Last Game – Long Strange Trip Indeed . . .

This season flew by, but wow, what a weird-ass season. We weren’t supposed to have Jimmy G, let alone be counting on the last pick in the draft to lead the way. But here we are are at 12-4 and still with a shot at the #1 seed. When this team was 3-4 and had been waylaid by Kansas City, I certainly thought the team could reach the playoffs, but I sure didn’t see us running the table.

The thing about this season is, no one short of Buffalo, KC, and Cincy, inconsistency is the name of the game. Especially in the NFC. We have as good a shot as anyone of getting to the Super Bowl. None of the NFC teams scare me. Philly, Dallas, and esp. Minnesota look very beatable. We just need to do the usual. Take care of the ball. Avoid stupid penalties, and get pressure on the QB.

As far as today’s game goes, I don’t think AZ is really feeling anything but the offseason. That team has a lot of talent, but they had a lot of injuries, and a lot of giving up. Watching them on Hard Knocks was pretty cool but it really showed that the team was not playing with any urgency or heart.

So the hope is we can get on top early and get the starters out ASAP.

Tell ya one thing, it would be funny to see the Bears beat the Vikings. Let alone the NYFGs beating the Iggles.

Winder, sunny and 60 degrees in Santa Clara right now.

  2. dirtnrocksnomo says:

hitting the game with my youngest. Hoping it’s a good one. Anyone have a parking recommendation

  3. alleykat69 says:

Damm I don’t think we’re going to get the top seed.NY Giants are tanking with QB Daniel Jones sitting it out along with Barkley? and most of the starters! They’re starting QB Davis Webb?? Hurts is playing along with Göddert and Brown,Sanders,Smith they’re all in to clinch top seed..
Agree blowout the Cards by halftime and pull the starters!

  4. unca_chuck says:

Shit. We have to play to keep the 2 seed. Chicago is laying down as well.

  5. Winder says:

We gotta earn it today. I don’t care what I still get nervous playing these guys but since their QB is out I think we should handle business without to much trouble.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Starting to get worried about our DBs again. That was an easy pick.

  7. unca_chuck says:

    Lenoir is the weakest link

  8. alleykat69 says:

Jesus Christ that’s the second time they have been burned on a long bomb in the first minute this year! Agree Chuck Lenior is the player teams are going after!

  9. Irish Kevin says:

When is the Bills/Bengals game going to be played

  10. unca_chuck says:

That was easy. If the defense does anything this shouldn’t be too hard.

Have fun, Micah! At least the weather will cooperate.

  11. Irish Kevin says:

About time Ryans called a blitz!!!

    • unca_chuck says:

Yep. I wonder if we played it too close to the vest last week due to the playoffs coming up. But that was dumb as you always pressure young guys.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Jesus. Line looks like shit today.

    • willedav says:

Fortunately so does Cardinals O line. If Niners can avoid roughing the passer penalty, they should be all over passing game.

  13. willedav says:

Shout out to Dirt, have fun at game.
Took walk in LG Creek today, man water running fierce and has swallowed up land btw Creekside (behind Pruneyard) all the way to Leigh Ave.

  14. unca_chuck says:

They are playing the run against us. Should be able to hit quick passes.

  15. unca_chuck says:

There you go. Get the TD

  16. unca_chuck says:

    Nice little misdirection run.

  17. unca_chuck says:

D really misses Greenlaw. This is a terrrible effort.

  18. alleykat69 says:

So much for pulling the starters at halftime…

  19. Irish Kevin says:

    Slow start but finishing strong

  20. alleykat69 says:

That’s more like it a pissed off Shanahan said we need to put their team away and come out and score right away after halftime! And CMC&Mitchell with his 2nd TD ran hard behind the OL to get that 6!!!

  21. unca_chuck says:

10 in a row to round out the year. Nice job.

Giants fighting back. Got a slim chance.

  22. unca_chuck says:

    Damn. Giants couldn’t do it.

Need a miracle at the meadowlands.

  23. Winder says:

It has been an incredible year. 6-0 in the division, 10 wins in a row. Good to be a Niner fan.

  24. unca_chuck says:

Great, if unexpected, season played out in the most bizarre fashion. Keeping Jimmy was weird enough, having him win was weirder, but Purdy winning our last 5-3/4 games is off the charts wild.

I just miss Emanuel Moseley. Really wish he was able to play.

  25. unca_chuck says:

Lenoir got cooked these last 2 games. We rarely roll safety help so he’s got to play better. He did get a little better as the game went on, but those lapses have to stop.

  26. unca_chuck says:

We are gonna be playing Seattle or Green Bay next weekend. I’d think GB wins and comes here, but who knows? Green Bay has been playing without a care from when they were 4-8 and seemingly out of it, but we’ll see if they tighten up a bit.

Deetroit is already out of it with the Seattle win, sadly, but I’m sure Deetroit would love to kick GB out of the dance.

  27. unca_chuck says:

Frankly, Green Bay doesn’t really scare me anymore. They can’t score for shit in the red zone.

  28. alleykat69 says:

I would be less scared facing Seahawks with Geno Smith then Packers with Aaron Rodgers who has a vendetta against the 49ers for sure the last few years..

  29. PaulinAsia Banh Bao says:

Oh, lookee here, I found Chuck’s blog and a bunch of Flappers… 🙂

  30. unca_chuck says:

    Welcome, Paulie!!

  31. unca_chuck says:

    Yep. GB puckering hard.

  32. Irish Kevin says:

The other record the Niners have is the teams that have lost to them, those teams are like 0-10 in their next game.

  33. Irish Kevin says:

    The Niners are hosting Seattle

  34. Winder says:

Looks like it’s Seattle. Might as well start with a team that we know and hate just as much as they know us and hate us. This game is not gonna be a pushover by any means.

  35. Irish Kevin says:

With Purdy as the Starting QB, the Niners have scored 30+ points in 4 out of the 10, if you count the Miami game it is 5 out of 10. This is the scoring machine the Niners were supposed be at the beginning of the season

  36. willedav says:

Props to J Goff and Lions for walking into Lambeau and taking out Rogers and Pack.
Goff played at Cal and grew up locally, played HS ball for Marin Catholic in Kentfield. Was part of those Sonny Dykes teams that won (or lost) games 48-46, Feeling pretty good right now though. Have Lions ever been in title game since 1957 (or 58) vs. Niners? I bet Loo would know answer to this.
    Paul is here, awesome!

  37. alleykat69 says:

It was actually 1991 when the last time Detroit won a playoff game as Barry Sanders ran all over the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas.Sanders is still one of my alltime favorite runners he had more moves than Elvis Presley! Just so sad he was cursed playing for Detroit, even though they did make the playoffs like 6-7 years by far their best organizational run,Barry still with treads on the tire decided to hang ‘em up early, whether then continuing dealing with heartbreaking playoff losses. Highly recommend the documentary on ESPN Barry Sanders A Football Life” if u run across it it’s fantastic breaking down his roots from early on… PS..Nice to see u find Chuck’s blog Paul,Good Morning Vietnam 🇻🇳 🇺🇸are afternoon are evening

  38. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, playing for Detroit was the biggest reason why Sanders retired when he did.

Loved his game. And yeah, that Football Life on him is excellent.

And, Paulie, it isn’t ALL football!
