Strange and weird as it will be, we have an actual sports related event that hasn’t been cancelled. The NFL Draft! As with most drafts, there are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks. And most are near the top of the board. The Bengals, Chargers, Dolphins, Jags, Broncos, and the Brady-less Patriots. The guys likely to go in the 1st round are: Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love.
All but the Broncos and Pats draft in front of us, so that should give us the ability to get a wide out. The good news for us of course is that this is a huge draft for wide receiver. The top 4 there are Jerry Jeudy, Cee Dee Lamb, Henry Ruggs, and Justin Jefferson. All of these guys look like they could step right in and be productive.
At 13 though, JJ, CD, and Ruggs could all be gone. If that is the case, we could very well drop out of the 13th spot, and still get Justin Jefferson. An intriguing idea, but if we do that we very well could pass up Florida corner CJ Henderson. Cornerback of course is our other glaring need.
Still and all, i think we are in a position to fill a spot of need rather that trying to get more picks. As I said, I could see us trade down to get more picks and still get a top-flight WR in Jefferson, but the haul for 13 would be the determining factor.
A risky move, and we can still get a corner with our 31st pick, so it is one that is surely on the table, but we will see. So, the team is in great shape, we look to fill holes with our 2 first round picks, we have a boatload of talent, and with the recent success under our belts the team stands to get better.
Can’t wait.
Good evening gentleman, I have always said the draft is a crap shoot. All teams are looking for that diamond in the rough. Jerry Rice always comes to mind, I know back when he was drafted everyone I knew said who the hell is Jerry Rice. So no guarantees, hope for the best, and roll the dice. Most of us last year did not project the Niners to go to the SB, for me I was hoping for 8-8 last year. So let’s see how these draft choice work out. Hopefully there will be a season!!!
I guess I am about as jazzed as I could hope to be with what we did. i didn’t like getting rid of that 4th though but if they thought he was worth it then he probably is. Time will tell. Well Fuck we don’t get another pick until Saturday.
Yeah, the one thing I don’t like is it looks like we could have gotten Aiyuk at 31 anyway. We don’t hear any behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on until after the dust settles, like the Niners KNEW that Dallas was going to take Jerry Rice with the 17th pick, so Walsh jumped in front of them at 16 to get him.
Not sure why we had to sell the farm to jump 6 spots but it could have been something like that. Still and all there are still a bunch of good WRs available.Mims, Claypool, and Hiuggns.
Right now B grade at best..
i would give the Kinlaw pick an A. He was supposed to be long gone by 14. But like all picks we won’t really know until they hit the field. But, it looks like we might have another deebo in Aiyuk.
In what use to be a premier position in the past Running Backs are a dying breed.Looking inside the homes of Dobbins,Swift,Taylor they look like morgues , as they’re big money contracts disappear..
Great first round. Many had Kinlaw ahead of brown. I didn’t. Still, when I watch Kinlaw he reminds me of Chris Jones. I wanted Jeudy but IMO defensive lines win championships. I’m happy with the pick.
Aiyuk reminds me of Deebo Samuel. He catches the ball and runs like a RB. He also has a 40 inch vertical with an 81 inch wingspan. He had more YAC than Ruggs. For him they called it YAK, Yards After King. This guy is a threat to take it to the house every time he gets in space.
I agree with everything Winder said here and also agree with Chuck that I didn’t think we needed to move up to get Aiyuk but you never know. I think we hit a home run today.
I forgot to mention, Aiyuk is from McQueen High in Reno! I like that!
Good stuff, Bergs. Shanny even said he would have taken Aiyuk at 13 if Kinlaw wasn’t there. That would have pissed me off royally.
Me too. But the more I see and read bout Aiyuk I can see what they like. He ran a 4.5 while battling a core muscle injury. Most players would not have even run the 40. He’s a gamer.
And get a load of a 40 inch vertical with 81 ich wingspan! What a great vertical usually means is the guy is really quick.
With a 40 inch jump and 81 inch arms you expect he can reach a lot of balls thrown just a little high or to the side. We won’t know shit till we see him on the field, but he sounds like he can play.
