Scrub-fest tonight in Santa Clara. The Walmart Brigade, whatever you want to call it, but of the current 86 players on the roster, 33 o them will be out of jobs, or a few young guys will be sent to the taxi squad. I suppose I’ll watch some of it mainly to see if CJ can get out of his mini-doldrums. He’s been kinda spotty this preseason, as has just about every other aspect of the team. Too many drops, too many penalties, too little pass rush, too little run game. Way too little red zone success.
But that’s why they call it preseason. Aluminum Mike Singletary used to say a win is a win is a win, whether preseason or regular season. You need to practice winning whatever the meaning. Which is why Aluminum Mike is out of coaching. Unless you call the Alliance of American Football a thing.
But I digress. If anything, I’d just like to see a clean game. Greg Kittle, Matt Brieda, and Jerick McKinnon haven’t played at all, and won’t be tonight, so how they integrate in Minnesota in 10 days remains a mystery. As is our pass rush. Salomon Thomas sure looked solid with Armstead in there with him to take the blocking load off his side, and they’ve shown flashes of greatness, but I’m not getting the vibe that this team is completely on the same page.
Then again, they haven’t really been at full strength and played more than a few series together. Again, though, if they get out of their own way and nix the drops, I feel like this team will surprise people.
10 more days!
Jesus.. All the gains are QB scrambles and yes, penalties.
Not sure what Blair did wrong on the pressure, but I guess you can’t tackle with your arms, or 0.1 seconds after the ball comes out.
Drops and penalties. And our backup LT D WIlliams sucks.
quad trick
That’s the same thing he did last week on his first play against the Colts.
I’ve been wanting to see howe Mullens does against better competition, and it ain’t looking so good.
basically JimmyG just can’t get hurt this year…..
Yup. Thats true for every team not named the Eagles. The league isn’t built on backup QBs.
Mullens looked a little better on that drive at least
I see Rueben is playing. That’s good news.
Yeah, good to see Foster flying around out there.
Richey James may just push his way on the team. Same with Dwelling. Hikutini has dropped too many passes for my liking, and his blocking isn’t very good. Dwelling blocks well and catches everything close to him.
Yeah, Dwelley made a real nice lead block on Mullens’ TD run in the first half. You want to be a tight end in the NFL, you’d better be able to block and he does that, as well as looking pretty good catching the ball. I hope he makes it.
San Diego kid, played at USD. Go Toreros!
Smart kid, too, and he’s from Sacramento originally:
49ers Cut RB Joe Williams
Sure getting Morris doomed him along with injuries although he’s healthy now.
Aldrick Robinson gone. That bodes well for young Richie James. Williams being cut is no surprise at this point, not with Morris coming in and doing so well. Williams hadn’t shown jack.
Robinson never seemed to turn the right way on out routes. And Williams is no surprise as noted. Dwelley is the nexr guy I’d like to see stick around.
And you can’t go wrong with Rick James.
Yeah, baby, forever a classic!
Would love to see Mack in a Niners uniform but I don’t see them coughing up 2 firsts for him. The team is more than 1 pass rusher away from SB contenders.

Next years draft s all about the pass rush. Looks like Mack is going to da Bears.
Jonathan Cooper and Korey Toomer are gone.
Pretty funny. I think this guy is going to be good for us. A savvy veteran with “a lot of tread left on the tires.” His words!
LB Elijah Lee makes the squad. Good for him!
Now we have this “body weight” rule? That 15 yarder against Ronald Blair in the first quarter was a joke. He landed on the QB’s legs for Christ sake. These rule changes are really going to affect game outcomes. It could get ugly. If Jack Lambert thought QB’s should be wearing dresses back in the ’70’s, I can’t imagine what he thinks now.
Solomon Thomas looked really good in his series.
Bummer Dwelley didn’t make it. Maybe he’ll make the PS.
Fucking McKinnon blew out his knee in his first practice back today. Un-fucking-believable. MRI pending.
On the last play of practice. LOL. Shit luck.
That truly sucks, we sure don’t see many brakes anymore.
McKinnon done for the year. Unbelievable. Morris is your #1.
If I’m not mistaken I think we can get out of McKinnon’s contract with medium damage. The dude never even took a real hit. Injury settlement and move on. Mistake on his toughness.
I wonder if the Niners would even consider such a thing.
It makes sense to me Winder.
If they have the option to save the Cap hit, why not?
Spend the money elsewhere, like a pass rushing OLB/DE who just got waived.
The kid from SDSU Pumphrey just got waived in Philly.
Might be worth a waiver claim on him?
Attaochu is a bit of a surprise. Fucking mcKinnon is out? Not like we knew what we had anyway. Jesus. Morris looks good.
Willing to bet Joe Williams comes back?
PS eligible?
Should be a busy weekend in terms of waiver claims etc.
Interestingly it hasn’t been for the Niners, thats a confident Management team to stand basically PAT. Still time I guess.
My instinct was that Williams is done in SF. He hadn’t really shown enough to even be considered for the PS, even with McKinnon going down.
The San Francisco 49ers announced on Sunday that they have signed the following 9 players to the team’s practice squad.
WR – Steven Dunbar Jr.
TE – Ross Dwelley
CB – Emmanuel Moseley
QB – Nick Mullens
DB – Tyvis Powell
DL – Niles Scott
LB – Pita Taumoepenu
OL – Najee Toran
RB – Jeff Wilson Jr.
I like Dwelky. He may come back soon.0
I think Shanny likes him too, He’s an intriguing prospect, raw but with some good tools already, blocking and pass catching. He’s big too. Real happy he landed on the PS. I’m a little surprised more than one OL didn’t end up there.
Traded for OL Shon Coleman
Added Zach Golditch from LAC to PS
Also, got Philly’s Matt Tobin today
Pretty heavy investments in OL this year I’d say.
Those all happened after my post, of course, save for Coleman.
Just trying to get you updated Lurker John 😀
Changes by the hour following roster cuts.
I did not realize that Jerrick McKinnon and Matt Breida both played at Georgia Southern.
Some positivity in the wake of McKinnon’s season-ending injury:
GO 49ERS!
Zach Golditch has an interesting Bio –
Talk about a brush with death….
OL Zach Golditch (6-5, 295, Colorado State)
Golditch originally signed with the L.A. Chargers as an undrafted rookie. He played 19 snaps for the Chargers against the 49ers on Thursday. Golditch is a survivor of the 2012 mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. He was struck in the neck by a bullet that went through a wall between his theater and the theater where the shooting occurred.
Holy shit. That’s unbelievable.
This is worth checking out. They have the Niners kind of where I’m thinking they’ll end up, 8 wins, but with a chance for 9 or 10 if they can stay healthy (a big if with this team) and if Jimmy G continues to develop like we all hope he will. The secondary remains a concern.
I personally feel like Solly Thomas is going to step up big time this year. Whether he attains the status accorded a #3 pick remains to be seen, but he’s looked far more advanced throughout OTA’s and camp this year, not to mention that he’s stronger after an off-season in the weight room. If he’s good, as well as Armstead, Buckner figures to break out. He’s already one of the highest rated interior linemen in the league.

I am going 8-8 for the year. If we are lucky and the ball bounces our way a couple of times I can see 9 wins. It’s the injuries that will kill us and you know we are gonna get some. Anyway, we are in such a better place that we’ve been in for a long time. Even at 8-8 I bet we see a whole lot of exciting ball this year.
Yes on all counts.
I think we could get to 10 wins if we can start fast. Pie last year we have a tough early schedule but an easier sched late.
St Jim may be fired if this season goes south. And it’s starting to feel that way.
It can happen.
The hell you say. The great St. Jim, God of Michigan, on shaky ground? Say it ain’t so!
Hah! Skeebs is crying n his near-beer.
9-9 in Michigan’s last eighteen games.
This is a brutal week of waiting. I don’t feel all that great about having to go to MN and play that team in the first game, but I’m just ready for the season to start. Really stoked this year.
I’m in for 10-6.
new threadis =up.
