So Much for Avoiding COVID – And Whither Jimmy?

Well, ALL of our defensive backs, minus benched PI magnet Josh Norman, are on the COVID list. There’s hope that some or all, even including Emmanuel Moseley, could be ready. Not a great scenario where it comes to playing the Rams. Throw into the mix the fact that Jimmy G got through his first practice since the Tennessee game.

Oh joy.

So, the starting QB is up for debate, the secondary is quarantined, and we face elimination with a loss on Sunday. In other words, the Rams are ripe for the picking. For whatever reason, Kyle Shanahan has won the last 5 games against Sean McVay. I mean really, Nick Mullens beat the rams last year? I suppose that should give me hope, but I have no idea.

My thought is to keep Trey in as the starter. He provides more mobility, and progressed nicely last game. He an throw deeper passes, and gives us a better chance to win. Sure, it was only one game, but Lance needs to gain experience on the playing field, and playing a game with this kind of impact will go a long way toward Lance’s development. Jimmy?

We know what Jimmy brings. Wild inconsistency. Hurt Jimmy is rarely good Jimmy.

I would roll the dice with Lance also. At least our season is interesting again. To be honest I don’t think it would be the end of the world if we lose this game. I think we will win it though.

  2. unca_chuck says:

Yep. I’m with you. At this point Jimmy is a dead horse. Might as well move on and get Trey some experience in big games. If Jimmy and Kyle had done a better job this season, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

  3. unca_chuck says:

More injury news. Safety Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder), safety Talanoa Hufanga (knee), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (groin) and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf) were limited in practice.

    • Winder says:

We could use all those guy Sunday. Greenlaw must have did a number on his groin. He has been out for a long time. Hufanga is gonna be a keeper and Tartt has maybe lost a step but is still a player we need.

    • unca_chuck says:

Well, the crack medical staff brought Greenlaw back too early and he re-aggravated it after 6 plays a few weeks ago.

  4. unca_chuck says:

I just want Al-Shaair back. If this defense was every fully healthy, we would be pretty damn good.

I think DeMeco Ryans has learned a lot from this season. Still pissed about the Green Bay game, but I’ll get over it. Soon.

    • willedav says:

Read this morning he didn’t practice and is unexpected to play Sunday. No problem with Lance starting, and with week behind him I expect he and Shanahan to have better game plan, and they will need it. D is another story entirely, whether Ryans can figure out how to slow down Rams with who he has at his disposal.

  5. NJ49ER says:

NFL can use covid as a weapon if they choose to.
They made all sorts of moves recently to reschedule games that included the Rams yet fucked NOLA v Miami on MNF.
Can’t trust the billionaires’ boys club as far as one can spit.
Hearing talk about SB contingency plans to move the game from LA to TX related to covid restrictions in CA.
    Red States and blue States….
    How convenient for Jerruh huh?
    Fukn joke.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Hah! Post of the day! Great movie.

  7. unca_chuck says:

Well, good news is Emmanuel Moseley is fully practicing. Just hope the rest of the DBs come back from the COVID protocol. Keeping Dontae and Josh off the field is imperative.

  8. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Al-Shaair is out. From the Chron:

Injury report: Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams missed his second straight practice with a sprained elbow, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that Williams is expected to play against the Rams. … Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) did not practice and is not expected to play Sunday. … Linebacker Marcell Harris (Achilles) was added to the injury report and was limited. … Running back Elijah Mitchell (knee), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (groin), defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf) and safeties Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder) and Talanoa Hufanga (knee) were limited.

  9. Irish Kevin says:

It looks like Jimmy will be the starter, yesterdays practice he was throwing the ball, and throwing deep, not that he will throw it deep during an actual game, but still, if he is passing the ball down the field today during practice he will more than likely be the starter. 🤮🤢🤮🤢

  10. unca_chuck says:

Oh joy. I hope he has a short leash.

  11. 12th Man says:

Kyle has ridden Jimmy all year, good or bad, what makes any of us think he will change now if Jimmy is close to available?

    Just sayin.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Niners get Jimmie Ward, KWon Williams, and D Johnson back from the COVID list. As long as Norman is off the field, I’m fine.

No word on Thomas yet. He has improved dramatically.

  13. unca_chuck says:

Actually Thomas is off the COVID list.

This is as healthy as we’ve been in a while.

  14. NJ49ER says:

Hope Shanny plans on running a lot today.
I lost the ranch apparently on that bet…

Yep. Not happy, but Captain Bligh has made his call.

    New thread is up.
