Deeeeeeeeeebo Signs!!!!

I thought this would happen the way it did. and it did. We didn’t lose Jimmy yet, but Deebo got a 3 year, $73 million extension. All the media BS and the blathering going on now about why did they wait so long, Deebo wants out, yadda yadda yadda, the deal was he was concerned about how much he was being run. And Shanny wasn’t shy about using him up the middle.

I also think the reason we went RB in round 2 was a direct result of making Deebo see that the team was serious about getting and fielding a deep enough RB corps so he won’t be run up the middle 10 times a game. So, we’ll get to do this is again in 3 years, but hey, Deebo is the real deal, and he is imperative to be on the team and hitting all the practices now to get him going with Trey and the offense.

Bring it on!

    Excellent

Deebo Samuel and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed on a massive three-year contract extension worth a max value of $73.5 million to keep the versatile wide receiver in San Francisco for the foreseeable future, according to multiple reports. NFL Network first reported the terms of the deal.

  2. Winder says:

Finally some positive news. I like that it was a 3 year deal.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Yep. We aren’t on the hook for a long time. If he kicks ass and is in the top 5 (or whatever) then he can get his payday with us and he’ll still be under 30.

  4. unca_chuck says:

Niners sign Akeem Spence to replace Maurice Hurst.

Spence has appeared in 110 games with 57 starts, recording 205 total tackles with 19 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, and 35 quarterback hits. Been on a few teams. Washington, Denver, Jags, Miami, and Philly.

First day of pads. Let’s hope we can stay healthy.

Nice recap of yesterday’s practice. See next post…

I will say one thing, if Lance can do anything against our defense, one that is outstanding, AND knows all of our playbook, he should do fine against the rest of the league.

  7. Winder says:

Lance just might be the real deal at least he’s not a diva airhead.

Unca, I’m glad I found this site. I followed and loved your comments on the old SF Gate back in 2006-2009. I can’t remember who the man who constantly trolled you was. Man he was on you left and right. Those were some lean years. But it’s great to find this and be back. Lifelong Niner fan from Minnesota who currently lives in Louisiana. I’m ready to shake off the hangover from last season because that Rams game is still a bad taste in my mouth! Let’s go!

  9. unca_chuck says:

    Welcome back. Been a while…

  10. Winder says:

    This is interesting

NFL suspended Dolphins owner Stephen Ross until October 17 and removed the team’s 2023 first-round pick and 2024 third-round pick for tampering violations.

  11. joshuastnvk says:

I really hope the contract is a good idea. Michael Irvin has been saying Deebo REALLY wanted out of SF. If that’s true, he’ll be a headache once again. Until then, I’m just hoping he stays healthy. I’m a bigger Aiyuk fan than Deebo, but hopefully I’m proved wrong. What have all y’alls feelings been on Shanny? Last year I was about ready to quit, I had enough. But it happened how it said I thought it would. The only way he kept his job was NFC Championship game. I thought Jimmy would have kept his had we gone to the SB. Excited to see this offense without Jimmy though, that’s for sure. Gotta give it to the man and the fact that he wins, but man, hopefully it gets a whole lot easier for the team now that he isn’t playing. He constantly reminded me of Alex Smith. Speak of been a while lol

  12. unca_chuck says:

This deal is perfect for both sides. He gets paid and we aren’t on the hook for 5+ years. Irvin is full of shit. He doesn’t know dick.

I said 6 months ago how this would go down and it went down pretty much as I suspected. Deebo said very little against the team and he and Shanahan get along well enough.

As far as the team goes, I don’t even think a Super Bowl win would have saved Jimmy’s job. He is what he is. Good at times, bad at times, and flat terrible at times. They were gonna move on regardless.

Then again that playoff game exposed Shanahan as someone who continually folds late in high-stakes games. He does not know how to hold onto a lead. The last 2 drives in the NFCCG, Shanny couldn’t get a play off. 5 plays that were ALL broken plays than netted -8 yards. We had the ball for 45 seconds in the last 8:30 of the game.

Utter failure. I don’t know how he gets out of this funk, but there are times when Shanny gets rattled and can’t get his shit together when the game is on the line.

I was Just reading that he had been talking with Deebo and Deebo told him the ‘real reason’ he wanted a trade. But you’re right, the contract is perfect. He gets paid and if he isn’t what he was for 1 out of 3 years, we can move on. And if he is, we can work something out again. I’m really hoping we lock Bosa up for 5+ years. DL seem to perform well into their early 30’s and he needs to be our next BY.

If Jimmy had made the super bowl and won it, I could get behind him. Not many people can say they’ve been to 2 Super Bowls in 4 years and won one, NOT named Brady. But gosh am I glad he’s gone. I know I wanted Mac Jones, but I can honestly say I haven’t been this excited about the niners and QB play in quite some time.

And you hit it on the head with Shanny. He’s gonna have so much talent and not know how to win with it. His problem is he doesn’t have the killer instinct. He calls the same plays that everyone knows are gonna be run and it gets stopped. Or he tries to get too cute. I’m hoping that having someone who can throw the ball downfield can utilize the open receivers. I know that’s the main thing I hear about Shanny, he can get a man wide open. He just needs to keep swinging for the fence. Remember week one last year when we almost blew a 30 point lead to the second worst team in the league?? That can’t happen. I will say if he doesn’t have us playing playoff football and we miss them for whatever reason, he’s got to go.

Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, Mitchel/Price..our OL is gonna be good.Maybe not fantastic, but good. I think our D is what is going to rock the world and take people by surprise. I’d say this is a top 5 talent team since ’94.

  13. joshuastnvk says:

I agree about the contract. It’s the perfect size and he gets paid. I really hope we lock Bosa up for 5+ though. DL tend to be solid in their early 30’s as well.

A super bowl win would have been real interesting. Jimmy is garbage. But not many people have gone to two Super Bowls in 4 years NOT named Brady.

Shanny needs to figure it out. He gets too soft with a lead, even if it’s 10 points. It’s like he doesn’t possess that killer instinct once he has a lead. Anything less than the playoffs this season or he needs to go.

Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, Mitchell/Price and our OL will be solid. Not great, but they’ll be good. Our Defense is gonna surprise a lot of people. I wouldn’t be surprised if we led the league in takeaways and picks at the end of the year. Barring health, of course. This roster may be one of the top 5 preseason rosters we’ve had since the ’94 season.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Bosa will get the bigger longer deal. Aiyuk comes up next year I think, so he’ll want his taste as well.

The Shanny thing is baffling because Shanny is a good play caller and he can exploit matchups pretty well. The Falcon Super Bowl was just insanely bad though. Esp the drive where they were in FG range and just simply had to run the ball a couple times, kick the FG, and walk away with the Lombardi. Instead, he goes pass happy and sack, holding call, incomplete, and boom. Out of FG range and the rest was history.

Some of the KC Super Bowl fuckup was on Jimmy G, and a couple blatant missed holding calls on Bosa, but in the end, Shanahan passed on nearly every down when we were up 20-10. Quick pointless drives and quick punts.

The NFCCG? Same thing. Except by then, Shanny was completely done and couldn’t even get a play off on the last 2 drives. The previous drive it was 2nd and 1 at midfield. Here, they DO run, and LA stuffs 2 runs for 0 yards and a delay of game. The decision not to go for it there will always be out there, but if that was the intent, they should have run play action somewhere in those plays. But they didn’t and that was the game as the 49ers had the ball for a grand total of 34 seconds after that punt in the last 10 minutes of the 4th quarter. Shanny has MAJOR tendencies to force the run at times and force the pass at others. And defenses seem to know that. Deebo barely touched the ball in the 2nd half, and we didn’t run ANY misdirection plays. They worked in the 1st half so naturally Shanny stopped them, NOT the Rams.

My biggest issue with Shanny’s coaching style is he is often the one to stop the offense by going away from what is working and trying to get too methodical. Or cute.

The one thing about Bill Walsh that I totally loved was, if he found a weakness, he would exploit that weakness until the other team stopped it. And then he would change that same play type to exploit it differently. Shanny finds plays that work, and simply stops running them.

  15. joshuastnvk says:

He is a great play caller. And the thing you see and hear is just how wide open our players are. He has an ability to call the perfect routes for the WR to get open. We’ve just never had a QB this century that could hit them. I thought Jimmy was gonna be our savior, but that man never got better. He was like the same damn player when he came in week 14 in 2017. But enough of him already, we can let that stuff go, finally.

I will say, since no one in my circle has a clue about what I’m talking about, I always wished CJ Beatherd got a shot. I know he essentially did, but he seemed to be decent. I liked the way he threw and he seemed like a football player. He was just a backup and nothing went right the seasons he played. I would have liked to see him run with the 1’s and see what’s what. I remember the 2018 season opener again KC when Jimmy went down. CJ came in and threw a ball on the money to Kittle for a TD that of course got wiped by an OPA call. He’s always seemed like a gamer.

That’s exactly it about Shanny. Like you pointed out, he literally just quits running stuff that works. He gets too cute and tries too hard when he’s already found a way. The thing that worries me is he isn’t going to change. Do we have any reason to think that he’s been this way since his ATL days and anything is going to change? He seems to be rocking an every other year playoff team and if we miss the playoffs this year, injuries or not, that man needs to go.

  16. joshuastnvk says:

I always wanted CJ Beathard to get a shot. He always seemed like a gamer. He only played when our roster was beaten down and shitty. I always thought he would have excelled with the 1’s. Sad we let him walk.

Do we think that Shanny can change? He’s been this way since his ATL days. If we miss the playoffs or get eliminated in the WC, he needs to go. I’m getting tired of his stuff just as much as Jimmy’s!

  17. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, this is gonna be interesting. I’m not sold on Shanny at all having gone this far with him.

He’s had some good games but also some head-scratchers.

  18. Lurker John says:

Shanahan couldn’t carry Walsh’s sweaty jockstrap on his best day. Walsh had everything Shanahan doesn’t as an NFL head coach. I like the guy, but it’s getting really close to put up or shut up time for him. Like this season. Until he proves he can win the biggest games, he’ll always be middle of the road. Seems to me he’s his own worst enemy.

  19. joshuastnvk says:

It is put up or shut up time for the man. I thought that last year. I’m not completely down on Lynch so he can stick around unless someone amazing is out there. But we need AT LEAST an NFC championship for Shanny to keep his job, in my opinion.

  20. unca_chuck says:

Yep. I was pissed beyond reason when I saw what Shanahan did with Lance in that first game against AZ.

The Texans game was better, but Shanny has a way of going to the same well too many times. By the end of the NFCCG I was done. But there is no way they make a switch now. If this season somehow goes sideways he SHOULD feel the heat.

  21. unca_chuck says:

Big Dick Nick fumbles his first play with the Raiders. Arden Key gets a sack for the Jags.

But BDN hits a nice medium crosser.
