Three and Oh – Fuck – Thursday??? Oh Nevermind – It’s Fucking Jacksonville Sunday

Well, Bosa was right when he gave the thumbs down on his injury status walking to the tent. He is out for the year with a torn ACL.

Mac Jones gutted out a reoccurring knee injury and led the Niners to the game-winning FG as time ran out.

He’s day-to-day.

Purdy is day-to-day with his toe.

Mykel Williams is day-to-day with a wrist injury.

Renardo Green is day-to-day with a neck injury.

CJ West had surgery for a broken thumb, but he can possible play this weekend with a cast.

Jennings is day-to-day with a his ankle and shoulder injury that kept him out of this last game.

Kittle has one more game to hopefully come off the IR for his hammy.

BA? Who knows?

Purdy may be ready to come back for the Rams game on fucking Thursday night Jacksonville game next Sunday. Right. Thank God we have a short week to deal with all these injuries. Fuck. At least we are at home.

The good news is, we’ve won more division games in 3 weeks than we did all last year. The bad news is of course injuries. After the offense has been waylaid, the D suffers a huge blow with Bosa.

Next man up and all that shit, but really, Huff and Okuayinonu (and Saleh) have to scheme our way to get pressure on opposing QBs. Especially Matthew Stafford. next guy up for the Ram game.

As far as the game went, the run D is forming up pretty well. Upton Stout had a game saving breakup of a pass. The D played OK and got the laate stops that they had to to give the offense the chance for the game-winning FG. AZ helped with some crucial drops, but we aren’t getting to the QB enough and that’s is not gonna be helped by Bosa’s absence.

The run D is also gonna have to be big in this game. Travis Etienne is averaging 90 ypg, and their O is averaging 141 per game (5th in the league) so they have to be stout against the run to take this one.

Saleh has his work cut out for him with pressure, and at least Stafford is not very mobile Trevor Lawrence has only been sacked 3 times, but his numbers pretty much suck. 4 picks and 4 TDs and a woeful 55.3% completion percentage good enough for 33rd in the league. The hope is Saleh decides to bring the pressure with blitzes, stunts, and whatever else we can come up with to force more mistakes.

And, as much shit as I give Shanahan for his play calling, he finally ran play action inside the 10. I’ve only been saying that for 5 years now, He royally fucked up the previous drive by not being able to punch it in from 2nd and goal in the 1, but the TD drive and subsequent drive to win the game was solid and he worked the clock very effectively. So, yeah you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Did you forget about the Jacksonville game next Sunday?

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Derp. Thx, Bergs. Reading too far ahead.

Speaking of Derp, I guess I buried Deetroit a little early. They are beating the shit out of Baltimore in their house. They are running the ball down Balt’s throat and are pretty much having their way. They will be 2-1 and tied for the NFC North lead.

  3. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Jax D is pretty tough. A gimpy Mac or Purdy isn’t a good recipe along with Bosa down. Probably another tight one ahead.

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Harbaugh goes for 2? Not that it matters, but . . . why?

Balt looks as fucked over as the Chiefs do as the both stagger out of the gate at 1-2.

They have tough schedules so this isn’t gonna be good for either of them.

Once again our season is dictated by our backups. I will try and enjoy all the positives the Niners give us but my expectations will be low.

With a glut of depth at the WR position now and Bosa out of commission, I’m curious whether a trade might be coming to bolster DE/DL depth?

Trey Hendrickson only inked a 1yr deal in Cincinnati but, they’re without Burrough now and likely won’t want another WR.

      See what happens..

  7. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah, they gotta do something to replace him.

  8. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

I’m interested to see how they adapt without Bosa.

Micah Parsons just got forget about it money and Bosa was looking for a bounce back season to improve his case to get paid that kind of money in a renegotiation/extension for sometime next year.

I’m sure his injury either postpones or diminishes his anticipated pay day but if the Niners can still do well on the line and overcome the loss like the Rams did with Aaron Donald it changes the picture completely.

Im not saying he’s not a top player or that the team doesn’t need him, but it does present an opportunity to see just how important he is to the results of the team.

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

The improvement in our secondary will help too 12th. I like what Saleh is doing so far and Stout looks like a keeper as well.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

The secondary is a concern for me NJ.

Stout is out of position quite a lot, even on his huge pass breakup he had to make up a lot of ground.

He is the one rookie starter that is taking his lumps as John Lynch put it.

I definately see the big play ability and he plays tough, especially for his size.

Hopefully he just needs more reps to learn his assignments better. He has a chance to be a special player.

Renardo Green is having a rough second year so far. They are not giving him much safety help and he keeps giving up big plays. Hopefully he snaps out of it and returns to his rookie form.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Taking lumps now may be beneficial 12th. Trail by fire.

Hoping he’s going to be a fixture in the secondary down the road. Youth movement has it’s ups and downs.

Can’t nt complain about 2-0 in the division

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

It’s really on Huff to make big impact as the #1 pass rusher. Okuayinonu, Williams, and Gross-Matos also have to pick up the pressure. It’ll be on Saleh to mix in more blitzing and misdirection rushes to get added pressure.

This’ll be a big deal when we face the Rams.

Given all the injuries, the hope is we can take care of Jax fairly handily. Although so far nothing has been easy.

      Good study film.

Murray should have thrown to his low receiver instead of his high, Renardo Green was 2 steps behind that receiver when Murray let’s go of the ball, it probably would have made the first down marker.

Stout was also 2 steps behind but because the ball has to travel further it gave him time to catch up and make the second best play of the game.

The best play was Mac to Ricky downfield on 4th and 2, that’s big boy football, huge cajones from both players.

IMO, this is good to be without Bosa, the Niners need to know what they need to do if this injury makes Bosa not a top tier pass rusher, his second one to the same leg(?) could hamper him in the long run. He is 30 yrs old.

  16. Winder's avatar Winder says:

We are not gonna trade Jones that would just be to stupid. We might have to give up some picks to get a quality player and take over a big salary but I think that would be it. My guess is Purdy’s likely going to get hurt again with our oline situation.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

That is of course unless we want to tank the season.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Mac is going no where this season and is under contract for next. It’s possible a trade could happen next year but I doubt it.

        Tank the season?

3-0 and almost certainly going to win at least 50% of the next 14 games, that’s playoffs!

Purdy does get hurt, I read its 3 times in 7 games which is scary. Mac is worth his weight in gold to the Niners.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

I agree there is no way we trade Jones. I was being ridiculous about tanking the season.

This post is purely about the business aspects of a team.

Because DE elite pass rushers are now in the $40 mil dollar range there’s a real argument to be made not to go that route as it eats up almost as much as top QB money from the cap. Bosa was in line for that kind of new contract if he had a dominant season.

If almost $100 mil is used up by just 2 players, the team inevitably doesn’t have enough money to go around.

Throw in a LT and a number 1 WR that’s another $60 mil plus on just 4 players.

QB is the one spot that there is no real option but to pay, the Bills are mid pack without their QB for instance.

All of the other positions are choices, pay top dollar for a top 5 player or considerably less for a top 10 player which leaves money to upgrade around them.

The league is at this juncture now and the Niners will get a chance to see if they can stay effective without a top 5 player at DE.

If they can, they may well choose to trade Bosa rather than re-up his contract.

  20. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

I would not trade for a name DE right now, let the season play out and see if the 9ers are real contenders by the trade deadline Nov 4th. If they believe they have a real shot at that point then go all in.

  22. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I’m pretty torn on the issue of what to do at this point.

I think we have the players now, unless we can get a guy:

    a) on the cheap, or
    b) controllable for a few years

We will have to wait and see on Bosa so that’s gonna be a way later decision. A trade for Hendrickson would be costly and unless we throw the bank truck at him would be a rental.

He’s the same age as Bosa but has only missed 3 games in his career as opposed to Bosa who has missed around 30.

I think they roll with what they have. I can’t see trading anyone at this point, but you never know.
