A New Dawn!

Well, I was bummed that the team wouldn’t make the switch after yet another deflating performance by Jimmy G, but he done and gone hurt his thumb somehow. Sources say John Lynch was seen walking out of the training room with a hammer in his hand that he quickly threw away, but it is not verifiable. The tweet did go out however.

So, here we go, ready or not. The Trey Lance era will begin. Jimmy G’s torn thumb ligament and bone chip will keep him out for the rest of his contract, so he leaves the team on a sour note. But we have not come here to praise Garoppolo, but to bury him. The team and its middling playoff hopes now are in the hands of Trey Lance.

A playoff scenario that as of now we are not in control of. We are still a decent shot to get in, but should the Niners, the Eagles, and the Saints all win out and go 10-7, we somehow lose the tiebreaker despite our win over the Eagles. If the Saints lose, I think we have a much bigger shot to get in.

But hey, before I found out Jimmy got hurt, I wondered what would happen if we made the switch anyway. Jimmy obviously wasn’t consistent enough to take us far in the playoffs, and the thought was just make the switch, playoffs be damned. Let Lance take the wheel and drive.

So here we are. Let the fun begin. I just hope Shanny doesn’t get Lance killed by playing him wrong.

pretty sure if that doesn’t heal by March 1 we are on the hook for his 2022 salary….

    • unca_chuck says:

Shit, he’ll be healed mid-Feb at the latest. Then he’s traded/cut. He’s only gonna be a 1.4 mill cap hit. We’d get back 25.4 mill of his 27 mill salary.

The hope was he’d play well and we’d get a 2. Don’t see it now.

Maybe Belichick gets his guy back and we get a 3 and a 5.

  2. Berger says:

I hope Shanny doesn’t use Lance as a throwing RB again. A 3rd overall pick should be relied on to throw the ball.

  3. Irish Kevin says:

Hopefully he uses him like Mahomes

Just another easy excuse with Jimmy’s poor 2nd half performance with the thumb injury to ride out in the sunset with an injury plagued career on the sidelines!

I’ve heard from Bosa, Warner, and now Shanny say how well Lance has been doing lately.

That’s all well and good, but I’m real leery of how Shanny plays Lance. His first go-around was spectacularly awful. Completely tone-deaf. There’s no other way to say it, other than to think he was trying to get back at Lynch for forcing the deal to not pick Jones. So he tried to kill Lance. I don’t see ANY sense in risking your future quarterback that way in his first game as a pro.

This season has really soured me on Shanahan in a big way. Like Harbaugh before him, he acts like no one can understand his genius and that he always the smartest guy in the room.

    • Berger says:

What makes you think it was Lynch who wanted him so badly? I heard it was Shanahan who was the driver of that situation.

    • Irish Kevin says:

Do you think it is because Kyle has watched Brady so much that he wants a pocket passer he will have till the QB is 40 years old and still playing. Ha ha Brady like all the great QBs are one of a kind.

  6. alleykat69 says:

Jaguars just don’t get it as a organization. After taking forever to dump a useless Oscar Weiner Meyer, they decide for some dumb reason to retain GM Trent Baakle ??? Hey maybe he goes out now and gets Jim Harbaugh they have such a good working relationship right?? Lol 😂

  7. Winder says:

They gotta teach Lance to throw the ball away instead of trying to make a play with his legs. He has to be a throwing QB and only use his legs like Montana used to. And, i don’t mean throw the ball away like A. Smith used to do.

  8. Berger says:

I’ve got a new saying for the current 49ers situation. I stole it from a guy named Hendrix. ‘Move over Jimmy and let Rover take over.’ FYI, Rover is Trey Lance, can we say he is some Crosstown Traffic right now!

  9. 12th Man says:

Shanahan says Jimmy G has a strained thumb (not fractured etc), may be able to practice this week.

Personally I’ve seen enough of good Jimmy/bad Jimmy, I want to see what Lance has to offer.

    • NJ49ER says:

Right there with you 12th Man.
Jimmeh = Jim Everett 2.0 in my book.
No heart, no balls, no killer instinct which all adds up to a guy that can’t lead.
A point man has to see a way to win the battle.
Jimmeh sees it as completing the play call.
      Robo- Jimmeh.

  10. Irish Kevin says:

John Madden RIP, sad day in football! Quite possibly the greatest announcer ever

  11. NJ49ER says:

    BOOM!
    Reality hits home.
    RIP JM

  12. Winder says:

Madden was always a pleasure to listen to and was probably the best thing to ever happen to the Raiders. RIP.

  13. unca_chuck says:

Madden made the Raiders tolerable to me. Never likes the Raiders but Madden was the man. Dude was all-in all the time.

  14. unca_chuck says:

RIP, Mr Madden. New thread is up.
