Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Didn’t see much of yesterday(caught Miller and FP on radio game 1), great day for Vitello and team for most part, especially R Ray. Other trade candidates doing their share but seems most contending teams either looking for pitching, pen help mainly, or OFs. 2 things Giants have only in very short supply.
Saw in Windup column TA Levi Weaver re: Tyler Rogers–last 17 outings 1 where he gave up 3 runs/other 16 were scoreless. Glad he took money and ran, but points up cavernous hole he left in Giants pen. that’s not chump team they just swept either.
if they’d re-signed rogers and found a competent closer this season would be the opposite of what we have, V’s mistakes notwithstanding.
I’ve puzzled over the Adames Achilles heel. Is he half blind? Of course, the CF camera zooming from the side compresses the perspective; it distorts the breaks he chases and makes him look a bit worse than he is. But he does often flail at a slider off the plate. That’s a fact. I realized yesterday that he actually sees the slider coming. He loves the slider. He feasts on the slider — when it hangs. Which unfortunately it doesn’t do quite often enough.
Breaking pitches that hang over the middle of the plate often don’t initially look like strikes. But it’s not a simple binary. He may be trying to get a piece of the perfectly placed slider on the lower edge of the plate and just doesn’t recognize pitches that look like strikes but fall several inches off. It’s probably a challenge for most players. That’s why it’s better for hitters not named Arraez to K looking on the perfectly placed slider and take your walks on the junk off the plate, which is where most of those pitches wind up.
well yeah he shouldn’t swing at most of the sliders he swings at.
and he should strike out looking more and not get grief for it. It was the hitting philosophy of the previous regime.
everyone knows that many hitters, some more than others but still quite a few, chase four seamers just above the zone because they see them so well. The pitch is as big as a beach ball. They think they can crush it. But they can’t. My theory is that that’s similar to the way Willy sees the slider.
The difference between the two is that the pitch up, but still in the zone, is often vulnerable in a way the slider on the edge of the plate generally isn’t. I don’t need to see Adames flaring the rare single to RF while “protecting” the plate Bengie Molina style. Undoubtedly it’s easier said than done to simplify to breaking ball in, swing, same pitch middle away, leave alone, even if it’s a strike. But it doesn’t seem impossible.
Yes, in Willy’s case the problem and I think it’s a problem appears to be psychological not visual. He’s as predisposed to see a hanging slider (and it’s just about always a slider) as a zealot is a miracle.
well, let’s see if, today, these guys can actually put a 4 game win streak together for the first time this season. The odds are long, but hey, it’s baseball so we never really know.
Adames is basically a middling-overall quality SS, a mixed bag of declining ability, doing exasperating things, and receiving premium compensation for his up/down package of traits for the SS position.
I’ve tried to temper my exasperation with this guy by realizing that we were spoiled by a decade of Crawford’s superior defensive contributions, and decent, not top end offense, but often timely and clutch hitting; with no clowning.
Still, Adames’ play, his bat disappearing the first 2 months of every season, and undisciplined hitting approach rubs me the wrong way. His base running errors and scattershot arm are more than annoying. The Gatorade, the “fraternization” with the oppo. Yeah, he’s supposed to be a happy go lucky dude supposedly good for team morale. To me, 13-15 games underwater says that “leadership” means little. For his high K rate, IMO he should be hammering more HRs with high OPS to make up for that. I think playing at Oracle half the time is a real problem for him, coming from a generally warm, hitter’s park w/the Brewers.

The question is could Posey do better than this guy right now? Probably not. That article the other day saying the Brewers might want him back was enticing, but seems a long shot. The offseason seems to be the earliest he might be moved as the Giants “braintrust” reviews the season and where the farm SSs are in development.
Didn’t see Whis yesterday, so what was general impression: can he go 5, throw strikes and keep hitters off balance with secondary arsenal? what was pitch mix?
Had one that would have been a bomb held up by the wind, a few other hard hit balls at defenders. Only 2 Ks. Probably deserved a worse pitching line. Better than Mahle or Houser.
For a guy that had to take a red eye flight after finding out late he was called up and i think he mentioned 4 hours total sleep I thought he pitched well.Wishenhut got thru 5 innings with a FB hitting 96 mixed up his breaking ball, he was effective enough and got the W, all good to me. Will he get another start? Probably not it’s the Giants way unfortunately till they trade Ray/Mahle etc opening up a spot.

Yeah, visiting teams used to tease the U of Hawaii players so much that instead of the Rainbow Warriors they just started calling themselves the Warriors. I mean you can just about see rainbows pretty much anytime if you really look.

Checking out the scene from the Knicks celebration yesterday and all the joy NY was showing made me truly happy for them. It reminded me of all the joy the ’81’ Niners and the ’10’ Giants brought to all the fans here. I guess mostly because I wasn’t sure I would live long enough to see either of those things happen. With America being so fucked up right now it’s still wonderful to see joy like that.
