Who’s Gonna Catch the Ball?

Yeah, we have Kittle signed, urday signed, and we even may have a viable backup TE in Luke Ferrell. But what about WR? We all know Deebo pouted and dropsied his way off the team last year amid the whining and general ineffectiveness, but who steps up?

And we all know Brandon Aiyuk is in the process of following Deebo’s path of whining stupidity from social media to off the team after holding out last year, playing like shit, and getting hurt. He’s more than likely gonna hit the PUP list, forcing to miss the first four games, and then, well, we will see. Funny thing is, BA is pretty much pissing in the wind given the state of NFL quarterbacking these days. Lots; of newbies and stiffs out there. he had a great thing going with Purdy until he shot himself in the feet. Granted the front office was handing him all the bullets he could fire, but that’s a different story.

Speaking of shooting, Ricky Pearsall is slow to be cleared to practice as he is nursing a sore hammy. If anyone needs to hit the ground running, it’s the guy we spent our 1st round pick on last year. As I’ve said more than a few times, I didn’t get the pick then and I still don’t get it. But if he isn’t full speed by September, we are kinda thin at the WR spot.

11Aiyuk, Brandon 5DemarcusRobinson18Hodgins, Isaiah3Knowles, Malik
1Pearsall, Ricky17Watkins, Jordan14Neyor, Isaiah83Owens, Terique
15Jennings, Jauan19Cowing, Jacob86Bergen, Junior84Gage Jr., Russell

Among the rumblings, the guy we got from the Rams, Demarcus Robinson looks to be suspended for 3 games stemming from getting popped for DUI/reckless (luckily wreckless) driving last November while driving over 100 MPH near the Rams team facility. Come on, man. Who hasn’t done that?

That leaves 3rd and Jauan Jennings as our go-to WR. HE’s a stud and very reliable, but who’s next? Jacob Cowing is a nice slot guy who isn’t gonna make anyone forget Trent Taylor, but other than that, we are thin as tissue. At least until Robinson and BA come back. And I really wonder if we just cut BA when he comes back. I’m kidding, kind of, but really.

Hodgins, Gage, and Knowles are fairly nondescript young guys, and Watkins, Bergren, & Neyor are rooks. TO JR would a the feel-good story of the year if he could have an impact, but that is a shot in the darkest dark.

One thing coming out of camp so far is the impact Jordan Watkins is making on teammates and coaches. He’s apparently doing a number on Lenoir in practice, and that is no mean feat. Sure it’s only practice, but hey, if we have a diamond in the rough in Watkins as these guys seem to be good at finding; groovy, baby!

    Great fucking table, wordpress.

  2. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Not sure why but I am not worried about our WR’s or our offense in general. I just feel this is gonna be a bounce back year for the whole team. So far it just seems like the new blood is giving us some positive vibe and hopefully they can play up to their expectations. Since we have so many new players on the D I still have a little doubt about the learning curve.

I’m a little more optimistic about the defense, Winder. Seeing as they were so awful last year. 3rd to 28th in points allowed is beyond just dropping down a little. They have nowhere to go but up, really.

Saleh will have these guys ready.

As far as the offense goes, I hope we try to get quicker at getting the ball out. Everyone likes the chunk plays, but we need to focus on 8-12 yard plays. At least initially.

I mean, take shots downfield, but do it early to get in in the opposition’s head regardless if it works or not.

Watkins ran a 4.37 40. Send him deep on play #1. Every goddamn game.

  3. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

We shall see about Watkins and his 4.37 speed the Niners never know how to use that speed properly.Remember Danny Gray( now with Eagles)he was even faster 4.33 but hands of stones, then theirs Jacob Cowing 4.38 speed but never saw the field much( playbook issues? Shanny said he’s not ready on the field to contribute? Then when? Yeah a breakaway deep threat would be great but will it happen?🤷

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shanny hates rookie WRs I guess. This is shades of Harbaugh and Ted Ginn. Fastest guy on the planet and Ginn caught ONE deep ball in 4 seasons, and that was called back by penalty. Utter insanity. Same with Grey and Cowing with Shanny.

Send a guy on a go route ONCE A FUCKING GAME at least.

    Here’s our injury report.

    • WR Ricky Pearsall (hamstring)
    • WR Jauan Jennings (calf)
    • DE Mykel Williams (hamstring)
    • DT Alfred Collins (calf)
    • OT Andre Dillard (ankle scope)
    • S J’Ayir Brown (ankle cleanup)
    • S George Odum (knee)
    • DL Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)

These are all supposedly ‘minor’ but we will see. With this front office, they could all be down to their last-rites.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Yeah it is concerning that both our starting WR’s are already injured and that our first two picks from this years draft are both injured. Not a good sign.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

That would be awesome if he could still play at a high level. It would also make drafting his replacement a little easier.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hey, Jackie Slater among others played into their 40s.

We’ll see, but that would be nice if we could get a couple more high quality seasons out of him.

  6. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Hey Trent Williams can go in till he’s 40 easily, he can get all his inspiration playing still if he looks at HOF player Bruce Matthews who played till 40 .He played 19 years 296 games missed only 3 games( that’s mind boggling)in his self played every position on the OL and made 14 Pro Bowls including his last season!

Just a remarkable career and really all the other Matthews members Clay,Clay jr have been great as well in this family tree of NFL players..

So barring a real bad injury and Trent’s desire to play I see him continuing on..

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Huh. Dude’ll prolly get hurt before the season starts anyway.

  9. bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

Ben Bartch seems to be frontrunner for LG starter. Outside of knee surgery in his 3rd season overall he looks solid. Check on his PFF scores maybe. He has the size and combine stats are OK.

    Elaboration:

    • 2024 Season:Bartch suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 14 against the Chicago Bears, causing him to miss the final four games of the season and be placed on injured reserve.
    • 2023 Season:He experienced a finger injury, but its severity and timing were not fully detailed in the search results.
    • 2022 Season:Bartch suffered a season-ending knee injury with the Jacksonville Jaguars, requiring surgery and sidelining him for the remainder of the season.
    • 2021 Season:Bartch played in all 15 games with 11 starts at right guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
    • 2020 Season:Bartch, as a rookie, appeared in 13 games (one start) with the Jacksonville Jaguars at guard and tackle.

Sounds like the Texans has fucked up what happens with 2nd rd picks giving WR Jayden Higgins a fully guaranteed contract, then Browns did the same with LB Carson Schweiser (sp) in the history of NFL NO 2nd rd picks have ever received a guaranteed contract.
Now 49er DT Alfred Collins the only guy not signed now is thinking if Higgins &Schweiser can get that deal why not me? So it’s a wait and see what the 49ers will do now..
