Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

yikes .. poor Joey Bart can’t catch a break (puns, etc intended). Red Sox’ newly acquired Erik Miller (Big Sweaty II) busted Joey’s left hand in last night’s game. I wasn’t aware that Bart was traded from Atl to the White Sox at the deadline. I’m not sure if Bart ever caught Miller while they were with the Giants .. I think Bart left in 23 (?) and Miller arrived in 24 ?? .. not sure, and kinda too lazy to look it up .. plus, my internet connect is ridiculously slow tonight .. weather here has been nuts. My 10th year in Bisbee, never experienced anything like it: tornado warnings nite before last, 80-100 mph wind gusts last week, off the charts heat & humidity since early July.
Nice update. FO took two shots at replacing Posey with a high pick and missed both. Wasted opportunities, although Bart’s draft class was notoriously weak overall. But man I do feel for Joey. Harrison, Bailey, even Doval may all wither away soon enough but they had and maybe will continue to have some brilliant moments. Poor Joey, apparently not.

RCs game was on last night, and Jonah Cox had 4 hits, RH playing LF. Turner Hill was in CF but don’t recall seeing him hit/stats. Hard to watch this level of play for more than couple innings…

they don’t show much crowd shots but stands were pretty empty. There was a foul ball that bounced off aisle btw rows of seats. On one side were 2 guys, 3 on other. A guy from each side stood up to get carom, and a guy sitting to the right caught ball in his glove as it bounced off the concrete, then tossed to the guy who had also stood up on left side. MCC has story of game 2 days ago that RCs lost 13-10. Last night i think score was more like 5-2.
Cox needs to come up to SF and play. I’d rather see him in the OF than more of McRay. We’ve seen McRay for several years now. He cannot hit worth a xhit. He’s a strike out artist his entire minor league and major league career. All glove, good arm, absolutely nothing on offense.
Since coming up, he’s 1 for 15 with 5Ks. Just send him back down or cut him and move on. The intriguing part of Cox is his incredible speed. Let this kid play at several positions and see where his speed takes him. Don’t waste these last 45 games by playing dudes who we’ve seen fail over and over.
Agree with what you said snarkk. I was excited when McCray initially came up. However, he’s been given umpteenth chances to succeed and has face planted miserably for the most part . . . Next!

well I think Posey realizes he has to go out and get Vitello some pitching (especially after trading away his ace SP in Ray for prospects), ala Gausman Casey Mize etc. He handcuffed Vitello going in by only adding Mahle and Houser Brebbia aisle types. Not to mention failure to replace Rogers/getting closer better than Walker.
If the front office is gonna kibosh anything it would be something like that.

Agree and already stated that Vitello should be “reassigned” in the off season. They can do it in a way that saves everybody’s faces (keeping V in the org doing something nominal, maybe scouting or minors). I nominate Ron Washington. And Willie, completely agree that what has hurt V the most is the terrible construction of the pitching staff, especially the bullpen, by far the FO’s biggest blunder.
I know Ron (I’m older than George) Washington is probably the popular choice, but isn’t a complete 180 from a guy with zero ML inexperience to a most grizzled geezer even more embarrassing?

Some time in May, as the Giants were establishing themselves near the bottom of the standings, I looked to see who else was a bottom feeder. My “other team” the Red Sox. I remember thinking, ugh, it’s going to be a long season. Sox have won 27 of 30 since then, have caught NY for 2nd in that division and are now the #1 wildcard. Teams certainly can turn things around. Unfortunately, Giants not one of those, this year….
Chatting with a friend in Boston and asked him how the Sox turned it around like that. He said they fired most of their coaches, continued to suck for a few weeks, and then all of the sudden they just started playing well. No new players.
this is turning into a peculiar late season full of audition and departure. Can’t wait for the next cleat to fall in the Bader debacle, eg. Chapman’s gut. The Leonard family smile. When Houser’s an ace the deck is absurdly stacked against you. Is 100 possible? Yet I watch every game.
Chron posted stat that said Houser ERA is like 2.08 when he comes in out of pen, way over 5.00 when he starts. Yet he went public after game yesterday saying he’s a starter and doesn’t like role he had yesterday following opener, which we used to hear during Kapler era from others who were in that role (Manaea n Wood iirc). Safe to say he won’t return/won’t be missed.
Maria Guardado in mlb.com says his ERA over last 9 appearances out of pen is 2.03. Unfortunately Giants are on hook for remainder of $22 mil/2 years they signed him for in off season. If it is finally working for him why not stay with it?

Mahle with 6 IPs, 3 hits, zero runs, 9 Ks against Yanks yesterday. Houser should have been a reliable 1.3 WHIP, 3.80 ERA 130 inning starter. Look at his seasons. His fastball is still 95-97, so it’s not age. I’m the least disposed to look favorably on Buster’s regime, but those two signings were solid moves that both turned into worst case scenarios.
Houser did say in the mlb column that he made adjustment with his hands, that he said were too close to his body originally. If that’s what was wrong and he’s OK going forward the contract looks lot better.
And he’ll go 16-5 for the Mets
Any thoughts on Eldridge hitting lead off, as he is again today? Column in ATF (Foghorn) I get on phone says he continues to lead team in OB and has done OK vs. LHP. Also that Lee has not done very well at all at leadoff over his career, including this season.
Geez WilleD, I don’t have a strong opinion about the batting order. I’m still trying to get my head around the fact that exactly one week ago Arraez & Ramos were still in the lineup — seems a month ago. After they departed, V gave Eldridge a couple days off, with Wasabe leading off Monday vs Texas, Furman WhoDat, for the Tues game, and then came the four-on-the-floor batting order of Eldridge-Lee-Adames-Devers which V continues, including today’s BO.
The last I looked, league average OPS this year = .720 Eldridge, Lee & Devers are our only players with above league average OPS. Because who-really-knows, I’m not including Schmitt, Chapman, nor any of the current hologram crop ••• Susac is about 40 points below league average, Adumas is about 30 below … Brrrrrr, still very chilly).
See what happens I guess. Don’t think Vitello has much say in day to day lineup.

I received Mingus’ Ah Um as a mid-teens birthday present. If I could only take one, it still tops my desert island list. One of the world’s most beautiful/soulful/moving melodies. Written as a lament on the passing of Lester (pork pie hat) Young. Charles sure learned his composition lessons well from his time in Ellington’s band.

I don’t have an issue in a lost season to get Eldridge as many AB’s at possible.But to continue having to see this chumps is what really ticks me off!
What I do have a problem with is having Kennedy,Furman,Leonard,Koss, and pitchers like Sanmartin,Foley, etc getting stupid work then more talented players at AAA it’s BS their even on the 40 yet alone a yes on eligibility call ups! Roupp with the usual walks melt down. At least he waited until after having finished 5 full with “just” 2 walks in that stretch. So, five walks in 5.1 frames.
I think Vitello should have pulled him after two walks in the 6th, or at least had a mound visit before he threw the 3rd in a row. Did I miss a mound visit? Then, Roupp disses Vitello on the mound and on the way out. I would suspend this dude. And, seriously consider trading his ass in the offseason. If they weren’t so low on arms, he should be on the bus to Sac right now. This POS team doesn’t need selfish bible thumping dudes who think their constant mental meltdowns don’t merit the hook. This pitching situation looks pretty dire for the foreseeable future. Now I’m not so dubious about the potential for getting to 100 losses…
