Membou or Bust?

If anyone was to fall to us, it would be Armand Membou. He’s large, fast, quick off the line, pass blocks and run blocks very well, and is familiar with our zone blocking scheme. His only shortcoming is his height. Most tackles are 6’4″ + and he comes in at 6’3″, but his hand quickness and overall speed should negate this somewhat.

Even Will Campbell, a guy who’s rated higher than Membou and stands 6’6″ comes with the limitation of having shorter arms than Mambou. Banks I don’t think we have a shot at, so there it is. Membou or trade down.

Yeah, there are a lot of DTs out there, and we appear to be looking at all of them, but I’m pretty sure that they are gonna go tackle with the 11th pick. Unless those 3 guys are gone. And I do not want us to take a shot on Josh Simmons coming off patellar tendon surgery. Shemar Stewart looks like he would fit right in as a 4-3 edge rusher.

A guy we could trade down for is Nic Scourton, DE From Texas A&M. 6’4″, 285 lb. First-team all-SEC. He looks to step right in as he’s a 4-3 edge guy. Thing is, even the late 2nd round projection guys like Donovan Ezeiruaku are fairly solid, so I think we can wait to build the D line while getting an OT in the 11.

After that, who knows? The 49ers need starters and depth at O line, D line, LB, CB, RB, TE, and WR out of this draft class. And they should take a flier on a late – round QB. You know, just in case.

Just don’t draft a kicker.

I still hope we go defense the first few rds. I can’t remember what they called em but I think it’s gold helmet players. Usually 10-15 players make 49ers list evey year. I would really like to see that list because there are so many players in this years draft that sound to good to be true. I think after the McGlinchy fiasco they are a little gun shy at that spot but hey WTFDIK.

I don’t think Membou will still be on the board at 11. I guess it all depends on how many QB’s, Edge, TE’s, and RB’s get picked before that. And, I couldn’t tell you who’s really good and who isn’t. My guess is the first 4 non QB’s picked are the real deal.

Derek Carr’s injury may tip the sales in our favor. The Saints are drafting at 9.

(I added the 1st round draft order)

Here’s another ZBS option that likely makes it out of RD 1.

I could see Ersery as a solid 2nd rd pick, he’s massive and could slide right into RT maybe moving McKivitz to LG..

The 1st pick there are so many ways to go, they haven’t taken an OT lineman in the 1st since McGlincey in 2019 so as much as I like Membou ( he’s probably gone anyway) I’m liking DT Stewart 1st pick but of course it will be CB Will Johnson in this pass happy league and paried with Green and Lenior and Safety Mustapha would make them an elite secondary , Lenior could even move to the slot coverage, but like Winder and others WTFDIK???

Stewart scares the shit out of me in that he’s a combine all-star and his athleticism doesn’t translate to production.

4.5 sacks in his college career? I’d stay away from him at 11.

  6. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I’d be OK with drafting Membou or Banks at 11. I’d much rather have Grant, or any DT that they think is better. I’d like to go DT at 1 and 2. My 2nd choice is DT and DE 1 and 2. If one of the above OL slips in, I’d be OK with it.

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Banks will be gone. Campbell prolly as well. I think we’d be better off with Membou anyway, so that’s who I’m pulling for. Grant or Graham would suit me fine.

Point being, one of these guys will be there. There are enough to go around.

    Don’t want a corner. Donb’t want a TE.

It’s either OT, DT, or DE. Next pick is whatever you didn’t get in the 1st round. 3rd pick is what is left over.

    Sack THE QB!

    Give Bosa some help.

We’ve whiffed on too many picks in the Lynch Shanny years.

Trent needs an understudy, which I think can be had outside of RD 1. I trust the depth in the trenches to give us plenty of options after pick 11.

What I don’t want to see is Shanny going after a RB or WR before RD 3.

What a waste of money signing Verlander!!!

    From the Athletic this morning

    San Francisco 49ers

    1 (11). Edge Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M
2 (43). LB Carson Schwesinger, UCLA
3 (75). OT Anthony Belton, NC State
    3 (100). DT Omarr Norman-Lott, Tennessee
4 (113). RB Damien Martinez, Miami
4 (138). CB Bilhal Kone, Western Michigan
5 (147). WR Tez Johnson, Oregon
    5 (160). G/C Jackson Slater, Sacramento State
7 (227). TE Jackson Hawes, Georgia Tech
7 (249). QB Max Brosmer, Minnesota
7 (252). DT Elijah Simmons, Tennessee

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah everything looked good until he suffered a season ending knee injury. I wouldn’t do it. We have seen that too many times

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Big no to Simmons and Stewart. Patellar tendon surgery? Pass.

Stewart is Chase Young 2.0. For all his athleticism, 4.5 sacks in 3 years of college?

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

I’m leaning towards Pearce and Green at 11.

      Sack the QB 😉

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

OT Grant from W&M is another guy I have on my wishlist.

We found a small school gem years ago from James Madison by the name of Charles Haley too. He’s going to need a year to develop anyway. We can afford it so long as Trent stays healthy.

Simmons doesn’t worry me as much with a patellar injury as an ACL repair might. A RB would be a different story. OL not so much.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

Peter Green had a fairly short, but great, run.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Some of their best stuff was with him. Growing up I only knew about the later Fleetwood Mac. Took hearing Green Manalishi by Judas Priest and finding out it was a Fleetwood Mac song to discover all their old good stuff.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Any thoughts on this kid?

OT Cameron Williams, Texas. Only played one year, but he flew up the draft charts. 2nd rounder? 3rd?

Williams is 6-foot-6 and 317 pounds with a wingspan of 84 1/2 inches. Dude can flap his arms and fly.

Raw but holy shit. He’s fast and huge.

Hearing about Chris Paul as the next Greenlaw. Undersized LB. with a fast motor.

    3rd round guy.
