The Continuing Saga of Robbie Gould . . .

What a twit. After all the bullshit around the hold out and trade demand, Robbie Gould is hurt. Gould  has been kicking a long time, and has pretty much been one of the better kickers in the NFL lo these 14+ seasons. Thing is, he was revered in Chicago, until he wasn’t. They dumped him in 2016 and he signed a one-year deal with the Giants. He does fine for them but they let him walk. The 49ers sign him in 2017, 2 years for $5 mill. He does great, yes, but then after his 2 stellar seasons here, and his contract is up, he gets all whiny for sweet home Chicago.

Chicago FANS of course want him in the worst way, but the Bears front office already owes a shit-ton of money to their other kickers, and the price of Gould went way up, so without any draft choices they couldn’t trade for him. So, the Niners slap the franchise tag on him. Now Gould formally demands a trade.  Waaaah!

After bickering for a couple months, the finally 49ers offer him $19 mill, with $10 mill guaranteed, and Gould takes the deal. With Gould happy and paid, Gould naturally starts off the season kicking like his leg is made of gold-plated tin and he proceeds to go 13-20 for the season so far.

The low-light of the season being the Cleveland game where Gould was 1-4, and he missed a 53 yard attempt at the end of the first half that didn’t even reach the end zone. It would have been short from 40 yards.

OK, I will give him the Redskins game. The conditions were horrible, and he managed to make 3 of 4 (missed the rist one, though).

Funny thing is, during this winning streak, we haven’t really had to depend on Gould so far. Good thing, because he’s scuffling badly.

The fucked up thing is, from 2015 to 2018, his last season with the Bears, his one year on the Giants, and his 2 with us, he missed 9 FGs (6 in Chi-town, why they tossed him). In 8 games this season, he’s missed 7.

    • Winder says:

A lot of that might just be his supporting cast Wish is now his holder something that he’s never done before at the pro level anyway. And our long-snapper has been suspended for half the fucking season. It’s probably a combination of all that plus Gould himself. I think the party just might be over with him and the Niners. I just hope the new guy doesn’t freak if it’s up to him at the end of the game. It will be a pressure situation. Goat or Hero

  2. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I don’t know. I thought before the season started that the whole Gould thing was kind of a big deal, but now that he’s hurt, the whole thing stinks. He’s been sucking and any number of guys can do better for a lot less.

It ain’t easy, but it ain’t that hard. Just ask Garo Yepremian.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Man, the Raiders defense is pffffffffffffffffffffffffff. This is a game for the laundry.

Must be 25 penalties so far.

  4. unca_chuck says:

Kudos to the Thursday Night crew for playing Shakedown Street on the break . . .

  5. unca_chuck says:

As good as Carr looked last week, he looks like dog shit tonight.

I don’t think a lot of FG kickers are better then Gould.
    Top 5 for me Tucker,Lutz,Zurblein,Buckter,&Gould
After that it’s a crapshoot with a lot of inconsistencies with most teams FG kickers..

  7. alleykat69 says:

Nice drive for the Raiders and Jacobs to take the lead!
Theirs your inconsistency in FG kickers,Carlson missed the extra point to keep it a 2 point game, now Rivers has a minute left to get a chance for a game winning FG..

    • unca_chuck says:

Walsh always said if you are worrying about your kickerm your offense isn’t good enough.

Hey, hopefully Robbie will be back soon. Will he be kicking here in 3 more years?

  8. unca_chuck says:

Hey! The Raiders got enough pressure on Rivers. Didn’t think they’d be in 2nd place in the west at this point in the season,

  9. Grumpy Guy says:

Not every injury makes it into the official report, rules or no. Gould tweaked a little something at the beginning of the season. I really think he’s just not healthy. It only takes a little thing to fuck with the timing of kicking.

  10. Berger says:

It will be good to get Staley and Juice back. Especially Juice. McGlinchey could be back too. Brunskill held in nicely, especially pass blocking but he doesn’t compare as a run blocker. McGlinchey knocks people around in the run game. Skule and Brunskill were exposed in the run game vs the Cardinals. I would sure like to see our run game back on track on Monday. I think that would assure a win if our defense just played average for this season

There has been a few “real test” games up to now, but for me, this is the one true test of the Niners this season and I will be there losing my voice on Monday night.
    Go Niners!

  12. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, we’ve lost 8 of the last 9 meetings so, like the AZ game, we need redemption from the fucking Hawks.

Represent, Andy! Thought about it, almost went with a guy from work, but I think te tix are going to be expensive. You’ll be glad Monday is a holiday.

    • 12th man says:

I upgraded my seats to club seats on the home side this year Chuck, face value is $350 per seat.
I was expecting an improvement this year but got seriously lucky to see these home game wins, like NJ said, win or lose make some noise.
Excited for this game, I think the Niners win by a TD.

      • NJ49er says:

You can’t win a fight if you stop swinging. Home field helps when the 9er fans drown out the visiting schmucks.
I see a tough game here with Kittle likely out of the lineup.
Sanders is a plus, as is Staley, and Juice, potentially back in the mix.
Pound the rock, control the clock.
I simply want 1 more point than Seattle when it ends.

  13. Winder says:

I expect a nail biter Monday. and that’s because Wilson is playing lights out football. I see us winning this one unless we make too many mistakes.

  14. unca_chuck says:

6 tries inside the 2 and the Browns don’t score. Hah!!!! ODB drops a TD.

  15. Winder says:

I still love it when the Rams lose.

  16. unca_chuck says:

Seeing Dallas lose tonight would be a great end to a good day. AZ lost as well.

  17. Jerrreh Jones says:

If America’s team meets the overrated Niners in the playoffs the ‘Boys will crush SF and I’ll be sipping cocktails on my yacht and laughing at all y’all red and gold suckers!

  18. unca_chuck says:

Jerry Jones paying off the refs yet again.

  19. unca_chuck says:

LA, AZ, and the Queersteers lose!

  20. NJ49er says:

    Grab that rabbits foot Jerruh.
Better yet, grab some blow, and a few hookers, then get Blandino and Riveron on the bus before it’s too late.
    Flaming hack.

    • NJ49er says:

The Cowboys sacked Cousins only once. They forced no turnovers. They gave up their third 100-yard rusher of the season.

The Cowboys, who entered the night ranked first in total offense, appear to have a championship offense. They don’t have a championship defense.

  21. unca_chuck says:

Cooper is having a pretty big year. Dak is hot and cold. They are a weird team that just never seems to fully get rolling. Same with their defense. They play great until they miss tackles and commit a ton of penalties and give up points.
