Well, the huge strides made by the offense a couple Thursdays ago were lost in a miasma of dropped passes, interminable penalties, misguided throws, and a tepid run game featuring a suddenly dropsy Carlos Hyde, and not much else. Robbie Gould kicked 5 FGs, and the Niners were poised to win their 1st game, in OT, but the refs again made a questionable call late in OT to give AZ a 1st down and thus the game-winning TD.
Fucking Carson Palmer looked good till we started blasting him, yet he constantly went after Rashard Robinson. This resulted in at least 4 penalties called on him. They never really did roll Tartt to help him, but Tartt was for the most part the single deep guy 35 yard back on any given play. So, he was for the most part watching from the bleachers. Robinson came in to the league all piss and vinegar, but the game is humbling his ass pretty convincingly. I like his attitude, but he came in raw and is playing that way. 2 of the 4 calls on him were borderline, but he did get his head around to make some plays on deep balls. Robinson had kept Larry Fitzgerald quiet most of the game till, well, you know.
As onerous as all the penalties on defense were, and AZ was given the right to knock our wideouts down with no calls, the offense reverted to its erroneous ways of inopportune penalties, terrible drops, and hurried throws from our soon-to-be backup QB. I don’t know if Hoyer will make it through the season as the starter, but yet again his pass catchers didn’t. A nice early drive was thwarted by a 3rd down drop of a perfectly thrown pass down the right sideline to Logan Paulson that would have gone for about 35 yards.
Marquise Goodwin went down early with a concussion, so the onus fell on Aldrick Robinson to make plays. He didn’t. More often than not he and Hoyer were off-script and couldn’t connect despite 10-12 targets. And of course the obligatory drop of another perfectly thrown pass that would have garnered about 45 yards. Garcon was blanketed by Patrick Peterson so he was kept in check. Carlos Hyde played about half of the available plays as he was shuttled in and out with Matt Brieda. He fumbled twice, once being recovered by Staley, and the other being ruled down.
Again though, the NFL feels the overarching need of football is to give a forum for the referees. Every ticky tack penalty MUST be called regardless of the impact of the game. Hand-checking of WRs/DBs is tolerated until it isn’t. WRs can be tackled, but they can’t occupy space over the middle. Merely running by a cutting WR drew a flag for Robinson yesterday without any actual contact.
Trent Taylor, despite being a small guy, is drawing an inordinate number of penalties for things like running crossing routes that cause OPI calls. It negated our best chance for a TD, and was about a 70-30% non-call, as crossing routes are supposed to cause confusion and traffic. The pisser is Brieda was cleared the LBs and the pick didn’t help the play.
Oh well. I’m as frustrated as everyone else, but I don’t think this is the time to switch QBs or anything. As terible as our red zone offense was yesterday, the problem was penalties and drops. Not horrible QB play. Besides that, I don’t think BeatHard is ready by any stretch.

Glad the Giants finally finished their awful season. I blame the GM and above for the crummy season. They should have known better. Still the injuries did not help. The lack of power on a Giants team is a disgrace.
Yeah, this will be an interesting off-season for the SF Giants.
Meanwhile, in the race for Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen, the Niners Chargers, Browns and NY football Giants are all perfecto. Actually, I’m thinking Rosen is ahead of Darnold. I’d give Rosen the nod as he’s a year older and is more NFL ready.
Hoyer is strickly a back-up and should be replaced ASAP. The offense sure sucks. Niners need a better vet to QB. A rookie no matter how good in college will never be an answer for this team. They may as well sign KAP. Hoyer is not the answer even for a re-building team.

I tend to agree about Beathard, but if you’re going to stink at the position you may as well do it with a guy who may have a future moving forward. What’ve you got to lose? The team is 0-4. The Niners are really hamstrung at QB right now. Hoyer was very bad yesterday, but I expect he’ll remain the starter for now.
I am pretty sure Hoyer can read D’s better than CJ at this ;point but I would put him in just to see and he’s gonna need the experience anyway. I have never seen an offense that drops so many passes before I mean wtf these guys are supposed to be pro’s. Anyway, except for the Carolina game we have been in it until the end and that is a really good fucking sign
We are in these games strictly because of the defense. Except for the game they didn’t show up. And that was the Rams. Ahhh well.

Well as far as Hoyer is concern, it is as much the receivers fault as Hoyers, I don’t know what the stat is but I would like to know how many dropped passes vs uncatchable/bad passes. I bet it is pretty equal.
If I’m Hoyer, I’d be pretty pissed. The Seattle game could have been won but for the drop by Goodwin. Last week there were 4 drops? Given that we are also fighting the refs, it makes for a long day.
So, with just the turning of a couple catches, the team is 2-2. Or even 3-1. The only real fuckup was the Carolina game, but even that had a terrible drop on the bomb to Goodwin.
Well we definitely need a #1 WR ! Why we let Kerley walk is a mystery to me tho ! Garcon at 32 or whatever and Goodwin are not exactly going to strike fear into opposing defenses ! Not to mention our TE , or lack thereof !!!
I disagree. Garcon looks just fine to me and Goodwin is, I believe, primed for a breakout game. He’s had some bad drops, but Hoyer’s accuracy overall has been miserable. Goodwin needs to step it up, no doubt.
This is why I hate all this talk about a system fit ! Why cut Kap , Kerley and Mcdonald BEFORE you replace them with people who can actually play the game ! I mean I know Shanahan can get it done , but really …
Every game Shanahan as HC shows his limitations. He’s only as good as the people he has to work with. If they can’t execute a clever play what good is it? His QB is playing poorly and really who can catch a ball? Who can block and protect the QB enough to make simple plays? Perhaps improvement is on the way but waiting for it is a frustrating experience.
Shanahan will be just fine ! What we need is talent at WR , QB and TE !!!

This team has more fight in it than the last 3 put together We have come close but we make to many fucking mistakes. You can blame the coaches for some of that stuff but it really is on the players. We are in a total rebuild the likes of which I can’t remember seeing before. It’s almost like we are an expansion team. It’s gonna take some fucking time to gel. I think we are ahead of schedule. If the QB and WR’s can’t get it together they will be riding the bench pretty soon.
Just think if Trump owned this team. He would be on sidelines yelling “you’re fired” even before a game would begin. Half the team would be gone for kneeling alone!
Hopefully we can add a WR in rd. one or two next year ! A free agent TE might fit the bill ! QB is the big question mark IMHO !
