Might as well be now what with both our quarterbacks being hurt, and Kyle Shanahan’s hell-bent mission to get Nate Sudfeld on the field, and to coach himself out of his current job. Bummed about the Giants and how the season ended, but the bats went cold at the wrong time and the usual horrible umpiring. How Angel Hernandez gets a playoff nod is baffling to say the least. He’s year after year the worst at calling balls and strikes.
Anyhow, the football season is ready to spiral out of control as well, so this could be another long season of disappointment. Shanahan is not coaching well, and his play calling leaves a lot to be desired. I get being aggressive on 4th down, but you’d damn well do better 1 for 5 on 4th down. And 3 for 11 on 3rd down, for that matter. Shanny even said the play to Juice on the sneak was blown somehow. Yeah, it was blown because AZ saw the earlier tape and loaded the middle when they made the shift. Whatevs.
Point being, we are once again in flux as jimmy g was not playing very well before his injury, Shanny tried to kill his newly drafted QB, and the O line is still fairly porous in pass pro. We are 5 years into this current regime, and the team has no offensive identity, all the RBs are hurt again, and our WRs are either hurt or underused. Kittle is hurt again. Aiyuk is in the invisible doghouse, Samuel is doing well, but no one else has stepped up.
The season is early, and we have some fluff coming up, but we also have AZ again, and our first Ram game. These next 3 games will determine a lot the season. Beat the Cards and Rams and we are at least in the vicinity of the top. Otherwise, it is another lost season of disarray and disappointment.
And likely a coaching change.
Rams play the Giants in the house of horrors that is New Jersey, AZ plays the Browns on the road so there’s some hope there, andthe scuffling Seahawks play the scuffling Steelers on the road as well, so the hope is these home teams take care of business.
Seattle without Russ is a plus.
Shanny better circle the wagons this week and get this Offense into gear.
Gotta take the next 2 before we meet the NFCW games, otherwise we’re on the outside looking for help.
Kingsbury with a Covid absence today too.
Go Brownie’s.
Hey Chuck–wondering where you rank Greg Roman for Niners O Co.
Man, I tell you one thing. We are seeing the fallout of the love affair with going on 4th down. I;ve seen about 12 blown 4th down attempts just today. I’d say 8 of them sacrificed going for the 3.
Roman is the same as what we have. A run-heavy play action guy. When you have a dominant run game it works. When you don’t, it don’t. I was annoyed by Roman under Harbaugh. Beyond that, Kyle is not going to hire an OC.
We need to find someone who has a much more wide open approach.. 4-5 WR sets. Deeper routes. Better pass pro.
The NFL is ridiculous. These penalties just are way too fucking game-changing. All the time. .Every damn game. A pass rusher touches Kyler Murray, and it changes what would have been 4th down to 1st and goal. A BS PI call and a BS holding call. All these on the same drive. The offense has gotrtn 28 yars, and 42 on penalties.
Every game there are game-altering calls.
In 2017, McDaniel was hired by the San Francisco 49ers as their run game coordinator under head coach Kyle Shanahan. On January 18, 2021, McDaniel was promoted to offensive coordinator, following the departure of passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur, who left to become the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.
Seems as though LaFleurs’ loss has been the hurdle for our passing game?
McDaniel is one of Shanny’s lackeys. Kyle is the OC. He calls the plays. He’s the problem.
Buck stops with Shanny.
McDaniel fits the Shanny run resume. It’s obvious to me, the passing game coordinator is the barren tundra, since LaFleur left.
Jimmy isn’t the passing game answer either, though he is more adept at handling the Offense at this point in time.
My interest in the season hinges on the next 2 weeks. If they don’t find some answers on Offense against Indy and Chicago, I’m not going to hold much hope for the NFCW matchups, let alone our Playoff chances.
It’s the accumulation of a bunch of shitty draft picks. We have no depth and very little talent anywhere. Once again when Mostert went down so did our run game. He’s pretty much the only rb we have that can outrun most defenses. I have been losing faith in Shanny for awhile now but those missed 4th down calls was the icing on the cake. And what the fuck is he running Lance up the middle so often for. It will surely wreck him and his career if he continues to do that. We should just start Sudfield(sp) untill Jimmy gets back and concentrate on Lances passing skills. He needs to be NFL ready for that if he is gonna succeed. Anyway, we are already done this year. The only way we come close to any playoffs is if both Murray and the Rams qb get hurt. I don’t think Jed will fire either Shanny or Lynch until their contract play out next year. at a fucking mess we are.
What
The one thing this team needs to do immediately is spread the field more. No more 2 WR/1 TE sets. Or God forbid, 2 RB sets. We are our own worst enemy in clearing passing lanes and getting WRs open. We play everything close to the line on quick outs or screens behind the line. They are covered easily and there is little chance for running after the catch because of all the congestion.
We need 3 WRs+ on any given play. And Jimmy needs to get the ball out faster. 5 step drop, throw the ball. Quicken the pace. It pisses me off that they can’t see this. Over and over.
And throw a deep ball to a WR on occasion. NOT Kittle or Juice.
We really miss Bourne.
Jimmy can’t pull the trigger Chuck.
He also can’t throw a deep ball.
Other than that…..
Well, he’s got to learn quick otherwise Lance should just be made the starter for the Bears game and beyond. There’s little reason to try and squeeze out any decent play from Jimmy when we ain’t getting any now.
Hard to see the upside when Jimmy is a lame duck.
Hope I’m wrong but, the ‘it’ factor has never been obvious to me when Jimmy is involved.
Sanders was killing it for the Bills tonight. And funny I mentioned the love of going on 4rh down and Buffalo goes ahead and loses instead of kicking the thing FG.
I’m going to the Colts game and expect to see a win.
I was at the Packers and the Seahawks games too and I’m a bit surprised by the reaction here to those games. Yes they were losses but played hard and even with the screw-ups the Niners easily could have (should have) won.
Lose the Colts game and for all intents and purposes it becomes Lance time. I just don’t see that happening.
Go Niners!
Well, that IS the problem. They should have won both of those, but didn’t. Even the AZ game was winnable but for mistakes and penalties.
The disappointing thing to me about the GB game was Shanahan lost that one with bad time management, and Ryans’ prevent defense. They HAD to know that simply giving Rodgers the ball with time and no pressure would bite them in the ass and it did. ONE sack on that last drive would pretty much seal the deal, but we laid back and left the middle of the field open. Stupid stupid stupid.
For the most part I’m happy with the defense though. They have played well enough to be 4-1.
The offense is a clusterfuck of shitty play calls, poor execution, and holding penalties. This is year 5 of Shanahan and we are flailing. This offense has no identity and we can’t pass the ball further than 8 yards.
New thread is up.
