Draft Day!

Hey, it’s something. This draft gives me a lot more hope that the last few as Trent (I’ve never met a knee injury I didn’t like) Baalke isn’t asleep at the switch this year.  Granted we have the ambiguously inexperienced duo but bring it on!

Just give me a chance of glory from the past!
I will take Jamal Adams SS the next hard hitting Ronnie Lott! Huge need good match with Eric Reid& Tariq Tartt ?whatever his name is..Though I hear their burning the lines to trade down.Just don’t draft the Stanford dude please!!

  2. Irish Kevin says:

At Slice 🍕 house 🏡 by AT&T watching the draft

  3. Flavor says:

that is an insane haul to get from the Bears and lose one spot.

  4. alleykat69 says:

    Yeah fucking steal BF!!
Down 1 spot pick up a 3rdand4th 67pick 111pick hell yes plus 2018 pick to boot!!

  5. Flavor says:

We have a new contender for dumbest NFL front office: The Chicago Bears. Niners must be relieved to get that monkey off their backs.

  6. alleykat69 says:

Keep trading down if you find more suckers like DA 🐻!!
Still want Adams but the extra picks work too with all the needs to fill.,
Trubisky the next big bust lol!
    Watson much better upside!

  7. Flavor says:

FUCK!!!!!!!! no Stanford guys. I said this yesterday. And I’m the biggest Stanford fan there is.

  8. alleykat69 says:

    Fuck Fuck Fuck!!!!
    All that for this chump!
    Sorry BF don’t like it!!
Adams was the Stud of the draft!!

  9. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I could have seen Adams easily. My son certainly wanted him. He’d better be all that and a pass rusher.

Getting 4 guys in a trade and the guy you wanted anyway is pretty good though.

  10. Flavor says:

I woulda taken Fournette every time over Thomas. Hyde sucks.

  11. Winder says:

Yeah, I like the trade but I don’t think Thomas is all that. But, then again I am trusting Lynch.

  12. alleykat69 says:

Why because Lynch met Solomon down at the farm and instantly formed a bromance relationship?? Adams way better fit imo

  13. Flavor says:

Wish they had just kept trading down. Bummed about this pick

  14. Lurker John says:

Gruden sure likes him and someone to rush the passer and set the edge is something the Niners desperately need. Sounds like this guy could do both. He likened him to Michael Bennett in that he can be used at multiple positions.

  15. Lurker John says:

Lynch knows defense, so I’m going to trust his judgement on this one. The one that baffles me is Trubisky. The Bears have all the defensive needs the Niners have and they just burned a #2 pick on an unknown with issues.

  16. Winder says:

So much for a defensive draft 3 out of 5 picks are offense

  17. Flavor says:

all we do is draft DL….this is getting old. I do like the trade, who wouldn’t? But I think Lynch made a rookie move here by getting overly enamored with a player from his alma mater.

    • Lurker John says:

He’s getting praised for the move by some football pundits. Let’s see what happens.

  18. alleykat69 says:

    LJ,
Didn’t we draft DE’s in oh yeah the Oregon duo of Armstead&Buckner the last 2 drafts?
Jury’s still out on those 2 though I like Buckner, just not the greatest need.

    • Lurker John says:

I think both those guys are going to be great. Armstead has battled injuries and Buckner came on strong in the second half.

None of us can say DL is not still a need after watching last year’s line cough up 100 yard rusher after 100 yard rusher. They were awful. Rotational depth on the line is a good thing in the NFL.

There’s so many needs on this team that just about any of these picks isn’t going to seem like enough.

  19. alleykat69 says:

Best overall player in the draft!
    Steal for the Jets!
Sure fire 🔥 hitter the 49ers needed, but hey we didn’t need the next Ronnie Lott I guess..

  20. Winder says:

So far I think everyone got franchise players except us. It will be awhile to tell. Love the Jets pick and the Jags/Tenn picks

  21. Nipper says:

Niners look a lot smarter than the Bears. But trades are in the eye of the beholder. I knew the Niners were not going to draft a QB that high and I’m not that football smart.

  22. Winder says:

Fucking McCaffrey went #8. I really wanted that guy. I would have been way happier if we drafted him.

  23. Lurker John says:

Man, you guys are being hard on Thomas. He’s highly rated in this draft. I just read a couple of guys are comparing him to Aaron Donald. Go Niners!

  24. Flavor says:

that dude announcing the Carolina pick called him Kristin McCaffrey. Lol.

  25. Flavor says:

A list of Stanford first and second round picks since the late 80’s or so: Tommy Vardell, Brad Muster, Kwame Harris, Willie Howard, Kailee Wong, Toby Gerhardt, Jonathan Martin, Coby Fleener, Trent Murphy….. I’ll give you Luck and DeCastro. But the history of Stanford players getting drafted in the first or second round since the late 80’s is not good, at best……

  26. Lurker John says:

Fucking Goodell is getting booed every time he comes to the podium. LOL

  27. alleykat69 says:

Thomas is still on the board if 49ers didn’t take him.Agree with Winder some teams got franchise players we didn’t..
Bengals another Bungle pick John Ross that high? Injury prone, speed at the combine jumped him up but that high? Bottom1st if best..

  28. Winder says:

7 out of the first ten are offense

  29. Flavor says:

P-Con at KNBR does some nice short bios. Here’s his take on Thomas:

  30. Flavor says:

and again, we’re talking THIRD PICK. I want something more known at the 3rd pick. If not, just keep trading down. Shit, they probably still coulda gotten Thomas at 10-12

  31. alleykat69 says:

I like that pick of Deshaun Watson to Texans..

    • Flavor says:

I would have taken him there, too. But really, I’m fine with riding out a year with Hoyer, stock up draft picks across all areas of the team (EXCEPT FUCKING DL, PLEASE GOD NO MORE DL!!!! lqtm) and then sign Cousins next year…..

      • alleykat69 says:

Rumor has it every 49ers pick from here on is DL ,DL,DL,DL,DL,DL,DL,DL … oh and the undrafted players their considering DL players only!!!

  32. unca_chuck says:

This team desperately needs a pass rush. I’m totally fine with the pick. Thomas can rush from inside and out. He’s versatile and very quick off the line.

McCaffrey is not going to withstand the pounding. He’s going to be an IR special.

Flav, previous Snodfart fails have nothing to do with Thomas.

  33. Berger says:

49ers got duped. They had 6 teams that wanted to trade up with them. They moved down only one spot and all trade partners disappeared. Why? They all wanted Trubisky. I think the 49ers thought the Bears were going to pick somebody else so they moved down one thinking they still had the QB. Didn’t happen, Bears duped them.

At least we got a player who can get to the QB from the inside or the outside. I project him as a starting DE and situational inside pass rusher. Thomas is 10 times quicker than Allen, actually about 7 times quicker. The comparison to Michael Bennet is a good one. Our pass rush got better. One gapping D-linemen contribute in year one much better than two gappers. Two gappers take a year or two to develop. This guy will contribute this year.

    • Flavor says:

duped is a strong word when you consider they fleeced the Bears. That was a huge haul they got

    • Berger says:

You reach for a franchise QB until you get one. This is the only QB in this draft who looked the part and had the numbers to back it up. You can listen to the mockers and bloggers or see how much interest there was in trading up until he went #2. Obviously the other GMs wanted him. Look at all the trade ups in this draft, all for QBs. You reach for a franchise QB until you have one. The Bears had the gonads we didn’t have. Just my opinion Flavor.

      • unca_chuck says:

Bisciuit was a high 2nd rounder when the 3-pick- insert-potato-chip-company bowl game ended in January. The hype pushed him up to the 2. Carson Wentz got the same push as well last year. Wentz is no great shakes based on his record.

You think the Rams were smart to trade their 2016 draft for Goff? Fuck that. There’s reaching then there’s dreaming.

The Niners are getting Cousins next year. He’s at least a proven commodity.

      • Berger says:

Should I listen to a blogger or see that 6 teams wanted to trade up for the Biscuit? Let’s see, Unca Chuck or 6 pro GMs? I just can’t decide. I can see why I drink and screed on these sites. When I drink my IQ lowers so I can better communicate with the blog experts.

      • Berger says:

Biscuit was a high 2nd rounder by bloggers and mockers. When they found out the huge interest by NFL GMs he moved up. They couldn’t move him up too fast, their reputations were at risk. They had to come up with their own insights with disclaimers to prove how smart they are. I watched an hour of video and saw with my own eyes how good he was. I knew he would go top 2, I told all of you that about two months ago.

      • unca_chuck says:

That and $5.00 gets you a mocha frappuchino. Doesn’t mean he’s worth a damn. I had the Niners picking Solomon 2 months ago. Big whoop.

  34. Flavor says:

Tom Coughlin thinks we did pretty good:

    • Berger says:

Coughlin obviously doesn’t think as much about Trubisky as the 6 teams talking to us about moving up. We did good on the trade if you don’t think Trubisky is a franchise player. If you think Trubisky is all that then Chicago did better. Like I said, at least we did get a very good player who can play this year. Think of Thomas as a deluxe Ronald Blair, who did pretty good last year.

      • Flavor says:

agreed that the real winner of that trade won’t be known for a few years.

      • unca_chuck says:

If Biscuit doesn’t beat out Glennon by week 10 then the guy is already questionable.

      • Lurker John says:

Bergs, how can you know what those other teams had in mind? You don’t know that they wanted to trade up to take Trubisky. He’s an unproven commodity and a huge risk for the Bears. The Niners didn’t take him because Shanahan didn’t want him. That’s good enough for me. The Niners cleaned up by getting a highly rated D-lineman, which they do need, various opinions to the contrary, and got a big haul in extra picks. What they do with those will probably do more to define their draft than Thomas.

      • Berger says:

Lurker- Because We had 6 teams wanting to trade up with us. Three in the top 10 and 3 outside the top 10. We moved up only one spot and all the interest stopped when Biscuit went #2.. Incredibly easy deduction.

      • Lurker John says:

I must’ve missed the tidbit of news that said there was 6 teams wanting to trade up with us. It wasn’t announced on ESPN that I heard. I just find it hard to believe that 6 teams wanted to bank the house on another unproven, spread offense college QB. But that’s just me. I think the Bears got screwed.

      • unca_chuck says:

Bergs is making shit up to support his theory. Maybe the Bears thought we wanted Biscuit. There’s always that. Or maybe it’s aliens.

      • Berger says:

I saw it reported on NBCBA yesterday. The article should still be there if you want to read it.

  35. Nipper says:

After Baalke lets not complain too much. After all, we don’t want to appear ingrates.

  36. unca_chuck says:

Well, we obviously didn’t. That’s all that matters. Then again, all Biscuit has to do is play better than Jay Cutler. Which isn’t too hard.

  37. unca_chuck says:

Browns are going nutzo with the trades.

    Reuben Foster is still there.

Would we go TE tomorrow? David Njoku? I’m sick and fucking tired of VMcD and the Balldroppers.

  38. unca_chuck says:

    Worried that Dal gets NJoku.

  39. alleykat69 says:

Well I’m with Coughlin on Trubisky, he’s had what 10 starts in college and his hype is off the charts?Just don’t see it myself, like Goff last year, but when your desperate for a QB like a half dozen teams are teams panic..
49ers would of been the talk of the draft nabbing those extra picks and taking Jamal Adams! Easily A+ start and the Ronnie Lott of the future,a ferocious hitter who would of instantly made the secondary that much better..

  40. unca_chuck says:

    Dammit!!! Fucking Browns.

  41. Flavor says:

look the Niners are pretty bad. Aside from the stockpiled DL and a half way decent RB we stink pretty much everywhere else. Even if Trubinsky is a franchise QB, and I think it’s perfectly as likely that he’s NOT, we are so bad everywhere else it wouldn’t surprise me if Trubinsky just ended up getting lost in the shuffle of a shitty team. Let’s see what Lynch can do with a roster overhaul and if he gets shit shored up maybe he can get Cousins next year. Or, take a shot at next year’s franchise QB. Right now I just want Lynch trying to fix the across the board shit show that is our team.

  42. Flavor says:

And finally, Trubinsky looks like kind of a douch. He reminded me today a little of Vanilla Ice. Cutler looks like a douch too. Maybe he follows in Cutler’s legacy and we dodge a huge bullet.

  43. unca_chuck says:

    I liked Njoku. Oh well.

Now? How about Obi Melifonwu. We need a safety and this guy is athletic as hell.

  44. unca_chuck says:

    That or Foster.

  45. Flavor says:

    FOster. That’ll work!

  46. Berger says:

    There’s a steal, Foster to the 49ers at 31!

  47. unca_chuck says:

Unreal he fell this far. Could be a steal of all steals.

  48. Lurker John says:

    Stud ILB!

  49. Berger says:

This allows Bowman to move to OLB in the 4-3 if Foster can start right away. Bowman should be great out there.

  50. alleykat69 says:

Yeah that’s an A grade with Foster!
Comparisons to Willis, now that would be special, just don’t retire in camp!

  51. Berger says:

My friend who played for Seattle is not too impressed with the Seattle trade! I just thanked him for Foster!

  52. Berger says:

Getting Foster makes up for how bummed I was when the NY Giants took Engram.

  53. Berger says:

Overall, we did good. At this point I have to root for Trubisky to bust so I won’t be bitching about it for the next 12 years! LOL! I’m just now getting over not drafting Wilfork.

  54. alleykat69 says:

John Lynch! Thank you for helping me get over the shitcan of a GM who we all had nightmares over and I refuse to say his useless name anymore!!
Props on your 1st draft.Amazing job of working the board, getting the extra picks, then getting back in for 2 #1 picks brilliant! Though I still would of loved Adams, I’m over it & obviously Thomas was “your guy” and Foster a super steal at 31, issues are not the talent is there…

  55. Lurker John says:

I remember Foster now, he was the guy that got into it with the hospital worker at the combine and something about a diluted urinalysis sample. That explains his dropping from the top 10 to 31. Hey, coach him up and make it work. I like this first day. Two great first round picks and a couple of extra picks to boot, including an extra third rounder.

  56. Lurker John says:

It sounds like Bow’s recovery is way ahead of schedule. Throw in Foster and your linebacking corps is dramatically better, just like that. An improved line with Thomas and the continuing development of Blair, Buckner and Armstead and things look a lot better for us in the run-happy NFC West.

What about a guy like Budda Baker for a secondary pick? I saw him play a lot at Washington and he looks pretty good. Corners? Brock is gone, so who is a possible pick there?

  57. unca_chuck says:

NJ would be more help here. But I do like Marcus Williams out of Utah at Safety. No idea if he lasts till the third round.

Shit, we got two top 5 picks in this draft. Outstanding so far.

We do have 2 of the first 3 third round picks….

  58. unca_chuck says:

    New thread is up.
