Farewell, Old Friend

He hasn’t been here in a while but just wanted to pass along that Michael (Twinfan) Scott passed away on 12/31. For those you you that don’t know, his father was Ray Scott, CBS football announcer, that, among a ton of other games, did the Ice Bowl between Green Bay and Dallas back in 1967.

Twinfan was extremely knowledgeable about baseball, extremely opinionated about football, and could get extremely annoying about anything at any time. I had more that my share of run-ins with him here, at oneflapdown77.com (Flav’s baseball blog), the old Splash, and the old Niner Insider Chronicle blogs.

I first ran into the buzzsaw that was Twinfan on the Splash blog in 2006, and he wasted no time in vilifying me as a sub-human cretin who beat his children because I didn’t know what OPS+ or WAR meant. On the flip side, he regularly came up with contests to give away expensive computers to the winners, and was a caring giving person in real-life. He battled Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for 20+ years due to exposure to Agent Orange in Viet Nam. In the myriad emails he sent me telling me what an idiot I was at running a blog, he also was a genuine gentleman who cared for his wife dearly, and told mer a few times that blogging was keeping him going as he health failed.

Based on all the physical pain, suffering, and multiple brain surgeries he went through, my hope is he enjoyed some of this as he railed against us.

R.I.P. Michael

He will be missed. RIP Twinfan. He used to jump all over me at times for my views on the Giants. He could be brutal at times but it was always a fun interaction to me. And, I did pay attention when he talked about things because you knew he knew what he was talking about. Sad news indeed.

Sorry to hear that. Had some interesting discussions and a couple of fun clashes with Twinny too. RIP.

    sorry to hear

Sorry to hear about Twin. He would always come on strong on the Splash blog. He thought I was this young woman character completely phony that some unknown man created named “Soph.” Soph was a dope but the character created a lot responses at the time.

    • Winder says:

Yeah, Soph never gave up, it was funny. I remember twin going after ‘dead ron hun’t all the time and it used to crack me up.

      • Nipper says:

Yeah this fictitious “Soph” character was a young person going to some college back East.. Anyway Soph was going to classes when the college was closed for vacation! People were fact checking at the time and the facts never added up. It was a hoot! The guy making up this character never bothered to check anything.

      • Winder says:

Just thinking about it chuck and V used to go at it pretty good also. That was when profanity was exceptable. The Splash was a fun place for awhile.

I liked Twinny. We debated but he was a good quality debate for me. Some facts, some humor and a lot of fun. I don’t mind trash talking but I do mind condescending people. He could talk some trash but he kept it real and among friends. RIP Twin Fan.

V is like a rash that won’t go away. Yeah, Sophrosyne claimed to be a 17 year old girl going to school at Bryn Mawr. One of her claims was that her Grandma graduated in 1901, which would put her at about 70. Unless both her grandama and mom had kids in their late 70s.

    Nice Tribute to Michael(Twinfan) Chuck,
Yeah we had several heated exchanges even going back to the Splash, but mostly on the Flap, but I always try to find the good in someone, even if I was regularly called a dickwad by him.I could tell in his posts he was more then his usual ornery way,and his body and mind went thru constant pain so I gave him more leeway when we texted(not gonna win a battle against him anyway)
    RIP Michael
