As of now, the 49ers are fairly secure in their quest for the playoffs. After last year’s disastrous injury-filled season was followed by the offseason purge, there was not a lot of hype surrounding this team. At least nationwide. I think here, we had a little better perspective on the success of the team. Mainly because of the revamped coaching staff additions of Robert Saleh and Brant Boyer.
But those plans were severely tested by the injuries to Purdy, Pearsall, Kittle, Bosa, Warner, etc. etc. etc. But here we are at 9-4 and in the thick of it.
If all goes well and we win these next 2, we would be at 11-4 and surely some of these other teams would have stumbled. That will be the point where we can maybe go for the #1 seed. Our test of course will be the Bears and Seattle games. If we get there and win out, we’d need the Rams to drop 2 (Deetroit, Seattle) and the Packers (Chicago) to lose a game to get the 1 seed. Us winning out is predicated on beating Seattle and that would give us the 2-0 advantage.
Without 2 Rams losses, the division is out. The Rams are ahead in the better-record-in- head-to-head games tie-breaker. They are at 9-2 and we are 7-4 with 3 common games remaining. So it looks like the path to the division is a rough one. The Rams would need to drop 2. After that, I don’t think it really matters. We would end up somewhere in the 5-7 seed and be on the road regardless.
I must confess.I’d really like to get the 1 seed improbable as it is.
I am surprised that Stafford has been so good this year the Rams must have drafted really well. If they lose a game in the next two weeks they will be forced to play Stafford the final game. They may have to anyway even if they don’t lose. I think this year we will have to go through the wild card route. And that may not be a bad deal if we don’t get hurt along the way. We just have to play better ball than we have. Kind of excited about Curtis Rourke he can throw the long ball, should be fun no matter what.
I just wish we would get some of our defensive guys back. I’m not sure what the timetable is for all these goddamn injuries, but Bethune and Gross-Matos would be a start. Ferrell and White ain’t half bad but the pass rush really needs to improve.
Whole lot of baseball stuff happening without the Giants making a whimper.
We are ‘in the mix’ for Astro Framber Valdez as of now. He’s a mid-range guy. Do it.
Oh, and we are looking at a trade for Brewer Freddie Peralta. Wake me when it happens.
Yeah we have been pretty quiet this winter. We did pluck a rule 5 catcher from the A’s which should be a nice addition.
As long as it isn’t El Presidente!
So we have Tennessee, get an extra day off play Monday for the Colts, but then we get screwed by having Chicago on Thursday, and then the scheduled shows Seattle is a TBD, I would love to beat Seattle
again
NFL has the Niners as 12.5 point favs

This article pretty much sums up what the Niners need to do, and I still believe what Kittle said, the Niners need to score 30 every single game, due to the defense
@Blade: Hey have you heard from Snarkk? Saw lot of bad weather reports about rain and flooding above Seattle and into Vancouver and BC. Hope he’s OK out there.
Willie, last time was over a week ago, when we were discussing the Weimer pick up (and how Matos, Encarnacion, and Luciano were out of options).
I am on the extreme East side of the State and we’ve been experiencing a some rain, extreme gusts/wind, and early morning fog. Couple that with getting used to the extreme low horizon of the sun due to being so far north. His house is sort of on a “knoll” or hill, where it sits above the inlet/bay that he has gorgeous views of. To the best of my knowledge, he is doing well. Hope you are doing good Willie!
Thanks, you and yours too.
Heard this earlier today, been awhile

Sorry about the ad at the beginning. Don’t know how to get rid of it
The Giants lost 5 unprotected players to the rule 5 draft. I don’t really know how the system works but I guess players who are unprotected in the minor system can be claimed for good. At least that is what I understood.
POed they lost Spenser Miles this way . . . although there is this much “” chance he’ll be returned from the Blue Jays (as they have a championship like roster, that can’t afford to stash an unproductive player per McCovey Chronicles).
Since it looks like the Giants wont spend any real dough this off season, I am hoping Lee gets his act together. His center field play was the worst in the MLB (see the article link below). Insofar as hitting, April he was Superman and I don’t expect that, but I hope we do not get the May version of him either.

The whole team was pretty much on fire out the gate but soon it was a more Jekyll and Hyde situation. I have seen the Giants go through some long slumps over the years but I have never seen a year like last year.
Nor I. Equally bad, the lack of runs scored each game made watching them – a snore fest. It seemed this would go on for weeks and weeks, with little respite (a break out game here and there, where occasionally they score more than 3 runs).
Just really boring baseball. I’ll tune out ASAP if that’s their MO next season.
anyone looking for good baseball read in winter I’d highly recommend Jane Leavy’s “Make Me Commissioner.” She talks lot to Dusty Baker Marquis Grissom and Ron Washington and Spaceman Bill Lee, among tons of others (Alex Bregman and other players plus former execs and managers and Bill James) and has fun sense of humor. Not sure I’d go along with all her ideas to improve things, but anyone over Manfred.
Hopefully Big Flav rejuvenates Flap in Spring.
Thanks I haven’t read a baseball book in quite awhile. And even though I don’t appreciate a lot of the modern game a fresh perspective couldn’t hurt.
BA is on the “left the team” list and is officially off the squad.
CMC is listed as questionable with a new back injury
DL Sebastian (Hulk) Valdez is activated to the 53
Valdez showed some game in the preseason. Hopefully another bottom barrel find.
CMC should play. Didn’t hear about the back thing. Going to this game.
But oh, man, got fucked up like I haven’t in about 20 years.
Old friends and all that. good gravy.
Kinda like SF weather here in South Bay–dark and cool about 50 degrees out. Safe travels Chuck!
Funny last Sunday early afternoon I was in City at old Washington HS (30th/Balboa) for basketball and it was nice sunny day, if little brisk and windy out in the Avenues.
My late aunt Mary lived on the Avenues (11th). Love that area. So much to do there.
Raiders are getting severely spanked by the Eagles. Offensive line is unbelievably porous. Sheesh, even a great coach like Pete Carroll is going to need multiple perfect drafts to make this team a contender.
Rivers (just threw a TD) and Colts are doing their part against Seattle. Same deal with Lions . . . Got Niners game going on one video feed and switching off another video feed from Seahawks and Rams games. Hahaha . . .
