Strange and weird as it will be, we have an actual sports related event that hasn’t been cancelled. The NFL Draft! As with most drafts, there are a lot of teams that need quarterbacks. And most are near the top of the board. The Bengals, Chargers, Dolphins, Jags, Broncos, and the Brady-less Patriots. The guys likely to go in the 1st round are: Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love.
All but the Broncos and Pats draft in front of us, so that should give us the ability to get a wide out. The good news for us of course is that this is a huge draft for wide receiver. The top 4 there are Jerry Jeudy, Cee Dee Lamb, Henry Ruggs, and Justin Jefferson. All of these guys look like they could step right in and be productive.
At 13 though, JJ, CD, and Ruggs could all be gone. If that is the case, we could very well drop out of the 13th spot, and still get Justin Jefferson. An intriguing idea, but if we do that we very well could pass up Florida corner CJ Henderson. Cornerback of course is our other glaring need.
Still and all, i think we are in a position to fill a spot of need rather that trying to get more picks. As I said, I could see us trade down to get more picks and still get a top-flight WR in Jefferson, but the haul for 13 would be the determining factor.
A risky move, and we can still get a corner with our 31st pick, so it is one that is surely on the table, but we will see. So, the team is in great shape, we look to fill holes with our 2 first round picks, we have a boatload of talent, and with the recent success under our belts the team stands to get better.
Can’t wait.
No surprises yet. Once Detroit picks, we’ll see.
A dark horse pick for us is OT Mekhi Becton.
1st reach goes to the Giants..
Yep. I wonder if we may go O line as well. Staley is good, but he struggled at times. Still and all, the bigger needs are WR/CB.
It’s the middle of the draft and there’s only three comments? And we still have a long way to go before we know which punter the Niners will pick tonight.
Well, skeebs, you have none.
The only surprise is the Giants tackle. So far.
Didn’t see that. Henderson is off the board.
Think we get Ruggs now.
Wirfs was projected at 4 in some mocks. But Lamb or Ruggs is ours.
here we go
wirth or kinlaw
Well not Ruggs Screw you Raiders!
But hell Jeudy are Lamb you can’t go wrong!
I’ll say Juedy now!!
Maybe Wirth too Winder
Ooops. No Ruggs. Jeudy, I hope.
We have our pick of Jeudy or Lamb. Both Blue Chip WRs who should be valid #1s.
Kinlaw is a no. You don’t trade a pro bowl player and get the same spot in the draft.
Well, I wouldn’t.
Trading down one slot?
Wow. TB wants Wirf so we get their 14th and I don’t know what.
they need to protect Brady
No way TB takes a WR. I hope we get something good for nothing, really.
I bet we trade back with denver next
No. Denver wants wideouts. At least I hope not. Didn’t see this shit coming.
OK. That’s cool. But what do we get for the swap? I’d be happy with a 3rd rounder.
me too
even if we trade back again we can still get Kinlaw denver wants a wr.
We got 117 (4th) for moving back one slot. Shades of Trubisky.
Ahh. Cool. Cost us nothing. Are we trading down again?
I think Lynch is open to it, but the price should be set way high. I’d rather take Lamb myself.
Pick is in…
Surprise to me. It’s Kinlaw.
Fuck. Don;t like this. We traded to save money. Oh well.
chuck- he’s a beast.
Kinlaw
At this point we should trade up to get Jefferson.
We will still get a top notch WR
So 31 will be either WR, CB, or OL. Or we trade for a 2 and a 3.
How much did Kinlaw wanting to come here and talking up team chemistry matter I wonder?
Yeah I’m bummed 🙁 some.Stop stroking Saleh Shanny! Just stunned with Lamb&Juedy your choice and you pass on a playmaker?
Damn. I’m bummed but there are a lot of WRs out there. But not this one.
So you replace Buckner with a cheaper version in Kinlaw, I get that but normally a team won’t do that.
You still had a pretty solid front,Boss,AA,Ford,Thomas,Blair?
You have to WR are CB next right? Unless they trade out.
Speaking of what was the other pick we got out of Bucs??
a 4th
we just couldn’t afford Buckner so we did the next best thing
I just wish we could have traded back with denver
A possibility the Raiders Fucked the 49ers by taking Ruggs and they just weren’t as high on Lamb& Juedy Judy Judy which was a great clip Chuck! Goober&Gomer lmao 🤣
Yeah, that’s possible. He was the WR I thought would have been the best fit. A pure X guy that we still don’t have.
I’d love to see us trade up for Jefferson. When CD was available, I KNEW he would go to Dallas.
Splashy pick that doesn’t really do a lot of good. They need defense more than offense.
I really don’t think Ruggs was on our radar that much. Jimmy is not a long ball thrower, We hardly used Goodwin who is just as fast. We need another Deebo.
Goodwin isn’t Ruggs. At least I don’t think so.
No he’s not he’s a way better route runner than Goodwin is. The only time jimmy throws over 25 yards is when he’s out of the pocket and he does that now and again. i could be totally wrong and SF loved Ruggs I just don’t see how he would really be productive for us. But I am wrong most of the time with this stuff.
Until finally last year when Deebo Samuels turned into a solid player, the 49ers either draft a bust are too old to make a solid impact..
This year they had the choice of the best future all-pro playmaking receivers(except Ruggs) and they pass? I’m sure eventually I’ll enjoy Kinlaw’s play it’s just not the sexy pick I wanted..
Kat- i hear you. i love the sexy picks too. and if we had the draft ammo we could have got one of em. i think for what we had we did the best thing for the team. We will see how things turn out in the next couple of years with this crop of WR’s
And they’re goes Jefferson!
Mims is the next guy I’d like to get. 6’3″ and fast.
Ruiz to the Saints.
Traded up to 25, on the clock now!
wow.
Niners trade up! 31, 117, and 225.
Aiyuk. Only 6-0 but long arms.
well we got a WR I just never heard of him
The comparison i just heard was that he’s like a Garcon.
if that is true then he’s a steal
Returned kicks and punts two years after transferring from JC. 3 TDs on returns. Not a burner but productive and still improving. NO 1st round WR is a Can’t-Miss, but he has some upside.
Oh my. The Packers took a QB. Aaron’s not gonna like that.
Brandon Aiyuk. 5′ 11.5″. 81″ wingspan. He’s a x WR at least.
Aiyuk (pronounced EYE-yook) transferred from Sierra College for the 2018 season. He was an all-purpose threat for the Wolverines for two seasons, excelling as a receiver (89 receptions, 1,533 yards, 19 touchdowns in 2016-2017) and returner (two kick return scores, one punt return score in 2017). Sun Devils coaches started him three times in 13 games in his first year in Tempe and he caught 33 passes for 474 yards (14.4 per) and three touchdowns. The former all-state pick at Reno’s McQueen High School also returned kicks (14 returns, 314 yards, 22.4 average) and punts (11 returns, 67 yards, 6.1 average) in his junior season. Aiyuk took his game to another level in 2019, garnering third-team Associated Press All-American and first-team All-Pac-12 honors after leading the Sun Devils with 65 receptions for 1,192 yards (18.3 per) and eight scores. He was also one of the top two-duty returners in the country (14 returns, 226 yards, 16.1 average, one touchdown on punts; 14 returns, 446 yards, 31.9 average on kickoffs). Underwent core muscle surgery on April 7, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
Yeah, hope Aiyuk isn’t as middling as K’Neal Harry. We threw a lot to get him.

Doesn’t seem the diva type of WR who’s going to mess with the locker room.
Good evening gentleman, I have always said the draft is a crap shoot. All teams are looking for that diamond in the rough. Jerry Rice always comes to mind, I know back when he was drafted everyone I knew said who the hell is Jerry Rice. So no guarantees, hope for the best, and roll the dice. Most of us last year did not project the Niners to go to the SB, for me I was hoping for 8-8 last year. So let’s see how these draft choice work out. Hopefully there will be a season!!!
I guess I am about as jazzed as I could hope to be with what we did. i didn’t like getting rid of that 4th though but if they thought he was worth it then he probably is. Time will tell. Well Fuck we don’t get another pick until Saturday.
Yeah, the one thing I don’t like is it looks like we could have gotten Aiyuk at 31 anyway. We don’t hear any behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on until after the dust settles, like the Niners KNEW that Dallas was going to take Jerry Rice with the 17th pick, so Walsh jumped in front of them at 16 to get him.
Not sure why we had to sell the farm to jump 6 spots but it could have been something like that. Still and all there are still a bunch of good WRs available.Mims, Claypool, and Hiuggns.
Right now B grade at best..
i would give the Kinlaw pick an A. He was supposed to be long gone by 14. But like all picks we won’t really know until they hit the field. But, it looks like we might have another deebo in Aiyuk.
In what use to be a premier position in the past Running Backs are a dying breed.Looking inside the homes of Dobbins,Swift,Taylor they look like morgues , as they’re big money contracts disappear..
Great first round. Many had Kinlaw ahead of brown. I didn’t. Still, when I watch Kinlaw he reminds me of Chris Jones. I wanted Jeudy but IMO defensive lines win championships. I’m happy with the pick.
Aiyuk reminds me of Deebo Samuel. He catches the ball and runs like a RB. He also has a 40 inch vertical with an 81 inch wingspan. He had more YAC than Ruggs. For him they called it YAK, Yards After King. This guy is a threat to take it to the house every time he gets in space.
I agree with everything Winder said here and also agree with Chuck that I didn’t think we needed to move up to get Aiyuk but you never know. I think we hit a home run today.
I forgot to mention, Aiyuk is from McQueen High in Reno! I like that!
Good stuff, Bergs. Shanny even said he would have taken Aiyuk at 13 if Kinlaw wasn’t there. That would have pissed me off royally.
Me too. But the more I see and read bout Aiyuk I can see what they like. He ran a 4.5 while battling a core muscle injury. Most players would not have even run the 40. He’s a gamer.
And get a load of a 40 inch vertical with 81 ich wingspan! What a great vertical usually means is the guy is really quick.
With a 40 inch jump and 81 inch arms you expect he can reach a lot of balls thrown just a little high or to the side. We won’t know shit till we see him on the field, but he sounds like he can play.
