So Much for Healing

Well, Kittle and Purdy ain’t coming back this weekend. But they did open Malik Mustapha’s practice window, so he may be back soon. But more defensive bad news is that Yetur Gross-Matos is out with a bad hammy for a couple games, and Khalia Davis is out with hand surgery. Not sure on that timeline either.

Not sure how this team can win without SOME of their injured players returning, but onward we go to Tampa Bay for the dreaded east coast morning game. mac Jones stock sure rose that last game as he overcame shitty pass blocking and got hit repeatedly and was not rewarded with roughing the passer on a couple pretty obvious penalties.

We of course barely get close enough to any QBs to even draw a roughing call, so Saleh has to once again dip into his majic bag and come up with ways to keep TB off the field. His unit did give up 456 yards to the Rams (in only 26 mins of possession), but made the one necessary stop on 4th and 1. We DID get a pick by Upton but it was negated by a horseshit Vinovich PI call. One of many bullshit calls by him.

The offense did a great job of keeping the ball from the Rams offense, but (stop me if you’ve heard this before) the fucking offense sputtered YET AGAIN in 1st and goal situations.

The first 2 drives saw the 49ers:

  • Throw on 1st and goal – Result – TD
  • Throw on 2nd down play-action to CMC in the flat – Result – TD

Since those plays worked so well, Shanahan never went back to them and instead we ended up kicking FOUR field goals the rest of the way. Genious indeed. So fucking tired of this. All our games will be like this if Shanahan continues to play football like fucking Jim Harbaugh used to.

And that is to play conservative until forced to open up the playbook, or grind the game down to the point of playing that last possession for the win. I loved Walsh’s philosophy of get way ahead and keep up the pressure and score 35 on ’em.

Couple extra hours to figure out how to sack the QB. Not counting on it.

I didn’t think we had much of a chance last week. I just hope we can field a team and play em tough. With a healthy McCaffrey and Bourne we might be able to do some damage.

I guess we will know who’s playing by Saturday. Last I read we were gonna sign a couple Dline guys don’t know if we did.

Cleveland can’t stop fucking around at the QB spot. They are the Broncos of the ’20s.

I was hoping we would have given Gabriel a shot in the Draft. Yeh, he’s small and a southpaw but, he’s got game.

I think Cleveland realizes his talent and made Flacco’s move a good option.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I do actually like Gabriel a lot as well.

I think I’m more amazed he isn’t related to Roman Gabriel. But the Deshaun Watson experience was a disaster. They dumped Mayfield, who wasn’t the problem, and 10,000 other odd moves.

Oh well. Flacco still haunts me as how the fuck could we lose to him in the Super Bowl?

Hah! Couldn’t hurt I guess! Or the FGs will go sideways to the bench.

Hope he figures his shit out just for his own peace of mind.

But I’m so glad Shanny did pull the trigger. Not sure we would have ended up with Piniero if this had gone differently.

The art of kicking is just one of the mysteries of life. Like being a closer in baseball, it takes a certain mind-set that isn’t reachable by all.

  14. Berger's avatar Berger says:

I saw an interesting trade proposal. Brandon Aiyuk for Bradley Chubb. We need a pass rusher, they need a WR.

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Aiyuk needs to prove he’s healthy first. He’s got a monster contract attached to his ass. Not sure he’s going to have a chance to prove anything before the deadline. Might have to give up a pick or another WR.

I’m hoping the NYJ go 0-6 and Saleh can grab a former player to fit in immediately.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’d love to get Quinnen Williams or even McDonald. Not sure where they are on their contracts. Reddick would be awesome, but he just signed a deal i think.

They have some great d linemen and I’m sure all of them would love to play for Saleh.

  16. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’d bet my house that the 49ers do not move Jones this season.

They signed him to a 2-year deal for this very scenario. He balls out and jacks up his trade value.

His value will still be there by the end of the year. Or even the remote possibility that Jones Pipps Purdy and we can trade him.

Unlikely but these days, who knows?

Wonder if they could try to see if anyone wants Nick Martin.

If they make a move, it won’t be for a top-line guy. Not if they plan on keeping Bosa longer.

The Saints Granderson is a mid-level guys that wouldn’t cost the farm.
