Game Day! Revenge of the Jed(i) . . .

Here we go with the 2017 season. A new regime,  a team that has very few holdovers from the last season, a new coaching staff, and a surprisingly quiet front office. A front office I sure hope has learned their lesson in how to run a team and stay in the background and let the coaches coach and the players play while they shut the fuck up and write the checks.

Anyhow, our 6 game opening day win streak is on the line against the Carolina Panthers. A team Colin Kaepernick beat in their house in the distant past of of the 2013 season. 23-10 on our way to a disappointing loss to Seattle.  Eons ago. Cam Newton after that loss, fell out of the playoffs before their 15-1 season and subsequent Super Bowl L loss. Last year of course they cratered again and Newton seems to be at a crossroads yet again in his career. Their defense went south, even with Luke Kuechly. Without him, they got worse.

Now? Shit, I don’t know. I’m fairly optimistic and I’m thinking we keep the streak alive. And I think we go 9-7. Expectations are small and I think if we stay relatively healthy, we could make a playoff run.

27-17 Niners.

With so many new faces especially first year rookies there were a lot of penalties. Shooting oneself in the foot makes losing inevitable. The offense needs work and Hoyer wasn’t served well with the leaky protection. Once behind the Niners became one-dimensional. The running game disappeared in the second half. Ouch!

  2. unca_chuck says:

THey did fine against the run most of the game. The pass rush is was and will be a concern.

  3. Lurker John says:

They’d better pressure Wilson or next week’s game will be even longer. He kills the Niners anyway. I can’t remember even on blitz today. They were on the field too long also. Carolina dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

  4. unca_chuck says:

We blitzed on their TD in the 1st half. Yeah, Eli Harold made the team and hasn’t shown squat in 3 years. I don;t get him being on the team.

  5. Flavor says:

Do we get to play the Giants this season? Cause I feel like we could beat them. Or at least hold them to 0 points. Anyone could, good they are awful

NYG at SF November 12th Flavor – I see that one as a possibility as well –
Depends on how we progress of course.
Throw this one into the shitter. I wasn’t expecting miracles out the gate against a good Carolina D-Line.

  6. unca_chuck says:

    I expected a TD or 2.

  7. Spitblood says:

Chuck – Do you know why Eli Harold made the team? It’s because the 49ers suck. They have no talent. This is yet another 2-4 win team.

Jesus, it was opening day and I’d venture to guess the stadium was half full. You guys are idiots for following this team. Or you have no lives…..

  8. unca_chuck says:

Well, you are fucking pathetic for posting to a blog that follows the team. Go fuck your fake fish, asshole.

  9. unca_chuck says:

U ok out there ROB?!? You are in the path of Irma aren’t you?

I didn’t realize so few fans showed up for the game. I think a lot of people are still skeptical of Jed and his moves and/or waiting until things start to take a turn for the better. I’m still baffled as to why they’d build a stadium that would be so hot for so much of the year. That’s going to make enduring a weak team even more unbearable. How does that flaw not come out during the design phase? Nobody likes baking in the sun for 4 hours.

    • 12th Man says:

The stadium was 3/4 full. The picture doesn’t tell the whole tale, most of those seats the people were either in lines buying or on the shaded concourse watching, the sun is brutal. The biggest area of missing seats was the expensive area, 30 to 50 yd, that the yuppies buy. I missed all but 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter standing in line buying after the half.
There was no part of the stadium that didn’t get direct sun at some part of the game. In my case we got it at the start of the 4th.
The crowd was very into it in the first half, not many Panther fans were there. After the 3rd qtr turnover and score the crowd was pretty quiet, which was justified.

Thanks for the info, 12th. Hope you at least had fun on opening day. I expect a much better effort against Seattle. The Seattle OL is pretty weak, so maybe an actual pass rush will happen.

      • 12th Man says:

I had a great day John thx, obviously disappointed with the result.
For what its worth I saw the same things I commented about after watching the Denver pre-season game in person, they still need at least 1 OG and maybe 2 and they need a CB.
Absolutely no pass rush was unexpected. Penalties were unbelievable but the Niners also should have received 2 clear PI calls and didn’t get them.
Goodwin dropping the ball was pivotal as was the 3rd qtr interception and Shanny Jr going for it on 4th and 4 was a mistake that we were all shaking our heads at in disbelief before they didn’t make it, way too aggressive.

  11. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, the expensive seats are on the 49ers side. Those get afternoon shade. The rest of the stadium bakes all day. They didn’t provide shade at all anywhere in the stands. ANd usually there’s no wind so it likely gets over 100 on a day like yesterday. Retarded. Fucking joke. They had a chance to do it right, and they laid a big fat fried egg.

  12. Lurker John says:

    That’s one expensive fried egg.

  13. unca_chuck says:

    Yup. New thread is up.
