Forty Niners Forever

The Niners have nearly finalized a trade w/ the Iggles for Bryce Huff. The UDFA edge rusher that had a breakout season with the Jets, getting 10 sacks without having started a game. The trade if for a mid-round pick apparently. He signed a 3 year deal with the Eagles last year, but wa sidelined by injury and missed the Super Bowl.

Got to say, at least the 49ers aren’t sitting on their thumbs like their counterparts in baseball.

Yeah, I know, big fricking whoop. Still and all, we creep inexorably closer to the season. Yeah, it ain’t even June yet, but the Giants are pulling their June swoon a week early, and they donpth ave any hitters to speak of, so OTAs it is.

I guess the injury watch starts now as well . . .

For once they decided to put the horse in front of the cart by getting ahead of the game and signing Fred Warner to a 3 year, $63 million extension. $21 mill per, and $56 mill guaranteed.

The reason this is noteworthy is because his deal didn’t come due until spring of 2026.

So for once they got ahead of the game and signed someone important a year early. Yes, he’s the highest paid linebacker, but come next season, his price will likely go up.

Get some O line help and I’ll be more than thrilled, but they have made me pretty happy this offseason.

Here are the deets:

Brock Purdy and the 49ers have agreed to terms on a five-year, $265 million deal today.

Purdy will receive $181 million in total guarantees, including $165 million in the first three years of a deal that runs through the 2030 season.

The $265 total value for the extension would rank Purdy fifth in the NFL, while the $53 million annual average is tied for seventh.

So, he didn’t cry for the moon, but he got his bundle. Got to say, as much shit as I’ve been giving this front office so far this year, they got shit done, and had what looks to be a very solid draft.

Thing is, team strength changes like baby diapers in the NFL. Washington was washed up in 2023 and killed in 2024. Chargers were dogmeat and went 11-6. On and on. So this should be good for us, but WE need to take care of shit.

We happily got Saleh back and shit-canned our ST coach so that’s good news. Shanny’s got to get his shit together. Not ride CMC too hard. Come up with better schemes to close out games. Basically do a better job coaching the offense.

You know. His fucking job.

I’m talking about Stone Blanton, of course. The part-time hit man, one-time private eye, and whiskey maker extraordinaire has signed a three-year deal. No idea what the money is, and I really don’t care. Just like the guy’s name, and he comes in as a hard-hitting UDFA linebacker who may indeed stick with the team.

Work hard, kick ass, and see what happens.

In other news, uh, I got nothin’. Well, Gabe Davis came a’calling. He of course is a deep threat who tore it up for the Bills in the playoffs a few years ago but has had a lot of injuries. He got dumped out of his 3/$39 mill contract by the Jags recently, and is available.

Do it. We need guys who are bona fide deep threats. I don’t care how accurate Purdy is supposedly not on deep passes, but Davis goes up and gets them.

I was gonna hold off on a new post until Brock Purdy got signed, but I’m tired of waiting. There’s all kinds of “we’re close” “everyone’s happy” Purdy will be the highest paid guy” yadda yadda yadda but until it happens it hasn’t.

Still and all it looks like this won’t be a big deal.

So, fuck. I don;t know. Let’s tear the roof of this sucker.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio recently broke down what Brock Purdy’s contract structure might look like. The deal’s overall value would cost $280 million.

Purdy gets a $55.1 million annual average value, behind just Dak Prescott and Josh Allen. The extension will last for five years, per Florio.

“The guaranteed average at signing would be $46.8 million, Which is a far cry from $55.1 million. And, if the final year or two contains higher salaries (let’s go with $60 million in 2029 and 2030), it would really be a four-year, $160.846 million deal. Which equates to an average payout from signing of $40.2 million per year.”

And word is, they are ‘close’ to a deal. Sounds good to me. As speculation goes it’s as good as anything else out there.

So, most of the heavy lifting has been done for this offseason, except for, of course, the everloving starting QB is still not signed. Listening to the wonks, they are close, far, making progress, at loggerheads, ready to trade Brock, and ready to back up the money train.

Brock is in the building, participating in things and doing the non-mandatory stuff. Better than BA’s hold-in last year, but still not signed to his extension. It sounds like they have at least reached the floor of $50 mill per, as would be warranted. But, when guys like Kyler Murray are making $51 mill, then Purdy has to think, hey, I have more playoff wins than almost all the top 10 guys combined, therefore, $55 mill should be my floor.

And really, that is a valid point.

These days a lot of this comes down to guaranteed money, deferred money, and signing bonuses before you get to per-year deal, but such are the vagaries of life in the NFL. They can be parsed 6 ways from Sunday, but guaranteed money seems to be what these guys want. Namely because football is inherently as dangerous as fuck-all. Especially for quarterbacks.

Anyhow, not much else going on until the mandatory workouts begin May 27th. Just sign the guy already

The front office continues to make a little headway in my eyes of not being the blind mice they appear to be. After what looked like a very successful draft weekend, they go ahead and sign George Kittle to a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension that includes $40 million guaranteed, per Ian Rapoport.

And yes, he’s the highest paid TE in the league, by a skosh. 78 catches, and 1,106 yards, and 8 TDs attest to his production. Another great year in a great career. So, all that’s left is to sign our quarterback.

I’m thinking this will be handled fairly shortly. Or some time before May 27th. The first day of the mandatory OTA workouts.
