- Turnovers
- Penalties
- Tackling
The 49ers won a lot of games this year by winning these battles. And the games we lost were where we lost these battles. The 3 game losing streak saw a bunch of turnovers from Brock and Co, mis-timed fumbles, poor tackling, and lazy penalties. They were a team in desperate need of that bye week. And they righted the ship after the bye, cranking off 6 wins in a row.
This gives me hope as the Niners got healthy during this two-bye week break. Having Hargraves and AA in the interior is a huge difference over Kinlaw and Givens (who gave up 235 yards to the Cards).
Steve Wilks knows that Green Bay will use their quick passing game to get quick yards. Play action. Misdirection runs. You know, our offense. The hope is practicing against it will give us the edge, but it cuts both ways. They are gonna run all their pre-snap motion to confuse, but we just need to swarm the ball and hit. Make the tackle.
Watching Philly and Dallas candy-ass their way out of the playoffs, it was a clinic on missing tackles and committing lazy penalties. Dak was Dak and threw his usual 2 interceptions per playoff game, and Philly looked like they were late for a tee time and just stupided themselves out of the game. Funny, the Eagles beat the Bucs running the ball earlier in the season so naturally they ran the ball 4 times in the 1st half.
Derp. Sirianni has to wear that. As well as McCarthy and his woefully unprepared Cowboys. So, naturally, they are rewarded with extensions!!
The Niners have been all over the place penalty-wise. Mooney Ward started the year collecting PI calls like S&H green stamps, but settled down. Dre Greenlaw is always riding on the edge of a personal foul or 3, but it hasn’t flipped any of our games.

Then of course is the usual war in the trenches. Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush. Harass Love, and drive him into the ground.
That last pass by Love was horrible. Great play by Greenlaw, but Warner might’ve gotten it if Dre didn’t.
It’s starting to look like wet weather is Purdy’s Kryptonite.
I don’t know, only 2nd game in the rain? Cleveland and now a home game. He just admitted the rain was tough for him
He played in the rain in Iowa, and he took the glove off after the first drive.
I wonder if it was the inactivity. I did want Purdy to play the first quarter in the Commie game. But hey, as long as he learns from this and the fucking line blocks better.
That was fucking nuts. I’m at home and still I was standing in front of the tv the whole 4th quarter.
That game could have went either way. To win a game like that has to strengthen the teams attitude and also give a dose of reality. I bet this coming weeks practice will be a little more intense. With the weather and sitting for a couple of weeks we were a little sloppy.
The Niners played like shit on all sides. Bad offense, bad defense, bad special teams, and they still figured out how to win.
For all of the great plays Love and Green Bay made, he lost that game for them. Purdy could have had a couple picks, but we got the turnovers.
Greenlaw is the man of the hour.
Can’t believe Shanahan didn’t trust his run game more, despite GB packing the box.
When I saw it was raining, I just figured we would lose. Purdy sucks in the rain. It is why they measure hands in the combine. He absolutely sucks in the rain. The fact that he pulled of that last drive, in the rain, is a testament that the game is not too fast for him. It was incredibly impressive. We need a dome for this QB. LOL!
Breen Bay will be a top 4 Super Bowl favorite next year. I honestly believe that they are tougher than TB or Detroit. Add the rain and that we lost Debo, I am surprised we won. This will go down as a special win in our history if we go all the way.
With any luck Deebo won’t miss the NFCG next weekend –

Next Gen stats showed Dre ran 101yds to net 25.
A Fran Tarkenton-like moment worth it’s weight in gold.
Game ball recipient if ever there was one.
And without a doubt….
Misery is a wet Purdy 😁
Yep. Here’s to hoping the weather improves next week. Otherwise we don’t have home field advantage.
Got to hope Deebo doesn’t have another hairline fracture of his shoulder.
Papa and Ryan on radio referenced The Catch game, where Montana and Niners had bunch of turnovers but won it in the end. Purdy last drive was epic one they needed They talked to Greenlaw post game and he said he changed cleats as it got slippery out there for D.
118 for Jones on ground, but if you take out the big gainer it was 55 on 17 carries. Niners only ran the ball 4 fewer times than GB. Did convert 10-16 on 3rd down and most other overall stats very even, except for turnovers. I think GB left quite an impression on them. Dunno if TB or Lions are as good or as well coached.
Shanahan gets comeback gorilla off his back too.
That article about Deebo is encouraging, thanks for posting it Berger. He’s one guy they can ill afford to lose. The entire offense looks different when he’s out.
To quote Neil Young Rust Never Sleeps, well it sure did in this game as the long lay-off sure affected them early on with way too many penalties that the Packers took advantage of.
That said they won the turnover battle 2-0 due to Dre “please get down” Greenlaw huge interceptions and a stuff on Love on a tush push ending another drive deep in their territory!
Greenlaw was the difference all night, and Purdy still came through on the final drive with CMC capping it off, with the player of the game Greenlaw sealing it in the end with his 2nd pick!
Just glad to move on and pray the RUST wears off now next week!!
Sorry about the commercial but this is worth listening to IMO
Only you get the commercial, Winder!
Thanks, I guess I stay on YouTube to long and they figure I need one.
Taking one for the team . . . !
TB starting to impose their will on the Lions.
Surprising.
Goff has some real ugly throws so far.
Lions coming to town..TB had to many defensive injuries and couldn’t keep up. All I can say is we better play better next week or we are in trouble.
I’m sure we will.
Bass Baldy could’ve kicked that better.
One step closer to the rematch!
Hah!!!!!! Hey DJ! Good to see ya.
Thanks, Unca Chuck.
Amazing that I’ve still never met you and so many others after all these years…
I know, still trying to get out to New York one of these days.
9-10 in playoff predictions.
Buffalo gets another wide right. Ouch.
Wide right is a very happy memory for huge NY Giant fan Mac Dog. He texted me before the ball landed. Hope you guys are all okay!
Yep. It set the NFL back 20 years but Big Tuna got the win. Good to see you in touch with Mac.
New thread is up.
