Armadillos and Peccadillos

Got to say, I’m very baffled by the defensive effort in these two playoff games. No one setting the edge. Not playing through the whistle. Missing tackles. The clips are there for all to see of Chase Young barely trying on the Jameson Williams 42 yard TD run. Green Bay had WRs blocking Young and washing him out repeatedly. Wide receivers! Very disappointing that Young isn’t playing for a contract at the least. He should be going balls-to-the wall at this point.

That being said, the onus next week is for Steve Wilks to get his guys in the right places. I really do NOT want to see yet another game start with our linebackers playing so deep. So many games this year seem to start with the opposing teams simply marching down the field and getting points. It is a testament to the red zone defense that we held GB to two opening drive field goals. Pittsburgh scored on their opening drive, Deetroit got 2 TDs on their opening drives, the Rams did as well off the top of my head.

Wilks seems to wait until the base defense has been beaten soundly to even start throwing stunts out there. Let alone blitz. Funny thing is, the blitzes usually work. The 3rd down bugaboo also came back to bite these guys HARD. 3rd and 18? We go soft and the Lions runs a screen toss that gets 20 yards. 14 after the catch. 3rd and 12? 8 yard pass over the middle that we don’t stop. 3rd and 8? Another Their success early led to 24 points. The only reason they didn’t go up 28-7 was because they ran out of time.

This shit won’t fly come next Sunday.

      Oakland Raiders LB RIP

Carl Weathers, a former NFL linebacker who became a Hollywood action movie and comedy star, playing nemesis-turned-ally Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” movies, facing off against Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator” and teaching golf in “Happy Gilmore,” has died. He was 76.

Nice to see Bosa getting this out there.

The last time they met in the Super Bowl, they missed 4-5 calls.

Found this on the interwebs. 6 degrees of CJ Beathard:

CJ Beathard was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft. Beathard was George Kittle’s college QB. Kittle was thought of as a great pairing for Beathard, as a low 5th round pick, to give him some confidence.

After leaving for free agency in 2021, Beathard signed with the Jaguars as their backup QB, qualifying the 49ers for a compensatory pick.

The 49ers were awarded the 262nd selection in the 2022 NFL draft, using it to select Brock Purdy.

    Crazy.

Wow. Didn’t know that. I liked CJ because he was so tough he kept getting hammered and kept getting up. I don’t know what the problem was if it was reading defenses or just couldn’t pull the trigger fast enough. But he was a gamer.

The Chiefs are the official home team for the big game in Las Vegas and chose to wear their red home jerseys with white numbers, just as they did in 2020 when they beat San Francisco in Super Bowl 54. If you’re rooting for Brock Purdy, George Kittle and the 49ers, wear white.

Take down all your 5X SB champ stuff before the game too
I’m hoping to burn mine this year 😁

This is a video of the 2022 draft of all players chosen, the end is about Purdy, he looked good in College.

Oops meant all players the Niners drafted

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I said the exact same thing in my post. The Niners give up TDs early often as they play their brand of the Mike Nolan memorial vanilla defense.

Just as Jim Harbaugh loved playing the offense close to the vest and not take chances until it was painfully necessary, Wilks is doing the same shit with the defense.

      I don’t want him back.

Someone posted a really glowing video piece on Purdy before he played a down in the NFL. I posted it w while back but I can’t find it.

Yep. Our prevent defense. Safeties deep. LBs 8 yards back. This isn’t just the last 2 games either. Get the fuck after them.

    Cohn is a twitbag.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

I don’t pay attention to anything he says if fact I won’t listen to anything he says. Talk about someone who blows it out his ass and you have Cohn.

The Saints are expected to hire 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak as their next offensive coordinator, and he will likely bring some of his own assistants along as he attempts to re-shape the Saints’ offense.

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Kubiak and Griese both thought very highly of Purdy coming out of college. Helps to have brain trust.

The AFC and NFC alternate being the “home” team for the Super Bowl, and the home team gets to pick the color of jersey. Teams wearing white jerseys have won 16 of the past 19 Super Bowls.

    Superstitious math equates to .842%
I can live with those odds 😜

  11. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Defense is gonna win this game just hope it’s ours.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah. Thing is, you contain Kelce, you slow them down. But the run defense against Pacheco is paramount.

Seeing the defense is not at max effort in these playoffs is reason enough for me to move on from Wilks. Just watch Chase Young.

Even still, that Deetroit game you could see the Lions getting worn down by our hitting in the 2nd half.

  13. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

I just wished the 49ers were wearing their Red/gold jerseys it just always seems more DOMINANT on tv but this BS of alternating NFC/AFC colors every year ticks me off! Team with the best record should always get to choose the colors they wear along with home field status, something the Chiefs didn’t earn allowing them to wear Red..

8th SB appearance this will be and their 3-1 wearing red, 2-1 wearing white. Are only 2 losses which are now are last 2, are by are Losers of QB’s Crapernick 2013 wearing red,and Grcrapollo, wearing white in 2020.So I guess the positive wearing white in this one would be to even up the win total in both colors right?

    From Niners Nation

What’s the secret to turning a joke into a juggernaut? Nothing to it. Just make two of the best trades in franchise history to net two of the NFL’s best players, draft your franchise QB with pick No. 262, draft an All-Pro linebacker with pick No. 70, select an All-Pro tight end with pick No. 146..”

Shanalynch drafts have come a long way since solomon Thomas and Reuben foster and the Tre Lance hiccup.

Amazed with the Trent Williams trade. Would like to see what the niner system can do on Chase Young.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Dump him. He ain’t worth the scratch he’s gonna command. He’s a decent rental that will cost little. Sweat was the guy to get but his price was much higher.

Chase is here with his mentor and friend Nick Bosa and if he can’t give max effort in the playoffs, why bother?

      • Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Young was a rental, he has not lived up to his ability. He is a free agent

Cool story in TA about Purdy s Dad career as minor league pitcher. Great family. Hopefully he can show out and help take down Mahomes and Chiefs.

    Hey DJ, fuck the Chiefs!

We had a 24-hour power outage, a 30′ oak tree fell in our yard, and we lost part of a fence. Was up on the roof replacing tiles that blew off, but thankfully no leaks.

Winds in Walnut Creek were over 80 mph on Sunday. Crazy.
    PG&E trucks everywhere.

Anyone catch Shanahan at talking to M-Rob yesterday? He looked pretty drunk. he actually smiled and said things.
