Not much to say other than Shanahan should go. He said in the pisser of a presser after the game that he plans on calling the same plays going forward with Lance in the game should he come back. In other words, he’s more than ready to risk Lance’s health to win games. Lance has played 3.25 games and he has 53 rushes. Sure, some are scrambles, but most of them aren’t.
Shanahan gives no fucks about the guy he traded three first round picks for. He seems hell-bent on getting the QB of the future hurt. I simply do not get it. And then he has the gall to say “it was a football play” “other teams do it all the time” “Baltimore and Buffalo do it”.
So? Does Buffalo run Allen between the tackles 3 times in the 1st quarter? I was pissed at Shamahan after the Super Bowl loss. I was more pissed after the NFCCG last season. Same blown leads, same failure. How do we start the season? Another 10 point collapse. Shanny snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Now this. Folks are saying that these play calls obviously means that Lance isn’t ready. But then again, how do we know this? Have they done anything more than run a vanilla offense with Lance for the most part? Of course. Shamahan has nothing on Vanilla Mike Nolan. Shit, look at our 2nd half. We couldn’t have played more turtle-like. Shanny never met a lead he didn’t want to fritter away. We get to the red zone and do we play action? Nope. Run run run, blocked FG for TD.
It felt like another 2nd half collapse was on the way but Seattle is vastly inferior to the Rams or Chiefs, and they didn’t take advantage of our wimpy offense. What should be a well-deserved gloat of beating the shot out of the Seahawks is instead an indictment of our head coach’s pig-headedness.
Nice game by the defense. Talafoa Hufanga has played phenomenal these 2 games. Pass rush was decent.
Lance going down and Shanny’s bizarre excuse for his play calling has really deflated my interest in this season. Maybe that will change with a bunch of wins. The defense is fun to watch. I’m just disgusted and disheartened right now.
The biggest irony is that it seems the 49ers were just waiting for a big QB injury to happen to a team so we could trade Jimmy G. Suddenly we are that team with the QB injury.
There’s no irony to the situation when you run your franchise QB 53 ties in 3 games.
My immediate thought after the injury was I hope we lose this game and many more so they can fire Shamahan.
Just such a fucking stupid way to handle things by the coach.
Every guy he had traded up for seems to then be a target for Shanahan’s wrath. He traded up for Reuben Foster, the disaster of a 1st round pick. He traded up for the Beater. Meh. Struggle. Cut. Joe Williams never saw he field. Dante Pettis, the guy who just beat us in Chicago was always in the dog house, and underperformed while here. Brandon Aiyuk was in the doghouse for the first 6 games of last season for no apparent reason other than Shanahan’s bullheadedness. Trey Sermon? In the doghouse and dumped after one bad season. And now Trey Lance. The sell the farm to get him, and they use him like a fullback. ANd Shanny says he’ll do it again.
Does Shanahan hate the GM? You know. Himself?
If I was Jed, I’d seriously be questioning the sanity of my head coach. But seeing as they are much better than the clown-show from the previous groups, these guys will get all the leeway in the world to destroy Lance’s career.
To say Lance is a franchise QB is only because of what we gave up to get him. He doesn’t resemble anything that looks like a franchise QB yet. His mechanics are so bad he may never be anything but the nest Tim Tebow. He needs a personal throwing coach, like what Brady has.
Come on, Bergs. They traded 3 first round pick to get him. The IDEA was he is the franchise QB. He has more RB work in his 3 starts thant most RBs. 54 carries in 3.25 games. Brilliant.
It’s ludicrous that Shanahan uses him like that. It’s bad enough with the runs, but between the tackles is flat irresponsible. And then he comes out in his presser and says “I’ll do it again when he’s healthy.”
It makes absolutely no sense.
I will agree with this post. I have the same concerns. But, this is exactly how they wanted to use him when they drafted him. Personally, I like a good pocket passer who analyzes the field and throws receivers open. Everybody seems to want that running QB these days.
No they don’t. At least Shanny never came out and said, “I’m gonna use him like a fullback who will throw occasionally.” If this was his intent, I would have been advocating for him to take Jones.
Running a play like that and where we were on the field probably averages 2 yards maybe 3 at the most. I think Shanny is full of shit and if it wasn’t for our defense we probably would have lost that game.
Shanny reverted right back to his wimpy-ass play calling that forces his players to break 3-4 tackles to get yardage.
ALL WE HAVE BEEN HEARING since the arrival of Lance was, “He has a big arm” “We will stretch the field” “The deep pass is back!” “Gone is the wimpy Jimmy short passing game offense”
And we get QB draws. No passing of note. Lance hit 2 nice long passes in Chicago. But nope. Here we go, down on the red zone, with Lance AND Jimmy yesterday. Run run, injury. Run run run, blocked FG.
The entire 2nd half was yet another prevent offensive display. If Shanny’s an offensive guru, why do we look so inept?
Bergs, nowhere in any of the talks about Lance were they saying “We want to run the fuck out of him.” “We are gonna run read-option till we break him”
It was all about his big arm, the deep passing game that would open up and how we can now stretch the defense.
If their intent was to make Lance Lamar Jackson, then that is an even greater indictment of their stupidity. Fuck these guys. They deserve the shit that will follow. I give Jimmy 6 games before his inevitable injury and we are down to Purdy Mouth.
Then the shit will fly.
You and almost everybody on this site spent pre draft talking about what a sloth Mac Jones is at QB. Everybody here except NJ 49er and I were talking about Lance and Fields great ability to run. Jones was the next coming of a pill bug in the pocket. For you to say you did not want a running QB is revisionist history. You must’ve been a cornerback, they say CBs need a short memory! LOL!
I wanted QB with a big arm. I never said shoit about his being or me wanting a dual-threat QB. My position has ALWAYS been they use him as a pocket passer who can scramble.
I didn’t want Jac Mones because I thought (and still think) Lance’s ceiling is higher.
You must be sniffing NoFear’s glue, Bergs! There’s a difference between a running QB and a mobile QB.
I’ve only said on here 1,000 times that I want Lance to play the way Carroll used RW. Start him in the pocket and go from there. Not to be a fucking college read-option quarterback.
Weak sauce, skippy!

No idea, but the good news is we didn’t draft Mac Jones. He fell to 15 like most of us thought anyway. We drafted the guy I thought we should be targeting all along. Trey Lance. He of the linebacker size and a cannon for an arm. Yes, he’s raw, but you can’t teach size and speed. He’s smart, quick, mobile, and tough. He is very familiar with a pro-style play-action offense and has vast potential.
So, nyyyaaaaaaaah!
He also has some of the worst mechanics I’ve seen in a while. Worse than that, he is inconsistent with his throwing motion too. I’m still rooting for him and hoping I am wrong. He also seems to get injured more often than Jimmy G. I can’t say he gives me many feelings of hope.
BTW, those runs he ran too often were of his own choice. Except for the draws, they were read options. When he runs the play, he always looks to run or hand off. Payton Manning used the play often and would either hand off or pass. He never ran. I hope Lance has the option to pass. Maybe after a broken ankle he will use that option more often.
And the hits just keep on coming…
RB Davis Price has a high ankle sprain and will be out 4-6 weeks! Next up Jordan Mason are the famous Marlon Mack ( chat room legend) who couldn’t cut it in Houston and was released as he couldn’t even beat out Rex Burkhead..
Jesus. Shanny has a knack for drafting RBs that cannot get out of their own way.
I do want to see Mason. I think he’s a stud in waiting.
And killing his QBs of course.
Per Field Yates on twitter
For each game that Jimmy Garoppolo plays at least 25% of the snaps, he earns $250K. If the 49ers win that game, the number jumps to $350K.
As the starter going forward, he now has the chance to earn $5.6M via incentives in the regular season.
Good for Jimmy. Just wonder how long he can last.
Just another gut punch for the Niners losing TDP another RB for an extended time. Yeah maybe they give Jordan Mason some looks?call up Marlon Mack from practice squad? are bring in a couple of 30 year old Mark Wahlberg bartenders from the streets, but I can easily see Scam a sham giving fifty-fifty splits with Samuel&Wilson in the backfield now before Samuel blows out a knee, and a dislocated shoulder on the same play..
I don’t see Mack playing yet. Cut by Houston? Yeesh.
The line looked good at least. But Seattle is no world beater. But we better not make RW look like the RW of old. He’s not hitting the deep passes anymore, and he doesn’t throw over the middle well either.
Denver is another easy game. We just have to somehow keep Jimmy absolutely healthy because ANY setback with him and he’s out of whack.
Been listening to a lot of stuff like this again. Always makes me feel good.
New thread.
