Color me optimistic. After a huge turd of an offseason of dithering with contracts, and yet another draft of not addressing the RT position, let alone LT, we are poised on the brink of the 2024 season. Against of course the guy who would be the Niners QB at least a couple of times. Once in 2005 with the draft (where we picked Young Sir Alex), and again in 2021 when Not-So-Jolly Rodgers was cranked about his contract in Green Bay, we stuck with Jimmy G and drafted Trey Lance.
Funny we had Mike McCarthy in-house as our OC way back then, and very well could have had Rodgers. My thought around 2007 (IIRC) was we should have kicked Nolan upstairs to be GM and have elevated McCarthy to head coach. But who knows? Even the 2021 deal could have netted up a championship. I’ll never figure out the reluctance to pull the trigger, even on the se old QBs.
Same thing happened with Brady FFS. But digress.
Now? Now we are fully immersed in the Brock Purdy era. The offense is a well-oiled machine, and the defense is full of talent, but we have a new DC in Nick Sorensen, and his sidekick Brandon Staley. The preseason offered little to determine how these guys are playing together, but I sure didn’t like the defensive formations we were using. These looked a lot like last year’s bend-and-break defense.
I’ll reserve judgement until this shit goes for real. Meaning tonight.
- 6-3 is Rodgers’ record in the reg season
- 0-4 in the playoffs
So, despite the hold-ins, hold-outs, random shootings of 1st round picks, and even CMC’s possible achilles injury, I think this team has already overcome a ton of adversity. I think we will come out hard and fast. The Jets are a talented team, but I think we can out-man them in just about every spot.
We overwhelm the Jets, 31 – 17.
In the first half, an Olineman had his arm wrapped around Bosa neck, and no call. That’s BS
Nice to see Kyle mixing it up. Bill Walsh alway ran plays until the D could stop it. If you ask me the Jets are starting to stop the run a little.
Okay now we get to see if Kyle goes for the jugular or he will try to burn the clock.
If we see 3 runs…I will be pissed
man. Th e Jets just aren’t very good.
do not like our defense in any way shape or form.
a smart coach would take Mason out.
hey he took him out.
but we are the exact same soft coverage LBs line up too deep no fucking blitzing defense.
what am I missing here?
the o was ok but 6 FGsis not ringing up the scoreboard.
get Bosa and Floyd out
Good win nice way to start the season.
Yes, a nice win in the first game. A lot of rust to be knocked off as with any team in the league, but the Niners dominated. Plenty to work on but that’s football, especially these days with the reps so severely limited in camp by league rules. They’re only going to get better.
1 game, I don’t put too on the first game. Sorry Chuck but the D was solid IMO. I don’t think the D gets the calls they should get, and it appears when Kyle sends tapes of bad calls the refs don’t do anything to change.
nice win over what looks like a bad team.
I’m gonna say it one more time I hate this defensive scheme.
our defense is vanilla. It is based on the D line winning every battle every time.
no blitzes. Not enough sustained pressure. When you force everyone on the defense to play perfectly every play there will be breakdowns.
The jets dropped passes and looked as bad as they are gonna be. No run game not much in WRs so a nice early win.
But we should have won by 30.
Given all the weirdness I guess I should take it all with a grain of salt.
a win is a win. Lots to fix tho.
The OL really played great imo they scored on 8 straight possessions and Mason wow 28 rushes for 147 yards and a Touchdown so the OL was getting it done.Even the weak link McKivitz contributed getting face necked by a rusherthat drew a penalty to off set his other dumb penalties.. Jets are better then what they showed tonight, defense was terrible, bad penalties, pick didn’t help either..Hey 1st game but really solid effort and controlling the time of possession all night! Take the Win and build off of it..
no, the jets aren’t very good. This wil be a sad year for them yet again.
