.Right down the middle.
    Any fellow Catholics? Genuflect, hello!

  97. Can we just put the Broncos and Seahawks in the SB and get on with it…

Sorry. The motherfucking truth hurts sometimes. Hurts like like a motherfucker.
