Two Weeks Till the Draft . . .

. . . and let’s not kid ourselves. This is right up there with the most important draft in the Shanalynch era. The team has shed talent and contracts like I shed brain cells at 5:00 PM. It’s survival of the fittest brain cells in my head. Stragglers succumb to the ocean of beer I subject them to.

Anyhow, we all know the big names on the O line and D line that look to be our savior. You have OT Will Campbell, OT Armand Membou, DT Mason Graham, DE Shemar Stewart, DT Ken Grant, OT Kelvin Banks, OG Tyler Booker, DE Mykel Williams, and OT Josh Simmons.

Yeah, there are safeties, a couple CBs and LBs scattered among the top guys, but for us I’m thinking we get one of those guys.

And NO I don’t want to see us draft TE Tyler Warren, but given the fact I think that Shanahan is about 99% in control of day one, we pick the TE.

Shoot me now.

They NEVER get who i think they should. The only time they got who I thought they should have was Nick Bosa. Well, I was all for the Trey Lance deal, but there were alot of people on the wrong side of that shit. Sub out Lance for Jones, and no trade, and we have 2 more 1st round picks.

I don’t know. These guys scare me with their seemingly wild-hair-up-the-ass picks like Ricky Pearsall.

With the shedding of DT’s Collins and Hargrave and Edge Floyd and no FA’s incoming DT and DE are the first two picks.

My hope is next two are OL. Maybe trade picks and get an extra 2nd. Scary bottom-line is once again betting that Trent is productive and healthy.

Last year there was a rumor that we tried but failed to move in front of BALT to get OT Rosengarten and got stuck with Piersall.

I wasn’t n favor of the Pearsall pick but it does look like he is going to be a good receiver. My #1 choice is Kenneth Grant. If we pick a run stuffing DT or elite OT or a bonafide pass rushing and run stuffing DE/OLB, I’ll be happy. Ohio State has a great run stuffing DT that can probably go 2nd or 3rd round. I can’t remember his name.

Haven’t seen this since I saw it at some midnight movie somewhere when I was in high school. 1978? And it was longer than fuck-all.

Forgot how Rick Wright was basically ignored throughout the movie, and this song was dedicated to Nick Mason while David Gilmour wails away.

Was looking up the Pompeii movie and they are releasing it in IMAX for 2 days.

April 24 and 25. I think they cut it down from the over 3 hours of the original.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I used to go see Pink Floyd in Pompei at the midnight theater in downtown Covina back in the 70s. I also saw the Led Zeppelin concert and Rocky Horror Picture Show there.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, the Manor on 25th in San Mateo (just down the street from Tom Brady) used to show all those. Woodstock, Jimi Plays Berkeley, Rocky Horror, Eraserhead, Groove Tube, Tunnel Vision, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. All the classics.

    • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

Wonder how many of the day 1 and 2 picks will start week 1. Play them and adjust to nfl caliber play seems best approach for the front 7 on D.

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

IMO the Dline guys can work via sub packages BTom. Oline might take a little while.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Puni sure was an outlier in that he picked up our blocking scheme from day one and played every down at a high level. Even making fucking McKivitz look better than he really is.

O line isn’t the easiest position to walk into out of college, so they struck gold there.

Can they hit twice this draft?

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

OT is the toughest to acclimate to from college I think.

Interior guys probably have it a bit easier but Puni was definitely a plus.

McKivitz was a LT out of college. I initially saw him as an OG at the pro level but he’s nowhere near as bad as McGlinchey was at RT IMO. Wonder if McKivitz could switch to LG this season and have a rookie OT start at RT before Trent hangs up the cleats?

      • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

puni did 5 years of college ball

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Well, my hope is replacing McKivitz. He was helped a lot by Puni’s outstanding play, but his pass pro is still on the atrocious side. If he can move to the interior and be decent, that would be great. He is a good run blocker but we need pass pro to keep Purdy upright.

Every big loss came down to teams pressuring us and playing us to pass and our protections broke down. Sure, some was backup TEs missing assignments, but for whatever reason they have failed down the stretch.

Trade Purdy to NO to replace Derek Carr?

    Use the draft capital for:

If TENN picks Cam Ward then trade for Will Levis or roster build-back-better OL for Mac Jones, CB1, and DL

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

I had an open mind until you wanted Will Levis. He sucks worse than Whistlers Mother, and she is dead.

      • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

Ha!!! I don’t watch many nfl games. Just read his OL is terrible and receivers ho-hum. Can KS make him better?

Am wondering if Purdy is going to demand too much. If so would do a Walsh on him and sell before day 1 of draft.

A year ago wanted to sell BA before the draft as well.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

A Walsh? Yeah, remember when Walsh traded Montana in 1987 and rode with Steve Young?

        U b trippin.

Come on, man. Let’s be the Browns and switch QBs every 3 years and flail like flounders.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

They are gonna pick a TE because Shanahan is Captain Bligh.

I actually love Easterly’s idea of moving back to 20 with Bronco’s and get that extra 2nd rd pick! And still getting DT Grant,OL Donovan,DE Timulosa (sp this kid could be a steal in the draft!) throw in a CB Dotson,a bruising RB in Martinez not bad.. this guy gets it a solid draft ..
Hell who knows checking out crazy mocks, trades going into it ..He’ll I’ve seen a bold shakeup in the 1st rd with 49ers moving up to 3 with Giants to grab Abdul Carter giving the Giants their number 11 and a first rd next year. Fuck it do it,Carter&Bosa would be awesome together!Bosa finally gets the help he deserves while still in his prime…

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

We aren’t trading up. No way no how. Trading down is a possibility if the guys they want are gone.

  13. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

When it comes to draft day all bets are off with the 49ers going up are down with ShanyLynch..Blew 3 number 1’s to go up and draft Lance so any scenario is possible Chuck..

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’d bet the house they don;t trade up. Trey Lance is still too fresh a fuck-up.

And Josh Simmons coming off that surgery isn;t worth the risk either.

  14. bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

mid-april now so OT Josh Simmons so his own pro day is this week to show off his recovery from ruptured patellar tendon surgery .

I think it would be wonderful if the nfl went back to the 15 to 20 draft picks each year. that way you get a chance to pick some of those UDFA’s before they could sign with another team. Don’t think we would have a practice squad any longer but I think we would have more of the players we wanted. I don’t know why they stopped that to begin with. My guess is it has to do with money.
