Here We Go Again

This is like a trip down memory lane what with us playing Dallas and now Green Bay in the playoffs. Both these teams were our nemeses at different times in our distant past, and our recent. Aaron Rodgers sure knows who we are as we are 3-0 against him in our last 3 playoff tilts. Colin Kaepernick got the first two wins in 2012 and 2013 running all over the GB defense, and Jimmy G spent most of the 2019 win handing the ball off to Raheem Mostert.

A strategy that may not be a bad idea after seeing that 4th quarter yesterday. Unlike the Rams game, where Jimmy actually did well, he: a) missed a wide open Brandon Aiyuk for what would have been a 40 yard gain, b) threw an absolute choke job of a pick later in the 4th quarter, and c) didn’t let Trent Williams get set on the 4th and 1 sneak that would have, again, sealed the win.

Instead we got to see Mike McCarthy pull a stupid running play with 14 seconds left. This was nearly outdone by Ryans ludicrously stupid defense in not protecting the sidelines when Dallas got the ball with 32 seconds left. Ryans played this defense like he should have way back in the Green Bay game he blew. In not protecting the sidelines, Dallas was able to stop the clock on every throw. Once we moved the safeties and corners to the sides, Dak ran up the middle.

This could have worked for one more Dallas play if: a) Dak had slid earlier, b) the Cowboys let the ref spot the ball, and c) didn’t get in the ref’s way as he DID try to spot the ball.

All in all a bizarre ending to what was a great game by the Niners. Our propensity to let teams back into games is pretty fucking annoying, and this one would have been an epic disaster to lose.

More annoying to me is as the game was nearing the end, Shanahan was playing the game like he was behind 6, not ahead by 6. Throwing on 1st down is great early in the game when team expect us to run. Throwing late in the 4th quarter when protecting a lead is not so good when Jimmy is unraveling before your eyes. The shit pass to Kittle was luckily so shitty that the subsequent fumble didn’t count.

Fuck! But I am not here to bury Jimmy but to praise him. Not really. Fuck, I don’t know. Just play a clean game next week. OK?

Real funny thing is, I thought with everyone getting healthy, Josh Norman wouldn’t be able to fuck anything up, but lo and behold, Norman was the gunner assigned to block the outside guy, CJ Goodwin on the fake punt. As Norman ran away from him, their punter completed a 16 yard pass to Goodwin. Derp! Even more luckily, that didn’t result in a TD. Christ. I’m too old for this shit. I sure miss the days when we just steamrolled through the playoffs.

Should be a fun game tonight. I think the Rams beat up on the Cards.

  2. Berger says:

Unca Chucks Burial Service, LLC. LOL!

I like Arizona they’re certainly is no field advantage for the Rams as a sea of Cardinals red will be apparent even if Stafford’s wife is lol pleading not to sell your tickets to Arizona fans..
Cardinals only lost 1 road game all year and Murray’s going to come out loose and running over the uptight Rams..
Typical Cowboys players and fans still feeling they got shafted by the refs when they don’t even know the rules after a stupid run call that the ref has to touch the ball first before a play can startup again and the Cowboys were bunched together to stop him from getting to the ball! They’re just dumbshits and especially McCarthy and Moore calling up that play and both should be fired!!DC Dan Quinn will probably get the gig now before Dallas loses him to another team as HC..This loss will sting for along time, so yeah Fuck them Whiny 😫 Cowboys!! Oh and Btw..really classy Cowboys fans throwing beer bottles at players and the refs leaving the field( shades of Kezar with Brodie and that could be before and after the game lol)

    • unca_chuck says:

Yep. Saw a few games at Kezar and the crowd was rowdy as hell. Our next door neighbor had season tickets in the east end zone. Saw the Colts and the Packers in 1969. 8 years old and going to the pisser was crazy. It was like going back in time to some sort of ancient Roman cesspool. Moss on the walls, drunk fucking weirdos, and God help me my eyes and nose still burn.

  4. Winder says:

The only reason I like the rams in this one is their Dline. Should be a real close game I just hope they beat each other up.

  5. unca_chuck says:

Funny thing is, we are guaranteed to go further than one of the teams in front of us in the West!!

There used to be rules about teams in the same division meeting up in the first 2 rounds. Not anymore. That’s why we’ve played the Rams once in the playoffs and never any other team in our division.

  6. Irish Kevin says:

That’s the thing when a WR catches a pass late in a game you see him running towards a ref to give the ball. If they actually practiced that play why didn’t Dak know to find a ref. All on Dak.

    • unca_chuck says:

Yep. I was amazed they ran the ball. But I thought they were gonna get another play. Not sure what would have happened, but a PI was on my mind.

  7. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, pretty much what I thought would happen. This game is already out of hand. Kyler looked like Ron Jaworsi on that pass.

  8. Irish Kevin says:

Yikes Rams came to play, not sure what the Cards are doing

  9. unca_chuck says:

Maybe they fold up in the 2nd half like last week!!

  10. alleykat69 says:

Didn’t expect Kyler to turn into total trash 🗑
Bet he wished he played baseball right now⚾️

  11. unca_chuck says:

AZ looks like the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. Jesus. Another pick.

  12. NJ49ER says:

    Formula for success?
    Deebo
    Deefense.

Good chance it’s gonna be cold in GB this weekend huh?
Our future QB played in ND.
Good chance he’s used to handling a cold pigskin?

Given the thumb staus of Jimmeh Pickolo, I’d have a package inserted for Trey, just to give LaFleur & Co a wrinkle they haven’t seen.

    • unca_chuck says:

      Well, Jimmy played in NE.

      • NJ49ER says:

Not regularly or as a Playoff starter with a bum thumb.
I call it a handicap at this point.

Trey is an unexpected obstacle for their DC if nothing else.

In a 1 & done frozen environment scenario, I’ll give the kid with the better grip at least a package to fuck with their D.

  13. Lurker John says:

I just read a report that JG now also has a mild right shoulder sprain from yesterday’s game, but is expected to practice on Wednesday. The guy gets hurt taking a shit.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Bummed we are playing Saturday. One less day for Bosa to recover.

  15. unca_chuck says:

Man, I guess our line is better than I thought after watching AZ get crushed last night. The Niners and Jimmy were under pressure last week, but nothing like the onslaught faced by Kyler and co.

  16. Lurker John says:

Matt Maiocco said he spoke with Bosa’s father right after the game and he said his son would be fine for the Packers game. That and $6 will get you a mediocre cup of coffee at Starbucks, but it’s something. Warner is also insisting he’ll play.

I think you’d have to hogtie both of them to keep them out of this game. As with the Cowboys game, many “experts” are picking the Packers. The NIners are playing with house money and have nothing to lose.

  17. Lurker John says:

The obvious key is that the 49ers will have to keep Rodgers on the sideline as much as possible by running the hell out of the ball. They did it against the Rams and they did it against the Cowboys. We’ll see what happens in Green Bay.

  18. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, the NFC Championship game 2 years ago we ran the ball early and often and beat them down. The misdirection Deebo runs may work well if they overpursue.

    • Winder says:

I hope the GB ground crew doesn’t fuck with the the grass. They make it to slippery it will affect us more than them

      • Winder says:

The High for Saturday in GB is supposed to be 22 low is -1 and snow. This might be a difficult game for everyone.

  19. unca_chuck says:

Winds 10 to 15. That will be the issue. If theams are throwing it’s gonna get squirrely. That may not be too bad inside the stadium tho.

  20. unca_chuck says:

22 and snow in the day. -1 and wind at night. Rather be playing in the day. Stupid fucking NFL schedulers.

  21. Lurker John says:

Of all the venues in this round, playing a night game at Lambeau in the middle of January has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. WTF are they thinking.

  22. alleykat69 says:

Well the Packers organization replaced the whole field back in 2018 and they have heated coils under the turf so maybe that will help make the field more playable. Yeah it’s going to be one mother fucking cold game, swirling winds, hopefully no snow flurries, but for sure it won’t turn into the 1967 ICE BOWL game between GB/Dallas still the standard imo of alltime horrible conditions..

    • unca_chuck says:

They had hot water pipes under the field even then that they didn’t bother to turn on.

      Oooops

      • Winder says:

I think every homefield does something to help the home team. I know we used to do it at Candlestick. IIRC we used to keep the infield dirt a little wet so Wills would be slowed a little.

  23. Irish Kevin says:

So how many of you could sit on the sidelines for 3+ hours in 12 degree weather

    • Irish Kevin says:

Well about the only good thing would be your beer never gets warm, personally I wouldn’t last more than 20 mins. Stay home warm, see every play and replay

    • Winder says:

I doubt we will see much red in the stands. But, it would probably make for a very rememberful(not a word) game.

  24. unca_chuck says:

Funny thing is is I ALMOST went to the Monday night game in Denver where Ray Wersching was nearly pelted by a a snowball and missed the winning kick. I was living in Snowmass, and the drive would have been 7 hours. Had a place to stay for the night, but the tickets fell through at the last minute and I didn’t want to drive all the way out there to scalp.

  25. Winder says:

looks like we are gonna lose Peters to the Giants. They have asked for a 2nd interview for their GM job. That is not good for us.

  26. Winder says:

Looks like a good possibility we lose Peters to the Giants for their GM job. Pretty sure he orchestrated much of our drafts since 2017.

  27. unca_chuck says:

High round picks or low round picks? He’s been all over the place.

    • Winder says:

Not sure who his picks were. But I bet they weren’t Solomon, or Foster. Those are Lynch’s. And also pretty sure Pettis was Shanny’s as was Williams. Between Peters and Mchew(sp) they were the ones teaching Lynch how to do it.
