Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Bailey’s OPS at 644 for his 68 PAs in Cleveland, a similar stretch of time to Susac’s last few weeks. It’s obvious Bailey will never be more than that at the plate, but the unplayable pitcher level stats he started the year with in SF didn’t make sense factoring in K rate, hard hit rate, BABIP. That’s why Cleveland traded for him.
It’ll be interesting to see if the offense is noticeably less productive w/o Arraez in there.

There were a lot of empty seats last night, despite the sellout. I suspect that the record had as much to do with that as the recent controversies. There were a few boos for Devers his first two PAs, then nothing.
Reading the Baggs and Brisbee pieces, the upshot seems to be, if you’re gonna be the leader, know what you’re good at. Whether or not the the press is “overblowing” the situation, there’s a kind of expected performance you have to be competent at. If you don’t have what it takes, delegate. The reporters and much of the wider audience are sophisticated enough to understand the PR game and how it’s played. That game does nevertheless have real meaning to people, just like the one on the field.
Maybe, “if you don’t have what it takes or your personal sympathies don’t lie with the aggrieved party, delegate” is a better summation of the possibilities.
I thought Buster’s performance was tightly rehearsed. Don’t move and you won’t misstep. Would’ve been hilarious to have V handle the presser. Wonder if Baer’s still in charge of anything these days.
The PR flak with Buster basically told the press scrum to knock off the tough questions or the presser was over. Bad look doesn’t begin to describe that. Amateur hour doesn’t begin to describe it.
The Giants organization is confirming it is a massive mess both on and off the field. Just a total embarrassment, now on the national stage for all to see and laugh at. When Buster or whoever is actually in charge of trades gets going, they begin operating from a position of weakness.

Sure, but that doesn’t seem to preclude saying *something* reassuring that isn’t critical of the players. Acknowledging that league policy was not clearly communicated and appropriate guidance was lacking. We let down the players and our fans. You can always start deflecting after offering the vague stuff. The Feds would be looking for documentation akin to the Nationals scandal, where someone is, e.g., making jokes or complaining about the preponderance of “Jesus Won” types in the clubhouse.
the feds are unpredictable right now, panicky and extreme, unsure how much power they’ll have after Nov. A nice messy California fracas would suit them well, I think. But i don’t mean to suggest that I enjoyed or approve of Buster’s clumsy stonewall.

Arraez close call at getting really hurt is a reminder not to wait too long to do these trades.
Last night’s game offered glimpses of what a better season might have been like. The back to back Adames/Devers plays, Ray efficient with his pitches, Eldridge drawing a key walk during a stretch where he’s otherwise not looking good, scoring on a base hit by Devers. There were still glaring mistakes, but those are diminished when the pitching is strong and the key players contribute at the plate and in the field.
Yes. though Kilian walking Lawrence Butler (BA .185) to bring potential lead run to the plate was stressful but he did close W out successfully.
Killian the Closer nearly crashed the illusion. My son was distraught; he texted me: “5 HRs! He’s given up 5HRs!”
The 5 HRs match the number Butler has hit, albeit in 200 PAs. I was envisioning Butler lofting one over the arcade, so wasn’t that distraught when Kilian passed on him with 1B open.
